“I agree Vikram. Divorce toh hoga”, Guddan proceeded to fetch her purse from the sofa and taking out a stamped paper, slammed it on the dining table in front of Vikram.

“Par hamara aurAkshat Ji ka nhi, aapka aur hamara!” Guddan finished as Vikram’s eyes popped out of his sockets as he clutched the papers into his hands and found his name printed on them.

“You can’t be serious!” Vikram shouted throwing the paper halfway across the room.

“I am very much serious, Vikram”, Guddan responded as she went and picked the papers.

Akshat couldn’t believe that Guddan was standing against Vikram, by his side. He had never in his wildest dreams hoped that she will choose him over Vikram, her love.

“Look guddan, you don’t have to do this anymore. You don’t have to force yourself now that I’m back”, He turned to her, his voice desperate.

“You are right Vikram but I never forced myself. No one in this family did. Time has changed and so have my priorities! I am no more Guddan Rawat but Guddan Akshat Jindal, the saas of this house. And these people are my family now. I don’t think I can bear to separate from them now”.

The bahus smiled as Guddan looked at them. All was not lost yet.

“Guddan tum….you are very emotional!” Vikram tried to make her understand, “You are always looking out for others, keeping them first…that’s where your innocence spells your downfall. Chalo, maan lete hain ki you’ve come to love this family but then what about you?! You obviously are not in love with this man! You love me! Your Vikram!” Vikram stressed catching her by the shoulders.

At this Guddan went quiet making Vikram stumble back in shock.

“It can’t be!You…with this man!?” Vikram stammered pointing an accusing finger at Akshat.

Guddan sighed and took a step towards him, “Things have changed Vikram. If you would’ve come 9 months back or had I never gotten married to him, I would’ve rushed into your arms never to leave them again. I loved you a lot, I mourned you and I would have continued to had he not stepped into my life”, Guddan glanced at Akshat.

“Akshat Ji ke saath ne mujhe jeena sikha diya. I could’ve never imagined being this much happy after your uneventful exit from my life but his mere presence brightened me up.I loved you Vikram and I still do but that intensity…it’s not there….I….”

“But then y-you were so happy to s-see me!?” Vikram cut her off, his voice breaking.

“I- I am happy to see you back. You were and still are very important me. You are my first love.Nothing will ever change that. Times spent with you can never be forgotten or exchanged for anything. Hamari family aaj bhi ek hi hai. Chutki is still your sister and you will still be maa’s son but we can’t be partners anymore because my better half is right there”, Guddan pointed to Akshat, his heart swelling up with pride.

Vikram wiped his face in sheer disbelief.

“I am not very convinced about what you mean. I don’t understand ki tumhe mujhse pyaar hai ya nhi, Akshat Jindal se pyaar hai ya nhi but I know one thing that I love you the most in this world”, And with this Vikram took Guddan’s hands in his, “And as far as my understanding goes, you should live your life with someone who loves you. My love for you will never wither away even if you don’t feel the same anymore. Jis insaan ke liye tum mujhe thukra rahi ho, does he love you?”

At this, Guddan and Akshat looked at each other.

“Do you, Akshat Ji?”Guddan asked as Akshat stood stiff not knowing what to do.

“Keh de lalla!”

“Say it AJ!”

“Rok lijiye Guddan maa ko!”

“What are you waiting for, Bhai?”

“This is the moment to confess Jiju!”

“Kar dijiye apne pyaar ka izhaar, damad ji!”

Shouts of support rang all across the hall but what caught both AJ’s and Vikram’s attention was Bhushan and Revati’s encouragement.

“Aap log bhi!” Vikram scoffed disappointed.

“Bhaiya, who are we to stop di from getting her share of happiness?” Revati spoke up softly as Akshat took in a deep breath and approached Vikram and Guddan.

“Yes, I do love Guddan. A lot. Itna ki it can’t be explained in words. Haan, Guddan mera pehla pyaar nahi hai, par mera wo pehla ehsaas hai jisne mujhe apne liye jeena sikhaya. Unlike you, maybe I am not compatible with her but we are two halves of a puzzle that become complete with each other”.

“Is that so?! If you love her so much than let her go because obviously she is disregarding her feelings to prioritize yours!” Vikram pointed enraged.

Akshat smiled, “I won’t deny that. It most probably is the truth. But I love her enough to believe on her decisions, to show faith in her belief. I love her enough not to let her go. Main usse itna chahta hoon ki hamesha uske saath chalna chahta hu.Ye janta hu ki uske liye tum jitna behtar nhi hoon, par uske liye best bankar dikhana chahta hoon. If she is willing to give my love a chance, I’ll give myself a second chance too!”

Vikram looked at Akshat and found sincerity swimming in his eyes. As his eyes shifted to Guddan, her attention was focused on Akshat. Vikram sighed in defeat and took the papers from Guddan’s hand.

“Yours and my happiness have never been different. In case, you ever come to regret your decision, I’ll be right around the corner, waiting for you…” He patted her cheek as she smiled, her eyes misty with unshed tears, “Keep her happy!”

Akshat nodded as Vikram walked out of Jindal bhavan.

“Why did you refuse Vikram, Guddan?” Akshat asked turning to Guddan. He was confused.

