Kesar cannot get over the fact after seeing Dushyant enter Gulaal's room. He does not want to be at home. He decides to leave home, he was angry. His father stopped him at the wrong time. He came down fast through the steps, slowed down seeing his dad, and lowered his head down to quietly sneak out of home without drawing his attention. And when he did, he was doubtful to stay there to hear what not. His annoyance was obvious in his "Why, about what, what change in me" as his dad continued his accusations regarding his behavior. He was calm when he replied what is there to fear, what's right for others need not be the same for him. He made it clear with a sigh that he was not in the frame-of-mind and unwilling to speak anything at all.
His annoyance aggravated. He was feeling ashamed as he was reminded of the night he was drunk and his father goes on to tell him that he isn't a bit ashamed of what he did. What an irony that his dad can't even take a deep look into his son's eyes for once.
He was annoyed at the truth he knew. He can't confess but he can't tolerate being questioned for small things. He tried to explain in not so many words that there are larger issues within home that goes unnoticed. He can't get himself to even mention those allegations.
When his dad was approaching him, Kesar did not want to remain there. He was confused already, he was hurt over the happenings, he was frustrated, he was helpless as he could not openly talk about those issues, and he was in no mood for any more talks. It showed in his body language when he did not reciprocate or respond to his father's display of affection. The more Motabha held his shoulders, the more he held himself away from his dad as though if given a chance he would just quickly disappear from sight.
His dad continued his advice. Poor guy, mention the name of Vasant, and Kesar needs to take a deep breath by closing his eyes to that realization of always being expected to be Vasant-like. Manoj Joshi is a good actor. He took Vasant's name in such a way we could feel the warmth and affection for his deceased son.
The aggravating frustration for always being expected to fulfill Vasant's responsibilities was a very tense moment. When he said out loud "Vasant Ba", it showed his frustration over his inability to match Vasant's standards in any ways. He could take that too, but the minute he gets to hear some appreciation about Dushyant who seems to be able to partly perform like Vasant, all the held-up, bottled up emotions go astray. That came as a powerful assertion when he charged Motabha for trying to find Vasant in him, that he can't be one and he does not wish to either. Seeing his dad's shocked face, Kesar for a minute was surprised at himself over that announcement but again his frustration was so volatile, that he yelled out to him to stop searching for Vasant in him.
His main problem was about other's ignorance of major conspiracies that remained hidden but instead were set out to find more flaws in him. He was frustrated and annoyed with the saintly images people were portraying. It was largely a hit at Dushyant and partly Gulaal.
An unwanted interference by Dushyant was the last straw. Like them, Kesar does not know to hide his feelings for long that it turned out in an ugly fashion at Dushyant where he alerted him to stop interfering and that he has lost that right that of an elder, many years ago.
Motabha supporting him was again a major blow. I like the scene where Kesar stood between Vasant's photo and Dushyant. How beautifully it was taken showing Kesar's inability to forgive his brother's murderer and it showed his love for his deceased brother too. For Kesar, no one can take Vasant's place.
Nothing is actually what it seems, he too is not like how he seems. This is what Kesar told the family. He dared himself to say that straight to Dushyant too.
That was a wrong time for Gulaal maiyya to interfere. When the whole family is just listening to Kesar, madam has to show her rights of being the goddess of the family who could go on to slap him for the sake of Dushyant. That came as an utter shock and disbelief to him and he was plainly hurt.
Neither Kesar nor any of us viewers can believe that she actually said that "Kaafi galtiyon pe parda daal chuke hain". Now did I miss something in the show that Kesar tried something like kidnapping, forcing himself on any woman or even murdering??
Kesar was visibly hurt because he knows what major things she has hidden from all and she accuses him of not supporting the family during bad times. Rising anger, disgust at her outrageous behavior, Kesar walks off.
COMEDY OF THE SLAP SCENE: When Motabha asks Gulaal to stop advising, she exercises her rights over him more than his parents. And no one has the nerve to tell Gulaal that what she did was wrong.
