Finite Story Culture

I believe that the Indian television industry needs to welcome finite series culture. I feel that is the solution to getting well written shows that get praise, critical acclaim, and more work all the way around. This way actors get the due they deserve. Every character can go through a well rounded arc, rather than bizarre personality shifts. I would much prefer a story being completed in 50 episodes, than extending to 1000 episodes with stupid tracks. Television actors are looked down upon because they agree to playing over the top unrealistic characters in crazy dramatic situations.

As much as I love Fahmaan, Gashmeer has put in the foundational work for this show alongside Sumbul. He shouldn’t be subjected to a character who’s development is stagnant. With a well written finite series, he can work on new opportunities without suffering creatively on a running character.

There is a reason why many Pakistani serials and their actors are loved so much.

Rubber ko itna khichoge, usse toh phatna hi hai.

Also, I’ve followed Gashmeer’s work since his debut movie Muskurake Dekh Zara. What talented actor this guy is.

Completely agree with you.

having a finite series will help in actors play multiple characters in their career rather than becoming what they werent in intial days of very same show.

then as viewers we will hv a variety of shows, stories, characters to watch rather than same ghisa pita over the top drama (like rubber)..

ill add to that.. chewing gum is tasty till a point of time.. more you chew beyond its limit it becomes bitter... and leave a bitter taste once you spit. its better to have shows let their characters leave with the beautiful image they created in viewers heart and mind rather than spoiling them for life...

alongwith pakistani shows.. korean shows are another fab example of perfect Story telling with finite episodes.. they know what to show in how much episodes and what all plot point to be covered for that.. deal done show loved by masses,

Totally agree with you. The beautiful feels we got from the first 200 episodes were completely degraded with the introduction of illogical tracks to keep the story going for longevity. Phenomenal talents like gm and st have not been utilized to their fullest potential with a tight and reasonably logical story line. All that remains now is persistent negativity in the name of maintaining the drama quotient for viewership and ultimately to milk trp. Such a sad state of affairs.

Yes, I agree. In the current culture, the makers keep on continuing the show until it yields TRP. To boast the viewership, they adopt unrealistic plots and characterization. I think a year is more than enough to show everything in a story without compromising the quality. After that it's difficult to keep the show going.

Infact, with finite storyline they can maintain the show on a positive note. That will make the viewers more happy and satisfied with the content.

I think finite stories are definitely one way to go. Allows the makers to tell the story they want without having to drag things out. Yes. But I also think that part of it is this idea that just because an actor was part of the original cast, part of the original pairing pitched in the show, etc. that that’s how it should be.

And I’m not specifically speaking to this show but others I have seen as well - this is common across ITV. I can’t even count how many shows I’ve seen that started with such a promising premise but now are nowhere close to the show they started as, leaps, illogical twists and turns, etc. There’s also a formula for the love stories, that if anyone tries to break there’s huge resistance. This is what doesn’t help, these illogical twists and turns are usually to keep characters/pairings that are no longer relevant still relevant. There are your stock characters, certain patterns, and the love story formula. It’s fair to get attached to a show, to characters, but sometimes as an audience we need to be okay letting them go because they’ve outgrown the story.

Introducing the idea of a proper ensemble would also help these stories. In my opinion a long term story that hinges solely on a love story between two people can rarely ever be done well, at least I haven’t seen it done well. Exploring other genres would also be another route. Why does a love story need to be central to all shows? What if it was a Buddy comedy instead?

Essentially what I’m saying is that ITV just needs to diversify. That includes finite series, other genres, different stories, ensemble casts, etc. And audiences need to be more open to that because at the end of the day TRPs rule. If makers want a show to last they know the formula that works and from my experience anyone trying to steer away from that formula isn’t on air for too long.

You have to hand it to him. For as handsome and talented as he is, it takes work to make such sadoo sickly faces ke the entire fandom gets fed up of you. Sacchi , I am a GM fan. I have seen a few of his Marathi movies too. He has amazing presence.

Core problem of itv is that its far away from reality. The makers create this fantasy world , were science , and logic ,are banned. Even the laws of the land are thrown in dustbin.

Some things are mandatory in Indian shows.

1. Love triangle, preferably between one man and two sisters.(current hit concept)

2. The show will start by saying female lead is progressive, but only uptill 50th episode, then she will be married off, that too preferably forcrefull marriage.never allow leads to fall in love , or get married willingly. Marriage should be under coercion and hate.

4.The male should be so hot and rich , and extra toxic.while female lead should be mahan with capital M.

5.passionate love story , that must include physical assualt , emotional assault of female lead by male lead.

6. Husbands family will be joint family all with degree in make up . Even when your family is breaking apart, before morning arti they should be present fully decked up. Couple should never live separately.

7. A hall in the home where everything happens.

8.No college scenes , even if one of the lead is studying for Mbbs.

9.The evil should always wins, when the show is about to get over, give namesake justice to leads.

10. Unlogical generation leaps.( fully expecting malini and imiles children story😆😆).

Forget to mention, leads should never ever communicate logically. 😇
