I just saw the terms and conditions for participating in the Idian Idol 2 auditions. Here is the link where the rules are given in detail : http://www.setindia.com/shows/idol_termscondi.pdf

Just copy and paste the link in the address bar and hit go. The link doesn't work directly.

It seems that 1000 participants are chosen from each of the 4 audition cities based on phone auditions. Of which only 25 partcipants are auditioned by the 3 judges and the other 975 are probably auditoned by other people. They just show us the ones that were auditioned by the 3 judges who probably get the best and worst (for sheer audience entertainment) of the lot. If the judges listen to only 25 contestants then they should be more patient and not be so rude as they were to some of the contestants.

Anyways, just thought I would post the link for the detailed rules.

The rules also state the following clause:

vii) SET may at its sole discretion hold registration on ground venues for pre-auditioning a limited number of persons on a first cum first serve basis post closure of registrations.

Thus it is more than 25 people who audition in front of judges and the Airtel registration is just a gimmick to make ppl spend Rs 6 per min on calls.

So the judges can be rude. 😆

umm u guys i agree judges are a bit rude.. but they want an idol, and they gotta choose it, so i mean even if they ARE a bit rude to ppl who KNOW they cant sing and just come along to "try their luck", i dun think its THAT big of an issue

I do not think so as they show more then 25 on TV itself. So it may not be right.,

how can you imagine 25 randomly chosen contestants out of 1000 to provide sheer entertainment by being the worst/best of the lot. now i have a feel that the worst one's (atleast the extreme cases) might be some hired people mingling with the other contestants and then they come with make-up and a lighter or come and sing(scream) "meena...." as if they are scolding school kids. 😆 😆 😆

Here are some of the terms and conditions (the rest you can read from the Sony website):

1. have to be 16-30yrs, citizen of India, no criminal record.

2. From each city the Program producers will be choosing 1000 participants on basis of their phone auditions. Out of which 975 participants will get a chance to participate in the "Audition" in the city of their choice and 25 partcipants will jump the queue and audition directly in front of our esteemed jury. This selection will be at the sole discretion of SET.

3. The top 30 finalists form Indian idol-1 series will not be allowed.

4. SET may at its sole discretion hold registration on ground venues for 'pre-auditioning' a 'limited' number of persons on a first cum first served basis post closure of registrations.

I think that the auditioning in each city is done over a few days ( thats why you see the judges wearing different clothing sometimes) and maybe the judges see 25 participants per day and only some of them auditioning before the judges are shown on the TV program all in one episode per city. And yes maybe there is some hired help (the really bad ones) to make it funny. Otherwise, I can't beleive that a person who sings so bad can come in front of 3 esteemed judges and make a fool of themselves. If they don't know they sing bad atleast family & friends that care should stop them from auditioning - unless they look upon it as their 2 mins of fame (both national and international shame/embarassment ?) on TV.

Anyways, I guess the auditioning is over - thank goodness and only the selected good ones will be in the theaterical round 2 in Mumbai.

I guess on the phone auditions (pre-auditions) SET can tell who are good or have a decent voice (and sur) and who is really bad. They might have chosen the really bad ones just for fun. The rest of them are auditioned by other judges (wonder if Usha Uthup is one of them - she was there and she claimed to be the one who selected Qazi of Fame Gurukul.)