“Because that was the right decision. That moment when I saw Vikram I forgot everything but when I saw your ashened face as I walked out of the house accompanying Vikram, a strange unnerving feeling gripped me. I can’t put it in words but even though I was happy to be with Vikram, that happiness felt incomplete with you not by my side. I knew I had to choose and even though, I was drifting to Vikram’s side, something really sturdy had me tied to your side, I don’t know what it is. Chahkar bhi main Vikram ko chun nhi payi. And then I realized, jis pyaar ko kabhi main aankh band karke chun sakti thi, aaj usi pyaar ko lekar ek ajeeb si uljhan thi. Darr tha ki kahin main galat choice na kar lu. And then it dawned on me, that your presence in my life had changed things. Vikram who was once above all for me, had now become a mere option. All because of you. And so, maine aapko chun liya Akshat ji,maine apna aaj chun liya”, Guddan replied quelling Akshat’s doubts.

She was not in love with him. Right now. But slowly and steadily she was approaching that point.He had managed to make himself stand as a choice against Vikram. Uska pyaar mukammal ho raha hai!

“But I am veeery upset with you Akshat Ji?” Guddan complained, pouting.

“What? Why? What did I do?” Akshat defended himself.

“Exactly my point!You did NOTHING! You didn’t for once try to stop me from leaving. Didn’t even leave a missed call?!”

“ A-about that…I just thought that doctor has suggested to keep Vikram away from stress and then you…didn’t really…” Akshat stammered.

“I didn’t what,Akshat Ji?!” Guddan repeated irritated, “Duniya ki saari understanding ka tender aapne uthaya hai?! Did I say that we have to hide the truth from Vikram?! Then what was the need to act all daanveer types! And I didn’t really STOP?! Is that what you mean?! But you didn’t try to! I was so sure you were brimming with attacks of happiness seeing me leave your life for good! You were soo goddamn understanding that I couldn’t help but misunderstand you!”

“And that day when you came home, first of all you didn’t bother to inform me. Was I supposed to have dreams informing me about your arrival?!” Guddan asked crossing her hands under her chest and continued, “And as soon as Revati told me about your arrival, I friggin raced out of my room but you left in such a rush that you didn’t even pay heed to me as I ran after you shouting my guts out!”

“T-That was…”Akshat reminisced Vikram and Guddan getting closer.

Guddan slapped her forehead exasperated, “Nothing happened . Vikram did try to kiss me but I didn’t let him. You should have a little faith in your wife, no?! Apne pyaar par hi bharosa kar lete! But you had to jump to conclusions!”

“But I thought that since Vikram is back…”

“That didn’t change the fact that you are my husband. I value relations a lot, Akshat Ji! I would never dream of being intimate with another one when I have a husband, even if that another one is somehow still the legal one! What do you take me for- an infidelity specialist?!” Guddan narrowed her eyes at him offended.

While Akshat had his lips pursed shut. She was in her blast mode. He’d prefer to keep her timer from going off rather than being blown to smithereens when he had just confessed his love to her.

“Are your lips sealed by feviquick?! How was I ever supposed to know that you have lovey-dovey feelings for me?! Did you ever express it?! Vo toh acha hai ki I understand you well and could make out that something was off when you had started to act all softy and googly eyes with me!”

Akshat flushed red with embarrassment at her insinuations while Revati and bahus snickered in unison.

“And even right now,were you perhaps waiting for an auspicious time to announce itself that this is the moment when you confess your love! Matlab, if it would have been left to your devices, you would have continued to stand like a statue gripped with rigor mortis confirming Vikram’s stupid suspicions that you are no good for me!”

Guddan looked at him for a response but none came. Gosh! He was the only man to be ever born who could manage to get under her thick crocodile skin!!

“All men are pig heads! And yours specially is of a superior quality!” Guddan growled between clenched teeth as she went on to sit on her knees in front of him.

Akshat looked at her confused while everyone around them smiled. Akshat was troubled. Was she going to pull his feet?! Or pinch him real hard?! Because she was super pissed.Period.

Guddan could read the exact questions, flashing brightly on his face. Agh! Her husband was annoying her with those clueless expressions! Control Guddan, Control!

“Aise mat ghooriye! Aap safe hain…filhaal toh”, Guddan spoke up while Akshat gulped making her chuckle.

Taking his hand, she signaled Revati who opened the box in her hands to reveal Akshat’s engagement ring.

“That day engagement had to be abandoned halfway. And this ring can’t be gifted to someone else since your fingers are the only size, made on order. What I mean to say is, the question that you should have asked me considering the vast expanse of love you’ve stored inside your heart, is going to be popped to you by the woman you love. Rejoice Akshat Ji!” Guddan smirked her trademark grin as Akshat smiled.Things never went the traditional way with them. It felt like she was doing him a big favour! So Guddan-ish!

“Will you marry me,Akshat Ji?! And give yourself the honor of being called such a happening woman’s husband?” Guddan asked as Akshat nodded with a smile and she slipped the ring into his finger.

Dropping to his knees, he took her in a embrace while mouthing, “I’d love to! To be yours for all eternity!”

SO HOW WAS IT?

I TRIED MY LEVEL BEST TO JUSTIFY GUDDAN LEAVING VIKRAM. And I do strongly believe- that love is important but family has no comparison.

The dialogues of Guddan while good explaining Vikram her reason to choose Akshat over him was superb

Vikram was good he understood Guddan's decision and respectful accepted it
