Gulaal enters her room, shuts the door, and standing against it weeps bitterly, thinking of Kesar's softly uttered words about how much he loves her, she is trying to fight the thought but it is there and she cannot fight it. Gulaal goes in front of Vasant's photo and again thinks of Kesar's words. Gulaal removes the photo from the wall and hugs it, sitting on the floor, weeping to her heart's content, as if trying to hold onto Vasant, as if something stronger is pulling her away and she wants to keep holding on to Vasant.
Talli is in her room holding her wedding dress and crying, thinking of good moments with Kesar, and then to the wedding fiasco and Kesar's words about not wanting to break the deeyarvattu. Sudha sees her crying and feels very bad. Talli goes to put the wedding clothing and jewels away in the closet when she notices the bag where she hid Kesar's letters. She removes the letters and sees the name on them.
Gulaal is in her room, someone is knocking, Gulaal hangs Vasant's photo back on the wall. Gulaal opens the door, Talli enters with the bag of letters in her hand. Gulaal tries to show regret for whatever happened, Talli interrupts saying that why does it happen that who we love that person doesn't love us back, who they like don't love them back, then if the person likes us we don't like them, why does this happen to us. Roundabout dialogue - this is probably the worst dialogue in Gulaal, totally meaningless. She says that till today she always loved Kesar, but he never loved her, he never even thought about her, and Gulaal never thought about Kesar in that manner but Kesar loves Gulaal.
Gulaal looks horrified and asks her how does she know. Talli shows her the letters saying that these are letters that Kesar wrote to Gulaal to date. She shows more letters and says all of them have Gulaal's name on them, they are all for her. She continues that what is this if not love, which is why Kesar declared Gulaal as his wife in front of everyone, despite Gulaal's stubbornness he was steadfast in his assertion in front of the panchayat that he will not break the deeyarvattu, because he doesn't want to lose Gulaal. He was not able to complete the circling of fire with Talli, why, because he doesn't want to give anyone other than Gulaal a place in his life. Gulaal looks at the letters strewn over the table. Talli says that she is so stupid, she made such a big mistake, (Talli is stupid, not Gulaal, but at this point I find Gulaal to be more stupid), the letters were with her yet she didn't read them. Gulaal feels bad. Talli says that had she seen them once, the situation would not have been so drastic. She cries and asks Gulaal why did this happen to them, why are they at crossroads where she loves someone who loves Gulaal, why. She wipes her tears and asks Gulaal if she can return the letters to Kesar. Talli leaves. This situation happened only because of Gulaal, had she not made promises on behalf of Kesar, had she not insisted that Kesar marry Talli, none of this would have happened. On a positive side, at least Kesar came to the realization that he loves Gulaal.
Gulaal looks at the letters and reads them one by one. Kesar wrote that Gulaal must be wondering why he doesn't write to her or meet her, why he doesn't respond to her letters, honestly he wants to make her unhappy and see her worried, because of the anger inside of him, and so many questions that only Gulaal can answer. Gulaal lets go of the letter as if in a trance and picks up the next. It says that he missed Gulaal so much that day, not a day goes by when he doesn't miss her or think of her, but he doesn't understand why he doesn't come to talk to her or meet her when she comes, why he doesn't respond to her letters. She is reading and the voiceover is Kesar's voice, which is full of pain and tears. The third one has that why does he always wait for her letters, on one hand he doesn't like being there all alone, on the other hand he doesn't want to even come close to her, on one hand are the moments of happiness that he shared with her, on the other hand are the words that he heard that day, what is the truth, how should he find out. The fourth says why is he so full of anger at her, then he misses her so much that he feels like crying. She picks up another letter, it says, when she is before him he doesn't even want to see her, and when she is away his eyes keep searching for her. Why can't he hate her even though he wants to? At the last part his voice breaks with tears and frustration.
A gust of wind comes and sweeps all the letters to the floor. Gulaal bends down and picks them up, the background music is beautiful, of Krishna's flute, as if something beautiful is going on in terms of realization, like a new life is getting birth, hopeful. This was the same music played the night before when Gulaal slapped Kesar. Gulaal grabs all the letters quickly lest the wind take them away, and has an expression of confusion and yet seems overwhelmed with emotion. Gulaal (the biggest moron on this show) packs a bag, then picks up the letters and leaves for Kesar's room.
Poonam is packing gifts for everyone happily and asks Reva if everyone is covered. Reva asks her if she is upset with her going to the wedding despite Poonam's refusing. Poonam tells her that she was mad at her, but now she is not. She is not angry at anyone, she has forgotten all the negative stuff, Goddess has given her so much and has brought color back to Gulaal's life, nothing else matters. I think there is a pun here with "color". Had the deeyarvattu been broken, Gulaal would be called Vasant's widow and have to dress like a widow. Kesar brought back color to her life from every perspective - new love, hope, happiness, beauty, community's respect, and dressing. Poonam's husband comes and asks why she needs so many things, Poonam says that they are going to Gulaal's place and need to take all these gifts, she said so many things to them in anger, even to Mota Bha. Anyway, if end is good everything is good. Now that Kesar has acknowledged Gulaal as his wife in front of everyone and received the panchayat's blessings, they should go there to convert the bitterness into sweetness.
Gulaal enters Kesar's room and the first thing she sees is a photo of Vasant with young Kesar. She picks up the photo, has tears in her eyes, and its as if she has a very slight smile and is looking at them with so much love, but knows that she must be strong. She lets her tears fall, then puts back the photo with a sense of determination about what she must do next.
