Only after 2nd accident, he completely let the decision to her. That transition was also shown beautifully. Thats why I said he went through all phases in his love. Sai is going through what all he went through but everything suddenly.

All outbursts on her after vasanth panchami is the result of his expectations on her. He wanted to control her in a way that she receives less flak from the family. Also, he was showing signs of getting restless when she deprioritizes him. Pulkit kaand, I know he was worried and concerned for her but the fight escalated to their marriage and promises. He was making her feel indebted to him for the marriage and all. It is like he was forcing her to love/accept him, because he did something good for her. It is a very selfish way but he was desperate to get into her good books. Later when he was calmer and broke down, he asked her to consider him as a family. You see his expectations only increased from there (amey and aniket incidents) and his worst form of control is post anniversary fiasco when he was not only rejected but was insulted. He was clearly punishing her with his neglect.

Only after her second acccident recently, he put Sai beyond his love. He kind of went beyond himself and his feelings and proiritized Sai's feelings. He was not expecting anything in return from her. Remember in friendship phase he said he would happily remain her friend if that is what she wants from him. so his love has seen full transition from being selfish to selfless.

This was so beautiful.. Extremely heartfelt, for a moment you did what the recent scenes between Virat and Sai have not been able to make me do...Wanted me to get back to Ghum land...

Honestly Sadhika, I am over the two..I cannot ship Virat with Sai anymore.. But keeping it all aside, this was such a brilliant writeup. You made me witness a beautiful journey, through your words. Makers do not unfortunately, think and write that way.

I was grazing around initial episodes like many of us to escape from this track! If you see the whole picture, the makers did bring the nuances in their relationship very nicely. Virat's realization of what Sai means to him, was SOOO beautiful. Be it Neil's acting or writing they gave shows an amazing progression....I will explain what I have seen/understood below. Similarly, they are taking time to show Sai's realization also..I will try to capture that also here.

But WOW the initial episodes are really pleasure to watch...I have'nt seen KD during initial episodes so it was even more beautiful to see it happening purely from Sai's and Virat's stand point but not from Rono and Emon.

I believe that Virat had a liking for Sai from GC days. Not love but liking towards a girl who is smart and confident and who loved her father to bits. Who is very honest and brave. He admired her and felt protective as a natural instinct because she is his Guru's daughter! So when the moment came to marry her, only his fresh Vaada was the obstruction. Sai admired him too though not openly. From her dad, she always heard his accomplishments. She saw him rescuing her and all. Everybody around her praised him. She might have had a crush on him but not love for sure. It is kind of like this, if after few years KJ proposed her marriage to Virat, she would have agreed. She was in that zone, like if given a choice she would have chosen him. That was their mindspace before their marriage.

I will put virat's feelings for sai in red (passion) and his feelings for pakhi in blue (regret) and Sai's feelings for him in pink(budding). So while reading try to put them side by side to see their mindstate. I numbered the milestones.

1.

Virat was protective of Sai and hence married her to provide safety and security, he did think their marriage has an expirty date.

Still had feelings for Pakhi, the girl he thought he fell in love and hence could not love anyone else. To prove his love for her and to express his obligation of marrying Sai, he invited Pakhi to his wedding.

Sai was NOT hoping that the marriage would be a deal. She is a smart kid. But Virat ruined it by bringing up the commitment. She was clearly taken aback! But she played along because she had no choice (given)

2.

Virat is mature enough to know that any marriage IS a commitment so at the back of his head, he was constantly evaluating the merits of Sai as CN bahu. Because the first night in CN he discusses about her rights and acceptance in the house with sunny and asks Pakhi to train her! He was clearly 'evaluating' about this marriage. Assume a normal arranged marriage scenario here. He was in that zone. If he did think marriage is a deal, why does he want Sai's accpetance/rights in the family? So this might be because he was hopeful it will work. Marriage is not something that can be broken just like that. He was practical too.

Eventhough he did not have romantic feelings for Pakhi after her marriage, he did feel guilty after Samrat left. He was making her feel good by doing dosti jaap. He knows she was hurt. But he did not know she might be harboring romantic feelings for him. One biggest mistake of Virat which is very human also is that he projects his mindset on others. He thinks he is making an effort to forget their past so he assumes Pakhi is doing the same. Also, he had high regards for her at that time. So he went ahead and asked her to train Sai hoping that being 'like' pakhi will win some warmth in his family. We can safely say he still liked her as a girl he fell for but controlled his romantic feelings, you know he made sincere efforts to forget his past.

Sai was just taking one day at a time, but deal was not playing with her as much as her marriage and new atmosphere is. She was like any new bride in an arranged marriage.

3.

He stood by Sai as a friend and supporter during the rituals and name changing events. He wanted to show her that she can trust him. It was still platonic. But why did he follow through all the rituals diligently? He did commit to this marriage, even though he doesn't know completely yet how Sai will fit in.

Virat was focussing less on Pakhi day by day. He still cared for her wellbeing. He knows Pakhi will be upset with the rituals and all. He is sensitive in the way that he cant ignore her past feelings for him. But he thinks she is trying to move on just like he does. So he was showing more to her that he is there as a friend but also maintaining distance to show her that he is moving on. He was oblivious to her presence during all the rituals.

Sai is a beauty in this phase. She forgets about the deal, fully trying to be a wife. She gets upset on Pakhi which is very natural. She shoes her off very confidently. She kind of brings up the deal in a lighter way when Virat questions her behavior. She used deal word playfully so to say. If Virat had just not prioritized Pakhi over her in these days, their story would have taken an easy turn!

