I am a big fan of Sreeram and i watch Indian idol only for him.His songs are always better. But I have an opinion that his song selection should be improved. The songs he select are not catchy.I admit that he will make any song beautiful. But I think he should select song which shows his caliber(like khwaja .,breathless etc),not easy ones.

I totally agree with you. He has stopped being the best performer of the week. Compared to others his song was ordinary. Wake up Sriram before it is too late!

Totally agree with you guys. He can't afford to take the song selection so lightly now when the competition is so much tougher than before.

I posted this in a different topic, and I'll post it again. It involves a discussion on song selections:

I think songs are wasted away on singers at the beginning of the competition. Challenging songs should be sung later on in the competition and after the singer has shown some improvement, gained some confidence, and built some stage presence. For example, Naushad sang Bol Na Halke Halke so early in the competition! He did a terrible job and the song was wasted. Same way Tia sang Aisa Lagta Hai so early in the gala (or piano round?) and wasted that beautiful composition as well!

Problem is that Idol production realizes that the singers really aren't that good enough. At this stage, they don't want to let contestants sing hard songs and do a bad job at them because that will only prove lack of talent on Idol's part. So now they give them easy songs that get the crowd going that way they can maintain an impression that the contestants are really just that good, which is of course not true.

The contestants always sing better when there are musical mentors around, I hate how they've totally stopped that. Movie promotions can wait until the elimination episode or something. Also, I think the best performances come between Top 10 and Top 5. Everything before Top 10 is ridiculous and everything after Top 5 is a joke. Between Top 5 and Top 10, the contestants put their hard work and life into their performances. After Top 5, the contestants as well as the production know that the audience already has their votes and will vote no matter what.

If this was American Idol, there should technically have been two eliminations today. And because of that, contestants should have sung their heart out today! But performances seemed half-hearted in today's gala.

Edit- No, this does not apply to Sreeram, since I do think he can still take upon more challenging songs and prove himself. But I also think that the production has to maintain a standard. If Sreeram is singing challenging songs extremely well and and the rest are singing easy songs just average, it won't make a very good impression on the audience. So perhaps they assign songs with that in mind.

Agreed. Most importantly I really love his voice, so I want to be able to catch some good songs in his voice before the show ends - its like barely 3 weeks left!

The songs are not selected by the singers. They are given the songs to sing. So there is no question of singers selcting them.Easy or tough they have to sing whatever is given to them

I think it is a big misconception that songs are selected by the singers.I think they are always assigned songs. During the middle galas, they get the toughest songs.

Secondly, if it is really the contestants who choose the songs, then they get no additional benefit of singing tough songs either from the judges or from the audience. A singer like Sreeram doesn't get due praise for choosing a song like O re piya( and Shivam who consistently challenged himself) whereas someone like Rakesh gets excessive praise for singing Aye mere hamsafar.

I think people have to be uniformed assigned tough songs or uniformly easy songs. The channel seems to have opted for the latter.

I think Woh Ajnabee is spot on as well.
