"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" is in Moscow

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" is released for sale in Moscow on July, 21, 3 a m. This is the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter series of novels by J.K.Rowling. On 21 July 2007, all editions but the American were released at a minute past midnight (00:01) BST, i.e.3 a.m. Moscow time; the American edition was released at a minute past midnight (00:01), local time. It was released globally in 93 countries. Moscow bookshops gave their readers a great opportunity to be the first buyers of their favorite book. That's why they worked 24 hours on Friday and Saturday and started to sell the English version at 3 a.m. sharp. The queue made of Harry Potter's fans started forming already at 1 a.m. In anticipation the readers discussed the last film and the possible plot of the novel. The shop-assistants assured everybody that there were enough books for all. At the appointed hour the Harry Potters books disappeared from the shelves. The lucky readers were happy to held dark green books, published by the Bloomsbury publishing house. This edition is for adults with a pendant on the cover and with a photo of the author. The most devoted readers started reading just in the shop on the floor or in the street. Neither late hour nor 700 page edition in English prevented Harry Potter fans from buying the book. What's important for them is to know as soon as possible who will stay alive and who will die in the final struggle between Harry Potter and his allies, and the ever-more-powerful and influential Voldemort and his allies, the Death Eaters. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" is expected to be the best-ever-seller. It's the fist book to be ordered in the amount of sixty thousand copies for the Russian market. The English version is likely to be sold in nearly all the Russian bookshops.

Such a high demand on the English version only proves that more and more Russians can now read original English literature. Or may be the book about Harry Potter itself has grown up a new generation, being both a good teacher and perfect motivation.

As for the Russian version, usually it took about a year to translate a book. The seventh book is expected to be translated in four months, and Russian readers can enjoy it already in November. Sergei Iljin , Maya Lahuti who translated Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will do the translation this time as well. The first edition of the Russian version will make up 1 800 000 copies.

Illustrator says goodbye to Harry Potter series

July 23, 2007

St. Paul, Minn. — The final installment of the J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series continues to break publishing records.

In the first 24 hours, 8.3 million copies were sold in the U.S. alone. That's almost 350,000 books an hour, easily making it the fastest-selling book ever.

And it also means that artwork by a Minnesota native is, suddenly, in millions of American homes.

The one that started it all

Mary GrandPre grew up in Bloomington and was living in St. Paul when she began illustrating the U.S. version of Harry Potter books. As such, she's had advanced knowledge about the books, including how the series finally ends.

MPR's Tom Crann spoke with Mary GrandPre about her experience working on the Potter books, especially now that it's over.

Missing Harry Potter Pages Stall Readers

(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA Some readers of the final installment in the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" were stalled from finishing the book due to printing errors.

One Moorestown woman's book was missing over thirty pages, preventing her from discovering the much anticipated ending.

Melissa Antinoff said she "freaked out" when reading the final chapters and noticed the pages jumped from 706 to 739.

"It was right at the climax, my husband has been waiting for me to finish this and I get there and I can't finish this book", Antinoff said.

A Borders bookstore in Marleton had some defective books with bad binding and ripped covers.

Other books in Canada had pages printed sideways, in Australia and New Zealand, some books were missing two chapters.

Sara Sinek, a representative from Scholastic, the American publisher for the final Harry Potter book, said printing such a large number of books is never easy.

"It's not surprising at all that some would have printing errors, what is surprising is that so far we have learned of only 21 books with printing errors", Sinek said.

Scholastic and Borders will replace any book with an error.

Flood cannot stop Potter delivery
JK Rowling launching the final Harry Potter book at the Natural History Museum
The sorting office was full of pre-ordered Harry Potter books
Villagers resigned to a weekend of no Harry Potter due to rising flood waters were cheered to receive a surprise from their local postman. Richard Yates, of Harvington near Evesham, Worcestershire, was unable to do his normal round because of floods. He loaded up his car with pre-ordered copies of the new Harry Potter book which were in the sorting office and delivered them around the village. A neighbour said it was a wonderful gesture in the midst of flood misery. 'A big grin' Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, JK Rowling's latest and final novel in the series, went on sale on Saturday. Chris Haynes, whose copy was delivered by Mr Yates, said he had been resigned to not receiving his pre-ordered book.
It was wonderful in the midst of all this horror and misery
Chris Haynes, Harry Potter fan
"We had seen the flood water and all the post vans outside the main post office earlier in the day and were resigned to not getting the copy. "But, about an hour later, a 4x4 came up the drive and out got this chap with a big grin on his face and explained what he was doing." He estimated Mr Yates had up to 20 copies in his car which he was taking to houses nearby. "It was wonderful in the midst of all this horror and misery," he said. Evesham was the scene of dramatic rescues over the weekend as it became cut off by flood water.

Mr Haynes had spent the previous evening helping to salvage the village hall and toys and books from a play group from the floods.

"It was a lovely gesture," he said.
