ooohhh!!! ooohhh!!! ooohhh!!! what an episode!!!πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜† okay, i shall start from the beginning! (like anyone starts from the middleπŸ€”)

toooh...
kesuda screams GULAAAL under that tree in his house! and then somewhere at the same time, gulaal wakes up and looks around uneasily, and then goes back to sleep. and then suddenly, GULAAL! as i explain the significance of both the scenes, i would also like to make some comments on the cinematography. the first few lines which he whispers to himself, we see the camera moving on the same level as kesuda's sunken form under that tree as if we're sitting right in front of him and listening to his woes. it's almost as if all of us viewers were made to sit in front him, get down to his level of spirits and empathise since he really has no one to share his views with. as the camera moves showing kesar gripping his mind, kind of feeling restrained, there is sort of a net like barrier between the camera, and him, and it gives me the image of "prisoner of his own mind". perfect portrayal of his current state. he really does want to get out of his current pathetic state of mind and be out of it, and that's then when he screams out GULAAL (as if she's the one who has the keys to the prison cell he is captured in), the camera on top of him, zooms out to signify the magnitude of his scream, his pain, his utter agony. and what i found so significant was, that kesar was sitting under tree that was almost lifeless, quite barren, just like his state. in the world of symbolism, trees have always been held as a symbol for life. the amount of leaves, fruits, depicting how one's life is. and at this point i was reminded of one of the poems i came across a few years which was like this.

In the dead of winter,
one of my favorite symbols is a barren tree
with buds.
Those quiet bare branches
hold the magnificent potential of LIFE.
It seems almost impossible
that there could be so much green in them.
Yet, all winter the buds wait
for the warmth of spring to open them.
When I walk among the winter trees
I am consoled and filled with hope." -Joyce Rupp

quite true, aint it? for kesar's case? he has so much potential for life! but at this point of time, he's barren, and with hope in his heart, he shall await his spring.

then comes gulaal's scene.where the previous soundtrack (opera like) is also being played, as if to show the deep connection between these two characters. WOW! the way she wakes up, as if having that innate (almost primal instinct like other animals have for their own loved ones) connection. it was such an adrenaline pumping scene, when she woke up suddenly after the tension was built! AMAZING! and then the look of pure shock on her face when she saw him there.

man, kesar looked PATHETIC! HOPELESS! LIFELESS! i agree with reva, mujhse uski yeh haalat dekhi nahin jaati. then he said all that he said all those years ago when gulaal threatened to leave the house, man that image of young kesar flashed in my mind begging her not to go. i can't understand how can gulaal care about him if she's treating him this. HEARTLESS! okay, i dont want to even express my views on that woman's behaviour. this is kesar thread so i shall get back to my point.😳

gulaal, upon seeing, instinctively put her chunar over her head (see! somewhere she does think of him as her husband!) and then tries to explain to him he's mad and all. he explains how actually mad he's going, but she's not ready to hear what others have to say. kesuda gaya bhaad mein. she slams shut the door, and kesar ceases his screaming. she assumes he has left and that maharani goes back to sleep. in the morning when she sees him again outside, sleeping all night in that cold when she was all cozy inside her blanket, that %$^%* did not even make him go back to his house. you the soundtrack (with the mandir ki ghanti being played) the played after she opened her window, was awesome! it portrayed love, tension, devotion , care, sadness, anger, indifference. (bold - kesar's feelings, italicized - both and normal font style - gulaal) .

damn, reva had to come, knock some sense into him and only then he left and before he left, that tune that was played of only flute, as if kanha is missing his "bansuri" beautiful scene. and after all that, i really wondered, why is she bloody mad at him? what has he done that she's punishing him this way?

then came JK, my second favourite character!πŸ˜† wow! i tell you, that woman has been sneakingly seeing all our posts! she just said what we all feel!πŸ˜† true. paanba should know more about kesar than JK does. very true that nobody cares about what is going through his mind. absolutely true that GULAAL KE YEH TEWAR! πŸ‘ hats off to you kaaki ji. kaaki ji knew kesar was with gulaal.. he was quite surprised she knew, but isince she knew already, he walked off.

and then gulaal with her mother. all i can say that why does gulaal always ONLY want people to see things from her POV? why other people's POV dont matter much kya? itne tewar?! 😑 wah bhai! she only wants people to understand her and she would not understand anyone else's feelings. no matter all this while, the family was in shatters. she never understood them . she only did things the way she liked.

then we see kesar having that inner chaos within him as he recalls last night's events. poor thing, this halla gulla inside him is really going to take his jaan away, as he mentioned then. by the end of his conversation with D, i pretty much saw the glance of a very determined kesar. GOOD BOY! aise hi karna chahiye!😳

let's skip the gulaal-poonamba mother-daughter and side mein nanand wala scene.πŸ˜† cos gulaal is super annoying. she didn't even apologise to her mother for her own behaviour in the past week. 😑

i dont even want to talk about gulaal's date trip (as mentioned by srush) with talli. but i loved the way it ended. kesar, will get what he wants. the scene was like a "challenge themed" one. when both their eyes locked, and kesar ne aarti (arty barty!πŸ˜‰) li, it was almost like, gulaal, tu mujhe aashirvaad de, ki mein jo chahoon, mujhe mile. EPIC ENDING!

and precap toh, ZABARDAST! i can't wait for tomorrow! argh! it's high time we get an ME yaar!πŸ˜‰πŸ˜³

EDIT - is it just me or anyone else think that gulaal is a big time supporter of altruism?πŸ˜•πŸ˜†

it was almost like, gulaal, tu mujhe aashirvaad de, ki mein jo chahoon, mujhe mile
Cracked me up that line lol
Kesar does seem lifeless even in the last scene, his eyes seem so lost and red to an extent
I very much agree on his devotion kind of love he has... everything is Gulaal and so on, and like you even at the window he looked so lifeless, hopeless even
I very much agree on the first few secs of the start, the inner connection we see, Gulaal disturbed by we all know Kesar's scream calling from somewhere, it was soulful and then few secs later the shock - of him screaming #
Like Nureat said - Gulaal seems to be in major denial over anything that concerns Kesar, and whatever form he is - she's just not reaching out to him and so on

Awesome post, Shalini...especially love how you described the camerawork in the first scene...brilliantπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘...the symbolism was brilliantly used in that first scene...Kesar's state of mind...we totally feel drawn into it.

thank you!!!😳 you're called anu right?πŸ˜• PLEASE forgive me if i am wrong..
i was actually quite drawn to the cinematography, because the shadow of the barren tree on him, was kinda of giving me chills down my spine since yesterday, and then i tried to add 2 and 2, and i got my answer. actually, all credits go to dan brown. after reading his books based on symbology, i have quite kept my eyes open. πŸ˜† and as you said, the entire scene in totality, with its actor, the background lighting, music, everything, really draws you into the TV and makes you sit in front of him and empathise with him.
