Error, mistake, blunder, slip, lapse mean a departure from what is true, right, or proper.

1. error suggests the existence of a standard or guide and a straying from the right course through failure to make effective use of this.

2. An incorrect measurement or observation.

3. This can be a human error, systemic error or random error.

4. For example, a weighing scale that is miscalibrated such that all the measurements in an experiment are wrong.
