Ch-ch-changes on the OotP Posters

The new OotP posters have a lot of fans confused.

In one, we see our sextet plus Cho, looking very about-to-march-to-battle, as they should. But in another, Hermione looks a bit more, shall we say, curvaceous than usual. And while we're loath to bring any further attention to this portion of her body, there is just one way to show you what we mean (thanks to peachespig). Watch for a few seconds.

And in THIS poster, there have been so many airbrush changes that we hardly recognize it. We simply don't know who that redhead at the back is. Where is our real Ginny, and who has replaced her?

This is a "spiel." You are free to skip it.

You know, airbrushing and photo manipulation can be good. Take out pimples, smooth skin, make fab lighting and killer shadows. Use all the tools possible to make the series looks just as dramatic, wonderful, exciting and terrifying as it already is. Do all those edits you need to do, movie people, to get the butts in the seats.

We only take objection when it becomes clear that someone thinks getting those butts in the seats equals cheapening some of our beloved characters by padding their bosoms/cheekbones and cinching their waists.

Yes, it's very normal (if still sorta gross) for movie posters to feature actresses whose bodies have been emphasized for the print. But these aren't any actresses. These are a pair of beautiful, talented girls who are playing roles that have become symbols of beauty existing in places that aren't always visible. What kind of message do we send the little girls who look up to Hermione and Ginny as their ideals, when we publicize a photo that clearly says they're more beautiful with a larger chest, more protruding cheekbones and a smaller waist?

WB once reprinted a slew of posters just because of a misplaced comma. This is more important than any piece of punctuation. This is a bigger part of remaining true to the spirit of the series than any plot change or script cut could ever hope to be. With little girls everywhere fighting to find their own beauty, is there any need to take their most beloved literary characters and give them the Barbie treatment?

We know what you'll say: It's nothing to get our skirt in pleats over. Right? This happens all the time. Well - not to Harry Flippin' Potter, it doesn't. Or shouldn't.

It's not like these actors/actresses need this work, guys. These actors/actresses are beautiful, handsome people without this work done to them. Not the cast of The O.C.. And that's what we love most about them. Maybe we could respect them just as much?

OotP to Have "Over 100 Centaurs"

Over the years at TLC we've told you about several of the companies who create the special effects seen in the Harry Potter films. One such company, Framestore CFC is sending out their latest email with news on work they are doing for the upcoming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix film. The company states:

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
(UK & US release July 13th 2007)

Another year, another magical adventure. Framestore CFC has been contributing fantastic VFX and creatures to the Potter films from the outset, and the boy wizard's latest adventure – his 5th – is no exception. We have been hard at work on some of the film's most demanding beings, including over 100 centaurs, a house-elf named Kreechur [sic], the return of Fawkes the Phoenix and assorted magical effects. In addition, we are creating the films title sequence for the first time.

You can see some of their work in the most recent trailer for OotP which is now on the WB Order of the Phoenix website (you can also see the earlier teaser trailer as well).

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" the Largest Pre-Ordered Book in History

The USA Today has a new article as part of their Summer 2007 books preview, discussing what they say is the book of the summer, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. According to the article, at book retailers Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble and Borders, the last book in the Harry Potter series is "the largest pre-ordered book in history."

"The weekend the book goes on sale, it will gross more than any Hollywood movie, and I think that's great news," says Steve Riggio, Barnes & Noble CEO. "Harry Potter brings forth the idea that reading a book is perhaps the greatest form of entertainment of all."

The article also briefly mentions that many bookstores are planning elaborate release parties for the midnight release of Deathly Hallows on July 21. If you are looking to attend such a party, be sure to check out PotterParties.com for all your wizarding party needs.

SciFi.com: David Yates Directing HBP

Sci-Fi Wire reports that David Yates is confirmed to direct Half-Blood Prince:

As long-rumored, the director, whose first work on Potter has yet to be unveiled to the public, will be the second Potter director to direct back-to-back films. He told Sci-Fi Wire that:
"I am doing Half-Blood Prince, and I'm doing it because I love the world, I love the characters," the BAFTA-winning director said in an interview. "I think I have more business with this world and these characters."

PS: Of course, as always, WB has yet to officially confirm. Yadda yadda, you know the drill.

Hey thanx a lot for the nes1 The OotP posters of the Trio and their respectives foes are awesome!

Hermione vs. Umbridge The only way is rebellion (I love this line! 😳

Ron vs. Lucius No one can protect you

Harry vs. Voldemort Only one can survive

    Nice posters!

And I liked the article at the top...and I totally agree with whoever has written it! They shouldn't go about morphing and editing Hermione and Ginny's features just to make them more attractive!

And yes, I'm so glad and happy that FINALLY they're giving poor Ron EQUAL weightage in the publicity of the film and in the posters and all! I hope he's not sidelined in the film (as is done in every other Potter film till now) or made into a comic side kick!

Hope the movie doesen't disappoint me with regards to this!
