I understand that Inder(Nikhil father) is week, but what does he mean that he agrees with Barkha that Laajo is not suitable for Nikhil? What is Laajo lacking to be Nikhil wife?

What just because Laajo is from a village she is not Laayak of being a wife of city man?

Or is it because she don't dress like them?

Or is it because she doesn't speak fluent english?

Did they ever try to teach to Laajo how city people live etc..?

Did he or Nikhil try to educate her?help her study?

What is Laajo lacking ?I don't get...she is soo sweet caring down to earth smart girl...

I dont understand why people look down on villagers...they are human just like people live in the city...just because they are poor doesn't mean they don't deserve to be happy and wish for better living...who would want that any ways to live in better conditions and they are hard working people...they are down to earth and humble...so loving and caring...they live with self respect and dignity...

plzz share your thoughts..

about people thinking villagers are dumb, Am not very sure how villagers are in rest of
India but I am from Indian Punjab and for us villagers are extra rich landlords who have mansions in village, even though part of mansion has separate cows/buffalos and farm equipment section. In general punajb has most middle class, extra fertile land, hard to see such poverty like its shown here. But I can understand that there is lots of poverty in rest of India.I think villagers are purer of heart in general.they have extra warmth ,their hearts are big as their open fields.
The show actually tries to show us difference from the myth about village people. People in villages can be as smart as city counter parts.
Now coming to this show and about Nikhil's dad-- I feel he thinks Laajo is not suitable as she doesn't fit in society but u r right no one taught her, she would have learned and whole journey is about Laajo's journey and how the family will have to eat their own words...

I completly agree with u yaar . When i heard laajo is not suitable from
nikhil's dad's mouth . I was like what the ? And then i remembered just before
that scene nikhil also said to his mom when talking about laajo
that he understands and agrees that laajo is not suitable as his wife or as bahu for
his family .

Hmm Jaisa baap waisa Beta Really same thinking . same spineless behaviour . His dad

Laajo is not suitable for Nikhil because they come from starkly different backgrounds. Sure he found her charming in a raw rustic manner and acknowledged her goodness, harbored tender feelings towards her but in the harsh probing daylight the exoticness quickly faded away replaced by disappointment due to vast differences in in day to day lifestyle.

If they had been in love then such differences could have been over come with time and allowances would have been made by his family though grudgingly. But love was never a factor in their relations. It was founded on guilt and emotional blackmail.

It is natural that we feel sympathy for Laajo and her family since they are poor and simple folk. But if you examine the core happenings, it would be easy to come to the conclusion that this so-called "marriage" was an eyewash to save Laajo's honor at the expense of Nikhil (and his families) hopes and dreams and Nikhil was wronged. Laajo too, but that was an outcome of her parents not standing up for her.

Barkha was cruel; yet everything she told Laajo's father was spot on. The truth that people like Chachu and Laajo's parents deliberately ignore - Laajo was forced upon Nikhil and there is no reason why he or she or any member of this family should be forced to swallow that bitter pill ?

Nikhil and Laajo were wrong in weaving this web of lies. This marriage was never intended to bloosom into emotional or physical intimacy. Instead it was a pleasant platonic understanding, an arrangement that suited Nikhil's conscience and Laajo's survival. That is not how a marriage should be nor should it have been allowed to sustain.

When Nikhil does take a step towards her, it should not out of guilt or compassion or charity. But it should be of a man towards his woman.. a woman he adores, a woman he respects, a woman he deeply desires to share his hopes, his dreams and every moment of his future as a sakhi and a saiyan.

Loved your post and agree with a lot of it but just wanted to add my 2 cents too it.😆
I have to disagree with the point you made that Nikhil was forced to marry Laajo. Nikhil was not forced by anyone, yes his Baba tried to convince him to marry Laajo, but ultimately it was Nikhil's choice. No one forced him to do it, in fact he was on his way home to Dehli making clear his escape from Sonvarsha when he made an abrupt u-turn and married Laajo. I know it was an emotional decision for him after seeing those boys in front of his car and recalling his elder brother and grandfather's words but by no means was he forced to marry her. He was on his way to his beloved Ishana but decided to come back. Laajo on the other hand was more like a puppet just going along with the flow unable to make any decision of her own, and of course the puppeteers holding her strings being her parents. ...

Also wanted to add that all these difference between the two would slowly abate if Nikhil had given Laajo a chance and spent time with her. This could only have happened if he had decided not to continue pursuing Ishana while being married a man and vice versa with Ishana pursuing him. In time Laajo would have definitely learned everything there was to know about living in the "city" but without loosing the essence that is her... The time they spent in Sonvarsha was an indication how well they could have gotten along if Ishana wasn't around (of course it wasn't enough time for love to bloom as it was only a day or two but it was enough for them to spend some quality time together - something that has been sorely lacking while living in the city). Nikhil seemed to actually seemed to be more alive when he was there, free from Ishana and his mom's influence.

The difference seemed to become more apparent to Nikhil after that weekend trip they took with his friends. I think part of the problem with the weekend trip was that it happened when he was already upset with Laajo (of course due to all the manipulating lies that his Ishana, mom and Nani planned). Had he not already been upset with her, I'm sure he would have taken more time to explain all these things that were new to her.

I have meet and will continue to meet people who are new to Canada, not only from India but from many different countries and each one of them has a period of adjustment to their new surrounding and the new way of living (be it work or home). Many of them have never had/seen/or heard of the conveniences and amenities available here but they all manage to adjust over a period of time, just like Laajo would do if given the time...Anyone has a period of learning when presented with something new, it can't just magically happen...
