A visit to the hospital
Lily and Ophelia entered their dormitory, exhausted but happy with their work. It had taken them the whole night to do it and it had not been easy; sneaking out from the castle, without anyone noticing them. Yet the results had been satisfying. Finally they had been able to complete part two of their long time secret project.
"Lils, I'm damn tired man! I don't want to go and sit in any classes today," Ophelia murmured sleepily.
"Same here Ophie. But I'll have to go at least. Dumbledore has called me and that prat for a meeting in his office; I will have to go there. And if I make an appearance in the Headmaster's office today, then obviously, I will have to attend the classes too, can't even pretend to be sick!" Lily said. It was then that both of them became aware that two beds were empty.
"Looks like our saint Alice and Caty were up to something last night as well," Ophelia grinned at Lily.
"Wonder what they were up to. Can't have been anything illegal, our darling saint is against that," Lily remarked, trying not to sleep. It was then that they noticed the last bed.
"Let's wake her up!" Ophelia said and before Lily could stop her, went bounding towards Jane's bed. Then she cried out in shock, "Hey Lils come on fast! There's something wrong with Jane!" Lily frowned and sped towards the end of the dormitory. She gaped at Jane's sleeping figure and her face, which was full of numerous scratches.
"What's happened to her?"
"And, she's got a temperature! God! We need to take her to Pomfrey. Now what was Jane doing last night? It seems everyone in our dormitory was up to something last night!" Ophelia gabbled on.
"Shut up Ophie and help me take her to the Hospital Wing," Lily said, trying to muster up the energy to cast a strong enough spell on her. Together they conjured up a flimsy stretcher and between the two of them, managed to lift Jane into it. Then they proceeded down into the common room, which was thankfully empty at that hour.
They hauled her through the portrait, the Fat Lady remarking behind them, "I knew there was something wrong with her when she came in half an hour before! What's wrong with Gryffindor today?!" They ignored her and continued their walk through the castle, carefully charming the stretcher between them. They were just about to turn towards the corridor, which would take them to the hospital wing, when a sharp, bright light nearly blinded them. They blinked in the light, trying to adjust to the sudden luminescence, when they heard the soft yet clear voice of Professor Stallys, "Lily? Ophelia? What're you doing at this hour out here in the castle?"
Lily and Ophelia exchanged a looked before Lily said, "Er…Professor…um…Jane is hurt and she's got a fever. So we're taking her to the hospital wing. There was silence, as the professor seemed to assess the situation.
"Come on then with me, both of you," Professor Stallys said and she cast a strong levitating charm on the stretcher and she took it to the hospital wing, Lily and Ophelia trailing behind her, uncertainly. As they reached the hospital wing, Professor Stallys opened the door, charmed the stretcher inside and turned back to give them a look, a silent command to stay where they were. They heard her conversing in soft tones with Madam Pomfrey and the two women inside took quite a while apparently discussing Jane.
Finally, Professor Stallys came out and beckoned them in. Madam Pomfrey bustled here and there, taking various bottles of healing potions and applying them on Jane. Jane looked decidedly worse now that they could see her clearly, even though Madam Pomfrey was slowly but surely healing her.
"Lily, Ophelia, have you any idea how Jane came about to this," she motioned in the direction of Jane, " condition?" Lily and Ophelia shook their heads. She looked at them sharply for a moment, then she sighed, "I guess you wouldn't know. Anyways, both of you, good work in bringing her here, Professor Dumbledore will be informed of this, you may leave now." They nodded and then left the hospital wing to go back to the common room. Neither of them spoke anything on the way, each absorbed in her own thoughts until they entered through the portrait of the Fat Lady. Then Ophelia opened her mouth to speak but Lily silenced her, nodding towards a figure which was sitting near the fire, apparently deep in thought.
They were just tiptoeing (at Lily's stubborn bidding) towards the staircase that led towards the girls' dormitories when they heard a voice come from the direction of the fire.
"Hey, what're you two doing down here at this time?" It was James Potter.
Lily whirled around, annoyed and ignoring Ophelia's frantic tugging at her robes from behind, she replied, "What's your problem if we go about the castle or anywhere else for that matter??!! What I do or where I go is not anyone's business especially arrogant pigs like you!"
Lily then left in a blaze leaving a speechless and confused James behind. Ophelia hurriedly followed Lily up the stairs to their dormitory, knowing she was going to have a head ache trying to deal with Lily's bad temper now, along with everything else.

Remus Lupin sat in the Hospital Wing, covered from head to toe with bruises and cuts from his ordeal the last night. He had a particularly nasty cut over his left eyebrow and was having difficulty trying to see with his left eye. Even then, it wasn't the physical pain that was troubling him at the moment…he had gone through this pain so many times that he had almost become used to it now…almost…
No, the thing that was hurting him, was the fact that last night had come close, so close to being a repeat of that horrible night six months ago. The night he had almost killed Severus Snape, the greasy haired, then sixth year Slytherin. Remus had always remembered details of his "wolf" nights, vague as they were. After his monthly ordeal, the next day, he would get minor flashes of remembrance, as he lay in the hospital wing, covered with injuries and Madam Pomfrey bustled about, doing her job.
Most of the time, he could only remember the smell of blood and the forest and things such as rabbits or squirrels would come to his dreams, as he lay in the hospital wing, the day after his transformations, a small part of his mind was still a bit wolfish.
And the day after that terrible night when he had almost killed Snape, he could remember it very vividly, though his memoirs were always wolfish and he remembered Snape rather as his prey than a fellow student.
He knew that he had come close to killing another fellow student, the last night. He was feeling the same pangs of guilt, as during the Snape fiasco, if possible, they were even worse. He felt as though he was burning…burning with a fire of guilt and his eyes were a whirlpool of emotions…
Remus wondered who was the "lucky" person, who had almost become his meal for last night.
"Remus, stop looking so sad and morose and eat something decent now, come." Startled from his thoughts, he glanced up from his bed to see Madam Pomfrey standing at the foot of his bed. He got up, wincing, as there was a sharp increase in the pain. He quietly started eating whatever Madam Pomfrey had brought for him while looking around the Hospital Wing. It was then that he noticed Jane Grayson lying on the bed opposite to his.
It seemed that she had just woken up and had had a dose of Pomfrey's 'Touch-up' potion, the one she always gave to Remus after she was done with his injuries. It tasted horrible and he smiled feebly as Jane made a face after drinking it. Just then Professor Stallys entered the room and she went straight to Jane's bed, though not before glancing at Remus. Then his smile faded as he realized why she must be here…
