It's been a busy weekend due to Christmas preparation and activities, so I had no free time until now. I am busy tomorrow (not sure about the evening) and Tuesday evening too, so I had to pick which episode to watch. The Ramayan/mythology episodes they do every year aren't priority viewing for me, while Rafi saab songs always are, so the decision was easy.
Hussain being back was great. He is so much better than Aditya in my opinion.
Obom and Mahima were fine. Mahima sounded off, but she tried. Obom sounds like a completely different guy when he's singing old school songs.
Muskaan and Dipan did a very nice job. Unlike Obom, who usually only excels at modern songs, both of them have voices and styles that allow them to be versatile in comparison. They sang two different genres of songs, both classics, and did a good job with both. Both have had better showings, but that's to be expected when the subject of the show is so different from what they're used to singing.
I usually don't care for forced drama stuff on Idol or SRGMP, but the stuff with Sanu da and Dipan was good. Sanu da always nails it and Dipan's answer was fun. Same with the way he got handled by the other guys. It was silly but fun.
Vaibhav and Subhadeep were fun together. They mesh well and their performance of Salamat Rahe Dostana Hamara was on point.
Utkarsh and Ananya's performance made me smile. Ananya deserves a finale spot for sure. Maybe Utkarsh too, but Ananya was a different level today. They sang a really fun song to start and then a soulful one, and did justice to both.
Shreya's reaction was so sweet 😭
I've said before that Menuka and Piyush are my top male and female contestants for the season. Their performance of one of my favorite songs was soul touching. I hope they both make it to the end.
Shreya and Piyush's duet was sublime.
Anjana and Adya's performance made me feel conflicted. it was a fun performance and I enjoyed it. Anjana finally got to show her skills without screaming and shrieking, and she dominated over Adya. But why do we get to see this kind of performance so rarely from her? Why do they always give her screaming SMP type songs? They're doing her an injustice and an injustice to viewers as well. Please let this show be the one that leads to her singing more songs where she's genuinely fun to listen to, and not grating and making me reach for the remote.
Javed Ali was a terrific guest. He's always been a favorite judge of mine whenever he's on shows, so him being a guest was a nice change. It's always nice to see him on shows. Annu Kapoor is also great and while I wish he had more words to say, in the first half but he still left an impact on the episode.
The game at the end of the show was a fun alternative to the medleys they usually do on this show for major singers.
I'm glad Adya didn't get eliminated today. It's holiday season for most of the world and ending the weekend with an elimination would be sad. Plus it gives Adya a chance to try and redeem herself, maybe enough to get her off the chopping block. She's been mostly good lately, and this second chance could be big for her.
Happy holidays guys. The Rafi episode was a good part of the weekend. Let's hope next week's New Year's episodes are of a similar quality.
