Snape, DD had trusted... and knew that Voldy believed to be on his own side ... and by dying at hands of Snape, or more requesting SNape , was to fool Voldy that Snape had done and in turn ... beat Voldy at his own game... that DD didnt die in the hands of Voldy or his evil magic, but one he trusted and supported the good... It was the curse Avada Kedavra that Snape , his trusted man, cast at his own request that killed him, and not the poision that Voldy had used to protect the horcrux... which is a deafeat in itself for Voldy... and compunded by the fact that the Horcrux, a clue to the rest of the horcruxes was also retrieved....

Sareeta ji, i really really like what you had wrote there... Let me comment on it later on, will give in my thoughts first...

I couldn't see the topic name but I'm assuming the DOTW is "Did DD deserve to die?", right?

I don't think that it's about him 'deserving' to die or not..... he did not deserve to die, yes, but he had to... as much as it pains for me to say it.... I was always quite adamant about his death, and i always said why did he have to die and so forth and I felt terrible after he died.. but, it had to happen, didn't it? If Dumbledore is still in DH, what will Harry do? Like members before me have said, DD has been a guiding light for Harry, has guided him to go everywhere, and up until OoTP/HBP we never thought anything will happen to Dumbledore, because of course, he is the only one who Voldy feared and he's always stood by Harry's side as his protector and guider so we never actually thought anything would happen to him...

But yes, like others have said, we see in HBP how much DD has actually aged... he is unable to do many more things now... he leaves the school more often and we see so many times how he is so tired, how he is really becoming just an adviser to Harry.. and we even learn so, so much more about Voldy in the book, which indicates that DD is trying to give Harry as much information as he can before anything happens.... so yes, it probably had to happen... now, in DH, i hope there is someway for Harry to actually try and communicate with DD. Is that possible? I had said before that hopefully through the portraits in the Headmaster's office (that is, if Harry goes back to Hogwarts, which i hope and am sure he will) he may get to converse with DD periodically...

Now, onto Sareeta ji's comment above... it's really put very well, and so it Maurauder's post..!! (I'm so sorry, i dunno your name, i think i did before but i must have forgot cholly!!)

Like you have said, DD died at his own request.... we could say that Dumbledore said "Severus... please..." either to tell him to not kill him, or to allow him to do so... either way, DD was not killed by Voldy, which i think would have been a much greater defeat for DD and Harry too, because the guilt then would be much greater...

and that's my two cents😉 if i have more will definitely add!

Lovely topic griffy ji!!😃

well, i wud definitely not call it pathetic..... snape's killing him was not pathetic.... i think it was pre-planned, by dd himself.... dd wud never beg someone to not kill him, remember, he said 'please' to snape before he killed him, dumbledore has said himself on various accounts, though indirectly, that he is not afraid of death, then y wud he beg snape not to kill him... i think he was begging snape to kill him....

dumbledore deserved to die .

the point is, JKR is doing all she can to make harry alone for the final batter with voldemort , by taking away all those who can stand before him .... that's all the part of literature to let the hero, fight a hero's fight.

Lolz...Dumbledore is dead....if Joanne Kathleen Rowling confirmed it then...who are we to bring him back from the dead??? 😆 😆 😆

And, remember Prisoner of Azkaban book?
When the Trio were in the Shrieking Shack and all 3 used the Disarming Spell on Snape...he was thrown back and slammed into the door???

Well...the disarming spell is only to disarm the opponent. So how come Snape was slammed back into the door???

Something similar happened with DD when Snape used the AK on him!

...the force and power with which you use the spell...counts! The more power....the more effect...and if there are some emotions riding along with it...it makes the spell/curse all the more powerful (Didn't Moody AKA Barty Crouch Jr. in disguise give this same speech during his lecture on the Unforgivable Curses to Harry's class?)

In the Trio's case...the fact that all three of them used the Expelliarmus with so much force...made Snape slam back into the door

And in Snape's case...the hatred and all the pent up emotions he put in the curse...made Dumbledore slam back and go over the parapet and down on the ground.

Very nicely written by xMarauderx..I was more surprised than shocked reading about the death and I had to re-read it to confirm what is written is correct & then I was thinking about why & what can be next for 2-3days...but still I feel that there is something more to this as Harry without DD is like unthinkable...... Also i felt that JKR want to keep lot of open threads so that if she wants to write beyond Book7 which she claim is last one..she can still continue...

After DD who was the strongest personality in this entire book for vol1 whole yeast of things have changed and I am desperatly looking forward to next release to see how JKR make HP stronger & wiser and I have a feeling that we won't be seeing end of Voldemort.......if she really manage to kill him then she will make HP Auror to continue some way or other.

Hi all,

lovely DOTW btw.... I wanted to post here be4 but couldn't due to certain personal reasons.... (don't even ask!!!!)

The point I want to make here is very simple.... in fact it is so simple that its enormity is lost out on almost all the members here at the HP forum. The fact is simple.. JKR had to kill off Dumby for fear of interference from him in JKR's target.

Don't take me wrong. JKR herself has said time and again, that if ever she wanted to explain something to the general public but didn't want to do so personally she did it through DD or through Hermione. You must think that if she needed him, then why kill him off... simple for the story line.

As I have said before on this forum to understand this you need to understand and think from a writer's point of view......

no hero's character can take the central position and assume full responsibilities for his actions unless and until his mentor(s) are there to cover for him..... that is the prime reason JKR killed Sirius in OotP and DD in HBP. these two characters had an immense influence on Harry, and unless and untill they were around Harry always had someone who would come and at any cost take away all his worries......

which in a way is not good for a hero. unless n until he's all alone in a war around him. the heroism cannot come out in all its glory.... which is detrimental to any story line....

this is sumthing that JKR could not allow... which is why she could not allow this to continue for too long.

hence straight from the outset in book 7 she shows DD as growing weaker and weaker.... in a way hinting at his fast approaching death.

I know I may be sounding a bit too clinical about this... but beleive me (the oldies will vouch for this too) I am a

very big dumby fan.

I hate to discuss about his death like this.... but I know it was necessary as well as important.

hope you don't hate me for this....

regards,

tejas
