This time among the many other changes in the II format there is a new feature in the form of selecting the performer of the week....Its a great way to appreciate the best singer by the judges who definitely have a profound opinion as compared to public but I think this might have a negative impact on the voting of the selected singer! A singer who is applauded by the judges has all chances of loosing out on votes.....The normal human behavior is to vote for others thinking everyone would be voting for the performer of the week...and if everyone thinks that way the performer of the week gets no votes!
1. Was it a good idea to incorporate this feature?
2. Could we expect a major upset in the coming weeks where the performer of the week gets eliminated?
3. If something like 2 happens, what would this reflect about the II format where it could not save the best singer of the week from elimination?
I think this could disrupt the whole environment of the show...and could be very disturbing and discouraging for good singers!
Suggestion:
Maybe putting the performer of the week in a safe zone where he/she could not be eliminated in the next week would be a better idea....That would ensure the best singer is retained and in my opinion is a fair way of improving the ultimate choice of Indian Idol!
