Hi everyone, I am Rimjhim, a silent member of this forum for a long time, who has decided to speak up due to the level frustration generated by this damn show. So, with the latest accident track I was wondering how nice it would be if both VP died in the accident and a new male lead was brought in for Sai. (I know it will never happen). So I decided to write a version of the story but only a part of it, where after the accident Sai and Vinu form a strong bond.

Please forgive my mistakes as I wrote something fictional after about 5.5 years gap. I hope you like this One shot and would like to read your views. I am not aware who all I should tag so if someone helped me out with tagging and stuff it would be really great. Love to all the members, and here goes the story.

PS.- It's not proofread so sorry for the punctuation mistakes. IF somehow has gobbled up many spaces between the words (The new format sucks and I am not used to it really, considering I used IF regularly about 6 years ago) I will fix the space issues asap. Happy reading friends!

Fate- A SaiVinu OS

Sai woke up from her sleep sweating profusely. It felt so real this time, as if she was right back to where it happened. The place, the weather, everything was just the same. Shea moment to catch her breath and drank some water. Her body was still shivering, feeling the aftermath of the scenes that played in her mind. She laid back and turned to her side. Seeing her little angels sleep soundly was a bit calming. Their even breathing pattern slowed down her breathing. She watched them and went back to that fateful day.

It has been six months, six months of being a widow and a single mother of two young children. Sometimes she wonders, how did she end up here? Was it her fate? Destiny? Or just bad luck? She does not know, but she does not even try to find the answers to these questions. All she knows is that she is responsible for two lives that depend on her. And she will keep fighting the world to keep them safe and happy.

Sai still finds it difficult to believe that Virat is no more. The fact that Savi lost her Baba as soon as she got him brings out another level of sadness. On the other hand, it was way more difficult for Vinu, who lost both of his parents. The poor child was raised in an orphanage and now was orphaned again when he lost both his Baba and Mumma. Sai never thought that this is how she would get her son back, in this form. But maybe fate has different plans.

Sai remembers so vividly how Virat ran inside the bus to bring out Patralekha, who was still inside, lying unconscious. No one knows how the next moments just passed by, but one moment the bus was on top of the cliff, with Virat and Patralekha inside, and the next, it tumbled down down the hill, blasting into a huge fire moments after it landed at the pit. The explosion was so loud and flashy that Sai had to stand in front of the kids to hide them from the event. Nonetheless, they were able to understand whatever was going on.

The search party tried for a week, but all they found was a severed female hand, presumably Patralekha’s, and bits and pieces of their clothing. The bus explosion was triggered by a faulty engine catching fire which caused the oil tank to blast, ripping apart the two of them. This major event had brought down a shadow on the whole of Chavan family, who had already lost of their sons. Virat dying, along with with their favourite daughter-in-law was painful, to say the least.

However, the one who was mostly affected was Vinu. Savi had her Aai, but Vinu lost everything. The boy did not utter a single word for a week after this incident. He did not cry asingle tear and refused to eat or drink anything and Ashwini had to force him to eat something. He would sit in his room silently and look out of the window. Sai was too busy dealing with Savi, who was inconsolable after losing her father. She thought he had everyone in the family to look after him, unlikeSavi, who just had her and Usha Mausi. It was when she saw Vinu at her doorstep that she realized it was not the case.

The first word he uttered in ten days was “Aunty”. Sai had hugged him tightly, scared, and worried how a kid so young just came on his own, how he could have been hurt or worse, been in yet another accident. How so many things could go wrong. The moment Vinu was in her arms, he started to sniffle, which turned into a full-fledged wailing within few moments. Sai could not understand what had prompted him to come to her house alone, so she called up Ashwini to find out the same.

Usually, Sai avoided theChavans like plague. They were quick to blame that Sai was the one who broughtbad luck to their home and now because of her two men and a daughter-in-lawwere dead in the same family. Sai did not even try to correct or fight backagainst their low mentality. For her, Savi’s well-being was much more importantthan getting into any argument. She had finally learnt to pick her fights.Calling Ashwini, thus, was something she did not want to but had to for Vinu’ssake. But what she heard there was not just heartbreaking but the final nail tothe coffin for Sai to make her next decision.

