Nikhil--A pure hearted confused hero

After reading many posts and also posting myself about storyline, I felt today I need to rethink what I am thinking.

Few suggestions on forum in various posts helped my thought process too .My thanks to all of them before I start this new topic.

Nikhil has a basic urge to protect Laajo. He doesn't know what it is, how it is connected to his heart,is it just humanity, a soul connection, chemistry ,platonic love .I really don't know. But it is there .

That is the instinct that scared Ishaana to core.

Today I was reflecting on some of earlier games Ishaana had played. I remember a scne in den with Ranjana and Kunal had kind of jolted Nikhil. After his fight with kunal he was still thinking about how sadly Laajo's life had been affected by all this.That is when Ishaana got shock of her life and decided to up her game by doing peanut butter tactic, even after all that fiasco Nikhil was still able to feel tenderly about Laajo on that trip be it on bonfire or in front of that lion or when she slept on floor. the ultimate game of kunal that Got played on Nikhil was what pushed everything to edge.

But despite all this one thing that makers have kept constant in this whole characterization of Nikhil is his basic instinct. and that is to protect Laajo.He simply cannot bear even the thought of hurting her so thoroughly.Yes he can yell at her or call her names but always there is deep down urge to protect when ever she needs it .We have seen it when she was saved by him ,later on when he married her .On the trip back the small gesture of care. His reassurance to her when he brought her back, his fight for her at time of her sister's sangeet or even against Ishaana's accusations sometimes.But whenever she is in deeper trouble he was there for her ,that is what was making it hard for him to sign those papers .So playing on his psychology his whole family played by his instincts as they can see level of his feelings for Laajo.

I am not saying they r seeing his love as he doesn't love her but what he feels for her is more deeper that is a emotional connection/sense of responsibility and basic instinct to protect. If he had same intensity for Ishaana(despite his too visual rants) he would have never married Laajo.

I hope I did not confuse everyone. I would love to see everyone's comments on this post

I think you are right. I think Nikhil grasped the very essence of an arranged marriage --- that to love a person is not a feeling, but a decision. A decision to remain true to the vow you made when you got married. Even if he didn't love laajoo as much as he does IShaana, his respect for laajoo weighed far greater than his emotional feelings for Ishaana, which was the reason why despite all the bad mouthing of his family and ishaana, he was deeply hurt when Lajoo left him. Because he expected laajoo to have the same level of respect for their marriage. Their marriage was not based on love, but based on respect. and over time, if only IShaana gave them the chance to bond and left nikhil, love could grow (as it grew in laajoo already) and their marriage would have worked, and we will not be watching this series anymore. hehehe..

I liked how u have analysed his basic instinct.. Nikhil has this basic innate tendency to do good always, in the earlier episodes it was shown that he is ready to help anyone..in the village also he saved Laajo from drowning due to this reason.

After marriage this protective instinct had increased for her, he felt like he had to protect her thus, he does feel guilty that Laajo left the house.. I think the protective feeling is there for Ishaana but its increased more for Laajo I wish he had analysed the memories thing I do feel it would have been more for Laajo.

so true if Nikhil was not confused, serial would have ended and beauty of journey would be to watch Nikhil mature to a person we can admire.

I don't think he is madly in love Laajo but he will always deeply care for her

thanks for this post...I feel Laajo's memories will be more powerful eventually too. And true Nikhil is soft hearted and his mom,nani and Ishaana exploited that very core goodness in him.

Forgive me yaar here i dont and i cant agree with u all that Nikhil is neither pure hearted
nor a confused hero.

He is not at all confused sami he is very clear in yesterday epiosde also he clarified
again and again that he wants to lead his life only and only with Ishaana. Why r u not
understanding that yaar and i think forum people are confusing about his behaviour.
He is very clear from the beginining till now about Ishaana . Is n't it ?

What he feels for Laajo is guilt yes that guilt also very less he thinks that
He is sacrificing and freeing laajo as if she wants divorce as if he is doing good for
her .

I cant agree right now that he is a pure hearted person . He is a selfish person
and behaving like one .

What he feels for laajo does n't make him a pure hearted one . He does n't deserve
that word sami . I agree that he is not a bad guy but at the same time i insisit that
he is not good person also .

What he feels for laajo that very very slight guilt he could have felt for any other
person even for an animal who spent some time with him and left him with out
informing him . Nothing more than that . What is great in that ? Do u think laajo
deserves only this much from him ? Why are u making him great when he is not ?

Sorry i feel that because he is a hero people are seeing what they want to see in him
how they want to see him . But he is not like that .

He is a hero i agree but hero only for Ishaana surely not for Laajo and he is not
behaving like one .

Well I am a silent reader on this forum. I must confess that I got hooked to the show by Laajo's innocence , courage, selflessness and surely her maturity. To say about Nikhil , I feel the problem is that he lets someone else decide for him even on personal issues. Earlier he married Laajo after he felt what his Grandpa said was right. Then he wanted to leave her back to Sonbarsa on his mother's insistence. Then he maintained distance and even made her life hell under the influence of Ishaana.