She puts the letters gently in front of the photo. Kesar looks on and asks rhetorically if she read them. Gulaal turns around. There is so much chemistry between the two, Kesar looks so calm, confident, cool, and sexy, and Gulaal is now all awkward and hesitant. Its as if Kesar knows that they are bound for life with the panchayat's supporting them, and nothing can come in their way no matter what, and its only a matter of time till Gulaal comes around. He tells her that she has now seen that not only does he share a bond with her since childhood, his love for her also is since childhood. Gulaal protests that this is not love, this is not love, what he thinks love is infatuation with her. Kesar's expression is like he knows this is how she is going to react and will continue to remain in denial, but he is determined not to budge or give in. He knows her so well! Gulaal tries to pass off the tale of yarn that she wove to convince herself, saying that Kesar has been around her all the time since childhood, and since everyone called her his wife his innocent mind started thinking of it as love, this is not love. Its as if Gulaal has an inkling that she is kidding herself, but is desperately trying to convince herself and Kesar that it is infatuation.
Kesar steps forward and stands closer to her in front of her, and meeting her gaze he asks her hurtfully that she is free to think and call it whatever she wants, but not to insult his love by calling it innocence/ignorant. Gulaal continues to protest, Kesar continues that only she is resident in his mind, all these years he has only loved her, she will have to accept the truth of his love. Gulaal is horrified again, as if she doesn't want to hear it and yet it keeps dangling in front of her again and again, first Jamna, then Poonam, then Kesar, even Talli, and now again Kesar. I LOVE how softly Kesar speaks to Gulaal, he knows that is the only way to get across. If he is aggressive she will go into her shell and rebel, if he insists she will run away, his telling her softly will seep into her mind somehow and she will not be able to fight it.
Kesar looks at her with such a deep desire and hope for acceptance. Gulaal has tears in her eyes, turns away with an expression of OMG I so don't want to deal with this, and leaves. Kesar is even more confident and determined now that he knows that she is starting to realize, since the rain of slaps did not follow.
Dushyant apologizes to Sudha and says that he did not have a choice. Sudha demands to know if his apology will wipe Talli's tears that she is wiping with her marriage clothing, can they return her happiness. Jamna supports Dushyant and says that if Kesar doesn't want to marry Talli it is his personal decision, why is she blaming panchayat for this, and it is Sudha's fault that despite knowing that Kesar is married how can she dream of her daughter's marriage with a married man. YAY Jamna, I love this woman, I said this exact same thing yesterday, someone finally to put Sudha in her place. Jamna continues that how could Sudha even think that Kesar will leave Gulaal and marry her Talli. Sudha has an expression of how dare you accuse me, everyone will be ready to leave their wives for my Talli.
Paan Baa says that they are all sad about what happened to Talli, but they cannot blame others for her plight. Paan Baa says annoyed that Sudha and Gulaal took such a big decision about Kesar and Talli and did not even feel the need to ask or inform the elders. While Paan baa is saying this, the camera includes Vasant's photo behind her in the shot. Paan Baa tells her that they did not even tell Kesar anything, marriage is not a joke, it is a matter of one's entire life, and such decisions cannot be made like this. Because of Sudha and Gulaal's immaturity (lack of understanding) the family has become a laughing stock in front of the entire village.
Sudha throws in the emotional blackmail card and says that everyone said whatever they had to, bot nobody cares what she and Talli are going through, what is the kid's fault, the poor girl's childhood dream has been shattered, nobody cares about her. (Sudha needs to stop thrusting Talli down people's throats - fine, nobody cares, move on. Do you care about Gulaal or anyone else?). Sudha says that she is her mother and will not remain quiet. Raman's expression is like he is sick of this. Dushyant feels bad for her. Jamna tells Raman to keep his wife under control else she will get out of hand one day. Raman follows Sudha.
Paan Baa says that she is worried about Kesar. Jamna asks why worry about Kesar now, whatever is happening is correct, initially all the relationships were confused, whatever decision panchayat made is right. Mota Bha says that panchayat took the right decision but relations cannot be created with such decisions. Will Gulaal agree to be bound in such a relationship? Jamna asks why not, what more does she want, her husband has acknowledged her as his wife, at least both can start their married life like a couple now, she has been saying that for so long now. Mota Bha responds firmly that he too has been saying for a long time that they cannot force or compel Gulaal to think of Kesar as her husband. Paan Baa doesn't agree with this from her expression. No wonder Gulaal and Mota Bha get along so well - their priorities are all screwed up. Kesar loves Gulaal, Gulaal loves Talli. Mota Bha loves Gulaal more than Kesar. If he truly cared about Gulaal though he would want her to experience love and happiness again. Parents don't indulge kids, they show them the right way even if they have to be harsh. Jamna asks then with what relationship will Gulaal live in this house. Gulaal comes there right then and declares that she is leaving the house.
I don't get this - doesn't Gulaal know that they will not let her go? Is she telling them in the hope that they will heed to her stubbornness to prevent her from leaving? Why didn't she just leave without telling them unless she wanted to use this as a blackmail tactic to get her way?
Everyone is shocked. Gulaal says that Jamna is right, she doesn't agree with her and Kesar being husband-wife, how can she stay in the house, so she is leaving. Gulaal looks so lost and confused while saying this, as if she doesn't want to do it but has no choice.
Precap: Gulaal tells Paan Baa that she is not leaving with unhappiness or annoyance with others, she is leaving because it will be the right thing to do. She asks Paan Baa not to stop her.
