It seems every time someone posts a comment against Kapil, Sourabhee, or Prashant, ten people jump at them and call them racist. Honestly, if somebody thinks that the other singers are nasal, that's their opinion. It does not make them racist. When some one compares Kapil to Prashant, that is NOT being racist; it is saying that they did not like the past winner and the possible future winner, because of the regionalism. That's it. Frankly, it's a little racist to support someone just because they don't fit the idea Indian image. You can't just vote for the underdog, just because he's an underdog.

There are people who are going all out to say they are not rasicst and abt kapil/sourabhee's looks etc. But truth is based on TALENT they are not deserving.
and grave injustice odne against better singers becaue of them...

According to dictionary.com, racism is ...

'noun
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Notice how racism is a doctrine that exaggerates differences between RACES. A race is a group or population of people that share a common descent and some hereditary patterns. Obviously, all Indians are not a different race, so first things first, the term "racism" in itself is incorrect.

Secondly, people are being unethical when they ....

1)Vote for someone based on their region of origin
2) NOT vote for someone based on their region of origin
3)Blame others for voting for someone because of their similarities of origin

and lastly,

4)When they make unreasonable comments on a public forum that strikes controversy for no known or unknown reason, simply because they were too ignorant to make a sensible comment in the first place.

Personally, I'd appreciate it if people would stop doing #4.

Thanks for the topic, except I think you just paved way for an open attack. Lets keep our fingers crossed that nothing like that occurs.

The issue here raised been far from kapil and prashant being mediocre singer. If you check the posting of someone like Laughtron and others , you will find that they believe they are not indian just because their look is different. Thats wht i called Racism. They are defaming contestant more for their look rather than singing.

Now coming back to regionalism , its everywhere. The system of voting allows regional voting. And mind it none of the state is free from regional voting. Take an example as Ismeet winning VOI. The difference is degree of regional voting. It might be less in politically front state like Maharastra and more in Politically backward state like sikkim. Its natural that when person from the region whose represantive in mainstream limelight is far and few comes into the forefront of such platform, they feel proud to move him further ahead. Take an example of Anoop desai from American Idol, we dont know if he is the best but desi community already made up their mind that they gonna vote for him So the bottom line is Regional voting cant be stopped. I dont support it but i dont think it can be stopped.

Well said, Girija Babu. I completely agree with you. Comments from laughthorn and a few others were down right racist.
To the writer of this post: Don't you think calling Sourabhee a bar singer is racist? How about calling Sourabhee and Kapil non Indians "foreigners" just because they do not look like what an average Indian looks like in the writers mind? Also how about all the curse words that were writtten about these singers just because in the opinion of some, they are not good enough? Don't you consider that racist?
Just like Kapil and Sourabhee even though I may not look Indian, I am 100% Indian and I have had to face many a racist comments, and snide remarks just based on my look. I am 100% Indian at heart and I really want Indians to do very well. Every time I see any Indian doing well in any field I am the first person to spread around the good news.
When a bollywood dance was first performed in an American show So You Think You Can Dance, I taped that show and showed it to all my friends because I was so proud of it. Similarly I was estatic to see Anoop Desai a 21 year old American man of an Indian origin audition in American Idol. I am all geared up to vote for him as much as I can and I have encouraged everyone I know to do so too.
it is hurtful to me and to many like me to be treated as though "we do not belong to India" or are not Indians just based on how we look that is why everytime I see a racist comment I feel the need to respond. If you go back to all my posts here, you will see I have never ever written negatively about any contestant because I beleive in the saying,"if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it." If you do not like a contestant that is your perogative but it is really hurtful when people start calling names like, "crap" bar singers and other curse words that I do not want to mention.
My two cents. 😊

I agree with both of you totally... And Aamir's fan your post was very good 👏

I really dont understand why people get upset that much over regional voting... In my eyes it's a normal thing.. If an Indian comes on American Idol or the British pop Idol... I am 100% sure that most indian voters WILL vote for that indian contestant, even if he isn't the best out of the lot.. If an Indian living in Britain or America can be very happy of one of his fellow-indian taking part in a singig contestant, why can't for example someone from mumbai be happy that his fellow-citizen is taking part in Indian Idol.. Or a Punjabi for seeing someone taking part from Punjab..

NOT EVERYONE JUST LISTENS TO THE VOICE.. And above all its just about your own CHOICE.. One can find Kapil and Sourabhee Nasal.. Others find them heavenly... How can you guys judge peoples choices? All those "good"singers are good in YOUR opinion... Not everyone shares that opinion.. and if someone doesn't it isn't perse biased judgement based on region, but maybe just their choice.. Maybe the singer DID touch their hearts?

And above all.. What is it with the stupid Blame game? If your favourite gets voted out.. Get upset but DO get over it... Don't start blaming all the other contestants that are still n the show..!

Sorry that just had to come out 😆
