And that's exactly my problem with her characterization. Until when is she going to project her childhood traumas? Because there are so many tragedies all around us. We can't help all of them at the cost of our own happiness. People may call this mahanta but aisi baatein kitaabon main achi lgti hain not in real life. She sees any person and her childhood traumas trigger and she makes anyone related to her suffer. Instead of getting therapy, she'll keep on projecting like this. It's not about guriya only. It's imlie herself.
Putting yourself first is not selfishness, it's self preservation. It's necessary. And if you are the way you are then sorry you are not cut out to be a partner or lover for anyone. Better be alone and do samaj sewa.
let me post from a different angle altogether:
I feel the problem is that writers have no clear understanding of who their target audience is -- the TRP aunties or the savvy keyboard warriers. if TRP is driven by the aunties, then they need to have imlie change and admit she is wrong from time to time. imlie needs to get seriously wacked and questioned.
I can imagine my aunt or my mom's reaction if they were watching. it would be brual and something along the lines of "what an idiot!!! she already had one divorce and instead of focusing on her own marriage, she is running behind her ex's child? 😡, change the channel!"
they are not going to be looking at psychology or motivations and excusing imlie's behaviour. they will expect a character to change, to reflect, to be smart.
for myself, I see psychology to understand a character but I don't see it as an excuse to not change and keep making the same mistakes in loop. so just as in life, even fictional characters need to grow up and change. everyone is accountable for their idiocy 🤷
