The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Dwitiya (TGILCD) might be over, but Rauf Lala, the winner from Pakistan still can't believe he's been crowned the New Laughter Challenge Champion. Defeating seven other contestants, Lala emerged a clear favourite with both the judges as well as the audiences, who voted for him. Riding now on the wave of popularity and newfound success, Rauf Lala talks to us about himself, his journey so far and his future plans.

Why did you enter the Laughter Challenge?
The Laughter Challenge Season 1 was a great watch. Although it is not officially aired in Pakistan, we got a lot of pirated links and CD's. I was very impressed with the appreciation stand-up comedians received in India. When entries for Season 2 were invited, I simply knew that I wanted to be a part of it. I have also travelled across the globe doing several shows. India was the only place that I had never visited. Consequently, this was a great opportunity for me that I knew I couldn't miss.

Did you expect to win?
Not at all! I participated with the intention of entertaining the audience especially Indian spectators since we are neighbours. I came to make people laugh. I never thought that I'd actually win in the end! When I decided to participate, I didn't do it with the intention of winning the Laughter Challenge.

Where did you get your inspiration from?
I have been associated with theatre, scriptwriting and comedy since 25 years. My greatest inspiration has been Omar Sharif with whom I've had the privilege of working. I also admire Mehmood Sahib, immeasurably. I get an absolute high when there is an energetic audience who understands and reacts to my jokes.

How was the experience on the Laughter Challenge?
It has been the most amazing experience of my life. It's something that I will always treasure. I came here as an unknown participant but will be going away as a personality, icon and a person with many friends! I have also learnt a lot from Shekhar Saab and Siddhu Saab who have given me so much of love. They were my best critics.

Was there fierce rivalry between the contestants?
Not at all. The atmosphere was very calm and humorous. There were no tantrums. Instead, there was a lot of harmony amongst us. We were like brothers who were having a gala time in each other's company. Shooting for TGILCD was a blast.

Do you wish to enter Bollywood?
There have been a few offers, which I am still considering. I haven't made up my mind yet. Films in India would be great to do. I'm still giving it some thought.

What are your future plans?
The future lays in the hands of God...May he bless everyone with happiness. I look forward to returning to Pakistan and making my country proud. I will continue acting and doing stage shows. Comedy will always remain my first love.

Which is the funniest joke you've ever said?
Once Tarzan was roaming in the jungle, when he found a dead leopard. He clapped his hands in glee and remarked, 'Wow that's my new underwear!'
