Here is an article from Hindu Times that was posted by an IF member on the SRGMP forum. It says that they are from the same family. No wonder I spotted Karunya's dad a number of times in the SRGMP audience. I thought he was just checking out the singing there but he was there for his nephew - Hemachandra.

Nine-year-old N.C. Kavya recently set to tunes songs written by noted Telugu poets.

Nine-year-old N.C.Kavya, belonging to huge musical family of Nallanchakravarthula has also turned composer, besides being a singer already. Kavya would grow to earn her place in the ranks of music composers in due time, Mallemala, a well known poet and filmmaker predicted, presiding over a musical function organized at Thyagaraya Gana Sabha on Sunday. Kavya is the disciple of Guru Vyjarsi Bala Subrahmanyam, a carnatic musician with a good record of achievements. The event began with a program of light and light classical music, in which, songs tuned by little Kavya were rendered by Deevena, V. Bindu, V.Sasikala Swamy, N.C. Karunya, V.Hemachandra, Ravali, N.C. Shruti and Divya. Most of them are singers from the same family. Noted Telugu poets wrote the songs. Kavya displayed uncommon skill in setting the songs to tunes keeping the substance of the songs in mind. The setting was with pleasing music and lilting rhythm. All the songs she set music for were brought into an audiocassette titled Chiru Swara Kavyam. Releasing the cassette, Mallemala appreciated the composer-singer and also Ajanta Arts Academy for concentrating on songs specially written in Telugu instead of going for film songs.

yes you are all correct. Karunya is a child prodigy and entire his family is a musical family. Around 15 singers are there of all age groups. Its very big family with lot of love and affection and also talent, which is a rare phenomena generally.

But the defect is low viewership of Hindi channels in South India...so inspite of their great performance, Hemachendra could not get more votes from south. And we dont know the manipulations there in SRGMP ...but anyway Hemu is getting more chances in films and that stage is a great explosure for him at this young age. Let's look at the positive side of that programme ...and congratulate Hemu for being finalist of three.
we all wish Karunya best of luck and we believe that Karnya has potentiality of becoming indian idol II.

I've always known this guy as a package of surprises. Blessed are his parents to have children like KARU and Kavya. Hemu was my fav in srgmp and Karu my fav in II. NO wonder both the guys are abundantly talented. Yes, he has all the qlts of beocming the next II. Even if he doesn't become, as Sonu said it will be II's loss and not KARU's loss. Karu will definitely grow to become a singer to reckon with. ALL THE BEST TO KARU.
