The startling prediction was made by former Carry On actor Jim Dale, the "voice"on the popular Potter audio tapes in America.
Jim was recently quoted as saying that the author told him, 'You have to wait to see whether Harry survives to be a grown-up."
He confirmed author JK Rowling's declaration that the seventh Harry novel, which she has recently started to write, will be her last.
But the 70-year-old expat, who became a Broadway star after moving to the States in the seventies, added, "She has lived with Harry Potter so long she really wants to kill him off."
Jim, who has met JK several times, did not elaborate on how Harry might meet his maker. His belief echoes that of Potter film star Daniel Radcliffe. He said last year: "I've always had the suspicion Harry might die."
The author, JK Rowling, was, however, unavailable for comment.
The latest Harry Potter movie, The Goblet of Fire, grossed an estimated 92.6 million dollars from more than 11,600 prints in 57 markets, taking its overall gross to a massive 560 million dollars.
