Teacher Reminisces over J. K. Rowling as a Student

In an article published in the Pioneer Press newspaper, Minnesota community college professor Dale Neuschwander speaks of the 1978-79 school year where he was a student teacher at Wyedean, "a rural, working-class, public secondary school near the border of England and Wales," and the future Harry Potter author, J. K. Rowling, studied in his Creative Writing class.

Mr. Neuschwander speaks glowingly of the 13 year old Jo Rowling, remembering:

"She got straight A's and A-pluses in creative writing," he said. "We were reading Golding's 'Lord of the Flies,' and the students had done some writing about it. I wish I had kept her essay about what she would have done on that deserted island and how she would have survived."

Neuschwander still remembers Rowling's writing style.

"I do recall an extensive vocabulary for one so young," he said. "I was also amused by her witty use of informal language in essays (slang, regionalisms, etc.). She has a good sense of humor."

The article recounts more on the studious Jo, and once her publication Harry Potter series, her correspondence with her former professor, a letter that still hangs on his wall.

Helena Bonham Carter Talks Bellatrix on Jonathan Ross Program

Helena Bonham Carter appeared on the Friday Night with Jonathan Ross program which aired tonight in the U.K. TLC reader Sarah writes that the actress spoke briefly about her role as the Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix saying something along the lines that despite filming for a total of twelve weesk, she only had 5 lines, 3 of which were cut (her words). She also apparently described a bit about what it was like for the actors to wait before filming. If anyone has video of this please send it in. The program will be rebroadcast again on BBC One tomorrow night at 1:25 am.

UPDATE: TLC reader Jade mailed to say during the interview they also showed a trailer which was a "shorter version than the two new ones, but with some of the same footage,centaurs etc " It is possible this is the new UK trailer we told you about earlier as well.

EA Games Set Report: A New Visit with the Makers of Harry Potter Video Games

Last August, the Leaky Cauldron made a visit to the Electronic Arts company in England to learn about the new Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenixvideo games. Recently a second opportunity was made available tovarious fan sites, and Donna Hosie made a return trip to visit with the people at Electronic Arts about their new game and all the many new things in store for fans. Along with this cool poster that you will see on the cover of the boxes for the game, and new screen images including these of Dumbledore, Snape, the Trio and McGonagall, Dumbledore in the Ministry, and the Trio, we have a new report from Donna which you can read via this link.

In the first installment of a two-part report, we learn details such as fans will finally hear the lovely Hedwig's Theme music in the game, that over 85 locations in Hogwarts have been created from the movie blueprints to be used in this game, and "there are 60 missions for the gamers to complete (one example is finding murtlap essence for Harry's hand), and much more.
