Hot marriages which turned cold

But there were no affairs as far as Nicole and Tom were concerned. They had a successful career, two adopted children and a marriage that seemed perfect. Yet one find day the world wakes up to the news that the couple had decided to call it quits. Now of course both are in different relationships, with Nicole having tied the knot with fianc Keith Urban and Tom and Katie, proud parents of a baby girl, on their way to the alter. How long the heat will remain in these relationships is something we have to wait and see.

But when Sir Paul McCartney decided to tie the knot for a second time with Heather Miller, he had probably never thought that it would ever grow cold. Like his first marriage to Linda Eastman which lasted till she succumbed to breast cancer, Paul McCartney had probably hoped for a lifelong commitment. But after four years of marriage and one child, the couple has filed for a divorce. It is rumoured that Paul who was too much in love with Heather had refused to give heed to suggestions of a pre-nuptial agreement, will now end up paying $50 million in divorce settlements.

Meanwhile, the break-up between Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, the most adored couples of Hollywood, upset many. Their marriage was what fairytales are made off. Two hot, gorgeous and successful individuals had come together to spend a lifetime together. And after seven years of togetherness no one doubted otherwise. Yet an affair put an end to what seemed a perfect marriage. While Jennifer seems to be still nursing her wound, Brad has moved on and fathered a child with his new love Angelina Jolie.

Angelina herself had a wild, crazy marriage with her ex Billy Bob Thornton. With their complementary tattoos, vials of blood and all the public display of affection one never thought the fire would ever go out of their relationship. In fact when the duo adopted a child together, it seemed that the relationship was here to stay. But the love fizzled out and after two years of intense relationship and the two decided to go their separate ways.

Sometimes having known your partner for long before marriage also does not help. Pop stars Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey met each other in 1999. Their courtship lasted for nearly four years, with a short break in the middle, when they felt things were not working out for them. But having re-ignited their love, the couple went around for four years during which it is said that Nick supported Jessica's decision to remain a virgin, before tying the knot. Post marriage, the couple did a reality show for MTV which covered their married life. But for all the public display of a happily married life, three years later the duo filed for a divorce, with rumours that Nick was asking for spousal support which of course has been denied by him.

While it took some of the couples nearly seven to eleven years to realise that they were not really made for each other, Renee Zellweger took just four months to discover that. Minus the usual fanfare that accompanies celebrity weddings, Renee and Kenny Chesney got married in a quiet wedding. Four months after declarations of undying love for each other, the couple realised that there was no love to hold them and filed for annulment.

They made a cute pair together - Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. After five years of marriage and two children, the two filed for divorce in 2004. While Uma cited Ethan's alleged affair with a Canadian model Jennifer Perzow as the reason behind the divorce, he in turn said that it was because Uma gave her career as an actress more importance than their relationship.

Even as there have been many break-ups, the last few months have seen a couple of new celebrity relationships forming which are as hot as they can get. Whether they too will meet a chilling end like their predecessors, only time will tell. Meanwhile, we wish them all the best
