Nice topic, saavie! At least it got people talking about whether Anu's comment was fair or not.

First of all, let's clarify the motive. Anu clearly felt that Swaroop is slowing down whilst his competitors are racing ahead in terms of singing. So he told Swaroop to forget about the glitz of Bombay and go back to his roots - his village where singing was the main priority. I don't think he wanted to be mean.

Secondly, Swaroop's sing WAS bad and it seems like he's stagnating. It would be better if he took criticism in the right spirit. His family should remember all the affection shown to them by Anu many times before and they should focus on improving Swaroop's performances. Making false and petty allegation at a judge achieves nothing.

Thirdly, Swaroop's family should not interfere with the show like this. He's an adult and everything that happens on the show is his business, not theirs.

Last and not the least, Anu should realise that even when he means something in the best interest of the contestants, he should say it in a way that won't inadvertently offend people. This has happened so many times over the seasons - if he thinks the contestant is distracted, then he should say so BUT he shouldn't start conjecturing upon WHY the contestant is distracted... Sometimes he thinks girls are distracting boys, other times cities distracting villagers, one day it'll be boys distracting boys! It doesn't improve the situation, so dont say it, Anuji!

Firstly, we have been seeing Anu Malik for the past 5 years now on Indian Idol. He can be rude when he is angry. But, he actually is saying something that is really in the contestant's benefit. He said something harshly so that it stays in the mind of Swaroop for long.

Indian Idol is basically a school for all these learners. And being their teachers, the judges have the right to say something bad too. Anu Malik praises generously and he criticizes generously as well.

Secondly, yes this thing could have been said in a better or polite manner. Well, that is Anu Malik's personal way of handling things, whether we like it or not.

Lastly, relatives should not have been involved here at all. Swaroop should have listened to what the judges say and then, correct himself. The more he creates a fight with the judges, the more it will hurt his reputation among the audience. He should have realized that.

I can't say more on what actually happened, as the episode has not been on-aired yet. But, I hope all turned well, in the end.

It is not about what exact words used but about what it conotates to. I partially agree to what some people are saying, his relatives should not get involved. On the other hand I guess Anu Malik should be more responsible on what he says to the contestants.

Contestant's father hits out at Anu Malek

Indian Idol 5 aspirant Swaroop Khan has a favourite among the judges from the beginning. But recently sparks flew when Anu Malek didn't approve of something.

Malek called Swaroop overconfident and high-headed. He didn't stop at that and also said that there seems to be a complete change in his attitude which is reflecting in his performance as well. Swaroop was in tears. His father, Niyaaz Khan, was very upset and called up the channel to air his concerns. He threatened the channel of a possible boycott in case he is not allowed to meet Anu Malek. Said Khan, "The comment was completely uncalled for. I don't think my son is high-headed or overconfident as indicated by Anuji. He is a humble and diligent boy. I am very disappointed to see Anuji bringing down the morale of the contestants rather than boosting their confidence." Anu Malek meanwhile has stood his ground and said, "My responsibility as a judge is to give a fair and honest opinion. I said what I felt and it is important that the contestants get a fair opinion of where they stand because with such great talent on the show, even small mistakes make all the difference."

Don't miss the high voltage drama as Niyaaz Khan comes face to face with Anu Malek on Indian Idol 5, tonight at 9 on Sony Entertainment Television.