“Aunty” Sai was startledby Vinu’s voice, who had woken up and stared at her innocently. Her heartalways melted at the sight of this kid, her Vinu would have been almost hisage, had he been alive. She smiled faintly and spoke, “Haan beta, bolo, kyahua?” Vinu blinked and softly said, “Bhook lagi hai.”

Sai sat up and smiledagain, “Ruko beta, main tuhare liye kuch banake laati hoon, tum yehi Savi kepaas raho, main aayi.” As she got up from the bed, Vinu pulled on her gown,“Nahi, main bhi chalta hoon aapke saath.” Sai did not deny his wish and Vinufollowed her to the kitchen where she started to prepare a banana smoothie forhim, while he sat on the counter. As she worked, he asked, “Aap jaage huye kyunthe? Aapko firse sapna aaya?”

Sai stopped working andstared at him with surprise, “Tumhein kaise pata beta?”

Vinu shruggednonchalantly, “Maine dekha hai kabhi kabhi aapko, neend mein Savi ya Vinu yaVirat bolte huye. Aap thora disturb hoti ho sleep mein, fir dheere dheere sobhi jaati ho firse. Jab main Baba ke ghar mein tha tab mujhe bhi aise sapneaate the, bad bad, jismein mumma aur Baba mujhe chhorke ja rahe hai.” He lookeddown sadly, so that Sai doesn’t see the tears that welled up in his eye.

Sai’s heart wrenched withpain, why is a kid so small suffering this trauma. She put a hand beneath hischin and made him look at her, “Bohot yaad aati hai na, mumma Baba ki?” Vinunodded sadly, then looked at her, “Aapke bhi to mumma Baba nahi hai, aapko unkiyaad nahi aati?” Sai ran her hand on his cheek to wipe the tears that his smalleyes could not hold, “Aati hai beta, bohot sad bhi lagta hai, but main unke johappy memories hai who sochti hoon, and yeh bhi sochti hoon ki agar who aaj yehdekhenge ki main apne dono baccho ke saath sahi salamat safe hoon, who bhikhush honge, haina?”

Vinu’s face lit up withhope, “Matlab main bhi aapke aur Savi ke saath hoon dekhkar Mumma Baba khushonge, who bhi happy feel karenge ki main aapke paas safely rehta hoon, haina?”Sai nodded slowly, not wanting to break this little child’s heart anymore.

She could never forgetthe amount of rage she felt when she heard a bawling Ashwini recall why Vinuleft the house. Bhavani, blinded by the grief and rage of losing Virat andPatralekha, had started to take out her anger on Vinu, calling him an orphanwho brought bad luck to the family and was only tolerated because Virat wasthere. Now he is gone, Vinu should also be thrown out, because Bhavani NageshChavan does not cater to the likes of low-class people, let alone people who donot even know whose blood is coursing through their veins. Vinu wasshellshocked as he saw his Badi Aaji stomping towards him in a scary manner. Hehid behind his Aaji and for the first time in his life he felt helpless. Therewas no one who could save him from the wrath of his Badi Aaji as she threw himout of the house on the sidewalk.

Ninad and Ashwini criedand tried to pacify Bhavani but no one came to rbing him inside. When hefinally realized that Baba is no more to protect him, he went to the only heknew would protect and accept him no matter what. With a lot of courage and abeating heart Vinu started walking towards his doctor Aunty’s house.

Bhavani had neverexpected that Sai would barge in the with police. As she decended the stairsshe could hear Sai screaming, “Bhavani Chavan bahar niklo.” Even worse, whenthe lady constable put handcuffs on her, Sai looked like she would put a knifeon her chest right there. Bhavani had never seen her in such a raging avatar, and for the first time ever, she felt scared of Sai.

Seeing Vinu’s distraughtstate and Ashwini explaining what had happened was enough for Sai to decidewhat to do next. With a restraining order and arrest warrant against Bhavani, she barged into the house with the DIG and lady constables. The arrest warrantcontained Bhavani’s crimes against her own daughter and Pulkit, Harini, abusingan underage child and being accomplice to Patralekha’s illegal surrogacy.

