Just wanted to point this out of if someone still is interested :
Today's fight scene was set in a late winter afternoon— assuming the assignment was still set in North India. The way the lowering sun colours the horizon from an angle— a slight peach tint meeting a blue sky. They continue with the rainbow pallete as Pearl from Twitter had mentioned yesterday. The buildings are highlighted with an aquamarine blue, blending in with sky and contrasting the hot pink of Imlie's Anarkali
Imlie exits the brothel; barring the break of continuity with her maangtika, her pallu and hair get unfettered first, then her pink bangles hit the concrete floor, then her nakelace. Bound hair represents tying down of women to their male relatives in Dharmik literature. It's a bond. That's why Buddhist and Jain nuns had to shave their heads
Anyhow, this unfettered, unadorned Imlie, along with Aryan, faces the Madame. The Madame is dressed in a cloyingly heavy red brocade. She's decked from head to toe in old world luxuries— in stark contrast to her girls who are beautiful but not luxurious— a clear demarcation of hierarchies. She's the courtesan de luxe— she, with her army of male goons, will always be more powerful than them.
The shot is set in such a way that you can see the two teams at once. One led by group of women with a single man as the Sutradhar. The other, a gaudy woman, aided by a group of men in oppressing women. Aryan stands apart from all the men in the setting in his black-and-khakhi attire
Aryan takes the centre stage— he's the sutradhar of course— but he is neither the hero not the leader here. He sustains Imlie's explosive power, helping her move and channel. They are the perfect team.
The action still was ridiculous and yet fun.
Please play Janiya at my funeral.
