LOS ANGELES - Saw III, the latest installment in the horror franchise, begins shooting in Toronto Monday, ahead of a planned release at Halloween.
Tobin Bell will reprise his role as the sickly villain Jigsaw, while Shawnee Smith and Dina Meyer are back as Amanda and Kerry, respectively. New to the cast are Bahar Soomekh (Crash) and Angus MacFadyen (Braveheart). Darren Lynn Bousman will direct the Lionsgate release from a screenplay by Leigh Whannell, who will also executive produce alongside fellow franchise creator James Wan.
"Darren, Leigh and James are cooking up a twisted gem that promises to be the most nightmarish Saw yet," said Peter Block, Lionsgate president of acquisitions and co-productions.
The first Saw, released at Halloween 2004, earned $55.2 million domestically, while the sequel opened a year later and ended up with $87 million.