When the police weretaking her away, Sai stopped them and spoke with the highest level of hatredshe had for this woman, “Ek baat kaan khol ke sun lijiye Bhavani Chavan, issbaar main chup nahi rahungi. Bohot ho gaya aap sab ki gunda gardi. Ab kanunbolega aur aap sab se ek ek karke main saari badtameezi ki hisaab kitabkarungi. Bharpai toh aapko karni padegi, who bhi kishto mein.” Seeing Sai likethis scared all of the Chavans.

Bhavani had to spend twoweeks in jail before Sai took her cases back. It was Ninad who had to beg herto do so. He requested her to understand that Bhavani was old and could notsurvive, and this case would destroy anything left in their lives. Ninad wasthe only one who could talk to Sai without her erupting into a raging motherwho would strike down anyone who tried to harm her kids, now Vinayak included.Although she took the case back, the restraining order still prevailed. Sai hadmade sure that this time she does everything legally and without any loopholes.

As a result, two weeks ago, Sai legally adopted Vinayak as her son and now none of the Chavans couldbe in touch with him without her presence, according to the court order. Thejudge did not take the matter of child abuse lightly, and Sai’s relationshipwith the DIG helped matters escalate smoothly. The only people who ever came tomeet both Vinayak and Savi were Ashwini and Ninad, for the others, the three ofthem were as good as dead.

“Aapko Baba ki yaad nahiaati Aunty?” Vinu’s question broke Sai’s chain of thoughts. “Kya?” shestuttered. Vinu asked innocently, “Aap aur Baba itne close friends the, eksaathSavi ke parents bhi the, aap unko miss nahi karti? Aapke to yaha aur dost bhinahi hai.”

Sai wonderedthoughtfully; does she miss Virat? Amidst the entire accident and Vinu’s traumaand adoption, no one really asked her how she felt at the death of the love ofher life, or should she say just father of her child? These past few months,Sai was so busy trying to get Vinu to talk and improve the condition of Saviand Vinu that she never thought about it. She got a new job at Nagpur MedicalCollege where she studied herself, so her entire day starts with dropping thekids at school, working at the hospital, and then in the evening after her dutyhours are over, she spends her free time with her kids, teaching them, playingwith them and making sure that they know that they are loved.

But, how is she copingup? While the accident was indeed traumatic, as it brought up memories of howshe lost her own Vinu, it hurt more to lose to Virat again. Granted he neverreally was hers, but he had been the only she in her life, the only man sheever loved and the father of her child. She wondered, should she call herself awidow, considering Patralekha was his wife when they died together? But then,Sai never really got divorced, so was theirs even a legal marriage? She knewthey were all futile question, even if Virat was her husband, he passed away, meaning Sai must move on from their marital relation and live her own life. Shehad done it once; she could do it again.

She smiled faintly, “Kartihoon na beta, jaisa ki aapne kaha, Virat mere eklaute dost the Nagpur mein, butab main unhe sirf happy memories mien yaad karti hoon. Aapki race, humari panipuri party, main sirf smile karke unhe yaad karna chahungi. Aapke Baba bhi nahichahenge na ki koi unko sad sad rote rote yaad kare?”

“Lekin agar mujhe ronaaaye toh main kya karun aunty?” Vinu asked sadly. Sai feels so heartbroken forthis kid, he lost his parents not ocne but twice, and who better couldunderstand the pain of losing your father or mother but herself? Sai pulled himagainst her and hugged him, “Toh aap ro lena, rona koi buri baat thore hi hai.Jab bhi rona aaye dil kholke rona, use man halka hota hai. Par kabhi bhi apneandar apni sadness ko daba ke mat rakhna beta, use na sirf who sadness badhti rahegi.Hum jab humaare apno se aisi sad sad baatein share karte hai toh we feel goodbecause humaari family humein samajhti hai. Agar hum share nahi karenge tosadness jayegi nahi.”

