Concept -
Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai (HGKKH) is a story of three prominent characters, Prathna, Siddhi, & Sanskriti that have different dreams, and ambitions in life.
Character Sketch -
Hope this will help newcomers to our forum to get more well versed with the characters and storyline.
Prathna's Family -
Prathna:
Prathna is an orphan who has been brought up in a joint family by her uncle. She dreams of marrying into a happy joint family. Though she gets married into a rich joint family her dream shatters when she realises that the family is divided with each member living his or her own individual life.
Tauji:
Tauji is Prathna's doting uncle who wants to fulfill her dreams of marrying into a joint family just like the one she grew up in. He finds the perfect groom in Akshay Thakral for her, but during the wedding, he learns the real truth of the Thakral family, that they are not the happy lovey-dovey united family that they seem to be.
Taiji:
Taiji is Tauji's wife and Prathna's aunt. She too loves and cares for Prathna very much, and only wishes for her well being.
Siddhi:
Siddhi, is a traditional yet vivacious and vibrant girl who has returned from London. She loves and respects her elders. She believes in love marriage. But at the same time, she has made up her mind that she would not stay in a joint family. She meets Gyan Kapoor at Prathna's wedding and its love at first sight, until she realizes he lives in a joint family of 25 people.
Siddhi's Mom & Dad:
Siddhi's mom and dad are not the traditional type as Tauji and Taiji. They are the typical rich people who show off thier wealth and richness, and are picky about every little thing. They are settled in London and have come to India for Prarthna's wedding.
Thakral Family -
Mrs. Thakral:
Mrs. Thakral aka 'Sue' is Akshay, Vishal, and Prem's mom. She is always upset with her husband, because of his numerous affairs. The only family member she gets along with is Akshay, since he is the only one who actually cares for her.
Mr. Thakral:
Mr. Thakral aka 'Rio' doesn't care for the rest of his family. He has many affairs which everyone in the family is aware of. This causes many fights b/w him and his wife, they never seem to spend 1 minute together without nagging at each other.
Akshay:
The black sheep in the family, Akshay seems to be the only person in the Thakral family that really cares. He is a very sweet person, and he loves Prathna a lot. He is aware of his family's vices, but does not let Prathna know.
Vishal & Tarana:
Vishal is Akshay's brother, and is married to Tarana. Both are very snobby and ignorant towards Prathna. They don't like living in a joint family and don't like anyone interfering in their lives.
Prem & Shalini:
Prem is one of the kinder family members of the Thakral household, though his wife is nowhere near as good as him. They fight all the time, and are not in good terms with each other at all. Shalini is an airhostess and is hardly ever at home, though when she is, she is always annoyed with Prathna interfering in her life.
Mrs. D'souza:
Mrs. D'souza is the maid and caretaker of the Thakral house. She's impressed with Prathna and her values, though she is given no importance from the rest of the Thakral family.
Sanskriti:
Sanskriti is actually quite unlike the name of her character. Being a model, Sanskriti is a very bold, blunt and stubborn girl. She is a rebel and simply just doesn't believe in the institute of marriage. She lives in with her boyfriend, Rajeev.
Gyan's Family -
Gyan:
The heartthrob of the show, Gyan Kapoor, is a very bubbly guy, a typical mamma's boy, and prankster to the core. He falls in love with Siddhi during Prathna's wedding, and is totally smitten by her. He lives in an orthodox joint family, which Siddhi is unhappy to learn.
Gyan's Dad:
Gyan's dad is a typical orthodox, caring father. He is glad to meet Siddhi, but is alarmed at her rude behavior towards him and his family.
Others -
Rio's girlfriend:
We have not learnt much abt her yet, only that she is very cozy with Rio and none of the other family member seem to care, even Akshay.
Rajeev:
Sanskriti's boyfriend and photographer, he lives in with her. Though when in public, Mrs. Thakral explains him as 'Sanskriti's to-be-hubby'... neither Sanskriti nor Rajeev plan to get married.
