Never seen in action , though i was mentioned,

My name it-self will have you cautioned.

Grotesque & funny as it may seem ,

I came in handy when the predicament was dicey.

Size is no measure of power ,

I served as a testimony over & over .

Magical , yes I am , though offensive,

And yet perceived to be impressive.

Amortentia was the strongest Love potion. I think these two potions were different. Just an opinion.

Yeah maybe, cuz one kind of love potion also used by Voldemort's mother, Merope Gaunt.

None of the answers are correct guys ..

But I see you have already started discussing potions/spells etc .. so you are going in the right direction in the sense you already figured out that it's not a being/creature <----- now there's a hint .. any more hints & I might just give away the answer .. 😆

Not correct .. and you already know why .. not only was it mentioned , we also saw it in action .. so , incorrect ..answer is something which was just mentioned , we never actually saw it happen , it happened behind the scenes .. books are from Harry Potter's point of view , so we as readers also got only a narration of what happened .. just like Harry , we too missed actually seeing it in action ..

Nevertheless , you are getting closer .. levicorpus may not seem 'gross' ( though it certainly shatters the dignity of the one on the receiving end of it , especially if done in public .. I do feel for Snape here ) but it is funny at times ( depends on your idea of fun 😆 ).. so yes you are kinda close to the answer ..

^^ Some more clues right there .. I think the riddle is already cracked now .. 😆