Vinu sniffled softly. Hewas so lost after Baba was gone, no one cared for him the way his parents did.Aaji did try to feed him but at the end of the day he did not feel the warmthfrom any one like he did from his Baba or now, from Doctor Aunty. Mustering upsome courage he finally looked up at Sai, and softly asked, “Doctor Aunty, kyamain aapko Aai kehke bula sakta hoon?”

Sai was spellbound. Justa few minutes she was comparing him to her Vinu and now he is asking her to behis mother? Is she hearing it correct, or her mind is playing some dirty gamewith her? She was getting scared that this might be a dream, because realityhas never been so good to her.

Vinu became anxious athis Doctor Aunty’s surprised face; did he offend her? But he did not mean to.It was just that he often wondered, what if Savi and him could have the samemother as they had the same father? It wasn’t like he did not love his Mumma, but somewhere he always felt that mumma loved him because Baba did, that waswhy he was closer to Baba than Mumma. But seeing the bond between Savi andDoctor Aunty always made him happy, they were each other’s best friends andalways had each other’s back. He would always think, could he ever have thesame with his mumma, or even Doctor Aunty for that matter? Would she accept him?

Before Vinu could thinkfurther, Sai pulled him back into her arms. Here she was, getting her son back, maybe in some other way. One bus accident took half of her heart while anotherone gave it back to her in the form of Vinayak, the one she held so close toher heart. She could not stop her tears, the burden of keeping everythinginside finally releasing itself.

“Zaroor beta, maintumhari Aai hi toh hoon. Mera beta, humesha main Aai rahungi tumhari” Sai spokewith great difficulty as her voice kept getting choked up with tears. Vinucried seeing her like this, he knows that Doctor Aunty, or rather his Aai, istoo alone in her life, and now with her only friend gone, she might also befeeling lost somewhere, just like him. Maybe that is why she murmurs Baba’sname sometimes when she has her bad dreams, but she never lets it out in frontof him and Savi.

“Aai, ab aapko bhi jabbura feel ho ya sad lage, aap mere saath share karna, ab main hoon na, mainaapko protect karunga aur aapka aur Savi ka pura dhyan rakhunga. After all I amVinayak Chavan Joshi, main bhi bohot strong hoon, haina?” Vinu stroked Sai’s armsas he wiped his own tears. Sai couldn’t help but see a little reflection ofVirat in him, the protective nature, the tendency to take up all sorts ofresponsibilities, it was all him. She patted his head, “Aur tumhare liyetumhari aur tumhari behen hai na? Hum saath rahenge, ek dusre ka khayalrakhenge aur kabhi bhi saath nahi chorenge ek dusre ka, okay beta?”

Vinu was beaming with happiness,if only Baba was here to witness him. Maybe he is there somewhere in the stars, looking down upon him and blessing him and his family with lots of love. At leasthe was with someone who wanted him in his life, unlike Badi Aaji or any of theother Chavan people.

Sai smiled at Vinu as he finishedthe smoothie quickly and proceeded to tuck him back into the bed. Maybe, fate wasnot meant to bring Virat back to her, maybe he was always meant to be theperson who gives her a child. Maybe these children are why fate brought themtogether, only to pull them apart every time. It has been for the good, she hasalways been at peace whenever there was Virat’s absence in her life. Every timehe came back, he only wreaked havoc.

His death did break apart of her heart, considering his contribution to all the good, bad, and worstin her life, but it was easier to move on from that trauma. Virat died for her theday he failed to take a stand for his wife, his legal wife, Sai. Him marrying Patralekhajust made it more comfortable for Sai to remember that he was never hers. So,she promised herself not to grieve over someone who was not bothered by her ownpresumed death. She will only remember the very few fond memories they createdtogether, only to stop herself from hating the man these children know as theirfather. She wouldn’t want to taint the image of their hero.

She looked at the sky from the open window in the room, and made a silent promise to Virat to take careof both of his children, their children. She may never be able to forgive himor Patralekha for destroying her life, and keeping Savi’s life half-empty, butshe will make sure that she gives a much better life to both her children. And she will.
