I feel that as the show progresses in II, the contestants are all given easy songs with more focus on dancing and performance. I feel it should be the other way around. It is ok if they sing easier songs in the early rounds but they must sing really challenging songs at the end.

All these disco type of episodes are fun to watch but really the songs are so easy that its hard to differentiate between the singers.

You just spoke out of my mind, as the program progresses galas should focus on themes that are critical on singing rather than distracting elements like dancing and jumping. Theme based stuff which is incomplete without proper performances should be kept on elimination day.

Thanks for responding. I think this is what differentiates II from the other talent hunt shows. While, it is hugely entertaining, it rarely attempts to challenge its singers on a consistent basis.

I personally feel that performance based genres are quite important as well......it takes a good singer to control his/her breathing as well as stay in key while performing....I am not saying that this is critical for playback singing or for a career of studio recording but it does throw in a wrench and pulls contestants out of their comfort zone.....

As a flip side to your point, there is a possibility that, if such performance categories were placed in the early half of the contest, then there could be instances of a weaker singer (but a better performer) getting through the rounds by garnering more votes largely on performance.........even with the current format, II has lost some very good singers early on and has seen some "less deserving candidates" last long into the show.....

Now we have five strong singers (all having pros and cons) and some interesting rounds left.....it should all lead to a cracking finale....am looking forward to it...😊⭐️

Agree with you to a certain extent. Still I feel the show just stops focusing on the singing aspect after a while. I find it quite annoying. If you want genre based songs, even then the songs should be of a difficult nature.

I don't think the voting and the nature of songs that have been sung are correlated. Just my guess.

I agree. I have observed the same trend - the show is more diluted and bar is bit lowered with easy songs. May be an attempt to even out the singing talent left! However, I am enjoying the entertainment part of it.

I agree with you.. :)
Ok, even if the the performances(dance, moves whatever) are being concentrated upon more, the singing should be neat.
But yes, instead of concentrating more on the singing, the focus has now shifted to dancing and performing, which is completely useless while all we care 'bout is their singing.. 😕

I agree with Dookie on the danger of having dancey themes earlier on in the season. I also agree with Sushrutaji that Indian Idol isn't challenging the contestants much - they were being challenged in the earlier episodes with songs like O Solemiya, Khalbali, Tu Bole, Is This Love, Aazma Rock etc.
I wanna see more musical mentors like Ismail Darbar, Vishal Bhardwaj, Udit Narayan. Vishal-Shekhar and Sonu nigam are busy with other shows so they probably won't come :(

I agree with the topic starter. I liked the way the galas started with calling music directors as guests and getting the contestants to sing their songs. Calling the actors and singing fun stuff should be left to the elimination episode, not the galas.