Virat observes Sai doesnt fit in the family due to her nature. The way she talks mostly. He knows she is a kind girl at heart but he doesn't like the way she talks or handles the situation. He starts to think about the marriage seriously in long term but doesn't see Sai a right fit in the family. He is getting irritated by her behavior and at the same time he knows she is a good girl. You see there are dynamics of 'roommates' playing here. He was finding it difficult to share his room with someone who is getting on his nerves. The daily complaints are becoming irritating for him to deal with and in that phase his job goes under risk for marrying this girl. He momentarily questions his decision! He would not have questioned his decision if Sai was little calmer. We can clearly see his struggle. He is still protective of her, he still likes her, wants to work it out with her but this girl was driving him crazy.

Pakhi was still there in his mind at some corner, not as a lover but a missed opportunity. Afterall she was roaming around the house and pretending to be nice to the family. He fell for her for that exact same reason that she will be good fit for his family. Now he has made a sacrifice giving her up, and taking up responsibility of someone who now completely looks opposite of what he envisioned as his wife. So there is a struggle in his mind. It is only human. And that too when that decision of marriage is costing his job. For a moment, here he did talk with regret (Mistake 1) in marrying Sai. In this entire struggle, he could not detect that Pakhi too has gained some control on his mind.

Sai really tried to fit in the family here. She was still seeing a future with this man. I am surprised she was not using as much deal word those days. Then on that night of DIG incident, she laid foundation for her fort. It was heartbreaking to see herself as a regret. I think till then Sai was his wife, but after this incident she started to feel less of his wife. She saw the Virat - Pakhi dynamics for the first time in a different light. It is something that is not going to go away just by ignoring it. This is also when Sai saw Pakhi playing with Virat's mind and Virat 'allowing' it. Why is he allowing it when he doesnt have any feelings for Pakhi? By extention, he does have feelings for her. thats her conclusion and it has grown only stronger from there, much thanks to Virat himself.

5.

DIG incident is a turning point in Virat's love for Sai. It can be the seeding moment where he saw her as someone standing by him as a partner. Till then she was just a good human for him. But that moment, he saw as his life partner who could be understanding and mature. Or we could say, he learnt to see her through different lens and understand her beyond her words. He was still not sure whether he could see her as his wife owing to her age I guess, but definitely was thinking long term. During the night of DIG incident, he did start his first move towards Sai by asking if she feels bad when he talks to Pakhi. Beautiful scene that is! It is a deliberate question from his side to test waters. Sai obviously, took a pause and said NO. Beautifully enacted by both. Sai's pause confirming that it hurts when he tries to talk to Pakhi and Virat's slight disappointment when she said NO. If he is not serious about his marriage at this point, why would he bring this question? DIG track is indeed the first seed of love for Virat.

I think Virat never compared Pakhi and Sai as such, but must have contemplated Pakhi being a better life partner for him but that changed after DIG incident. He never had romantic feeling for Pakhi after her marriage, but he truly turned into 'only' friend mode from here on. He was not checking on her constantly also. His thoughts are occupied with Sai more. Pakhi was taking back seat from here on.

Sai had her first set back here, but it was not so strong to hold her back either. She did think the outburst was more because of job. She was back to being his wife, serving him at dining table and involving him in her discussions till the BIGGEST mistake from Virat happened.

"Pyarosti' slip up is the BIGGEST mistake Virat could ever do after the commitment talk. If you see that scene again there was a verbal dual (jugalbandi I would say for its sheer beauty) between the two. Virat was upset Pakhi left. He had guilt and 'good' feelings for her. He was in protective mode for Pakhi. And here Sai could be the reason that she left. If you observe how the fight started, Virat was questioning Sai about her insecurity with Virat and Pakhi dynamics. He was indeed hellbent on knowing that Sai does feel something here. But when Sai denies it, he takes a different turn. He sounded so confusing as his emotions. He wants Sai to say it makes a difference for her to see them close. At the same time, he wanted to drive the point home that Pakhi's leaving is not something he can deal with now because of his guilt. In the process of that argument, and while explaining the meaning of loving someone, he made the slip up. It was a genuine slip up. At that point of time, he was clearly over Pakhi except for the guilt. But the fight and verbal dual pulled something else out of his mouth. He was quick to cover it up. But the damage was done.

Virat's feelings for Pakhi are debatable in this track. He did feel bad that Pakhi left. For him, Pakhi has to be in the house to validate his decision of marrying her off to samrat. If she leaves, it means that his decision was proven wrong before it had a chance to be proven otherwise. If Samrat comes back and Pakhi gives him a chance, his decision would prove right. He will be finally free from the guilt. That is why Pakhi's departure here made so much difference to him. Not that he misses her or he has feelings for her. When he went to persuade her to come back, he did give up in the end. He did not ask anyone to go and beg her to come. Sai took the challenge herself and he let her without hoping anything positive would happen. So he did leave the decision for Pakhi to come back or not. If she hadn't come, he would have been fine, the detail missed by Sai!!

Sai clearly read him wrong. No mistake from her side. I would have understood the same. She thought Virat is upset because he loves her still. So she did the obvious-to bring her back. Why would she do this for him? Go to Pakhi and convince her? Sai does care for Virat, her husband still. May not be love, but the care that comes for the spouse. She was a darling here indeed. Proved that she is always a better person!

Sai bringing Pakhi back is a big push for Virat in seeing Sai for who she is!!! Her selfless attitude and egoless gesture made Virat realize Sai is indeed a gem of a person. For her to go and request Pakhi to come back is no small deed. And Virat knows how difficult it would have been. I think here Virat fell for Sai, the person. His admiration for her returned, this time with full force. No more harsh words or insensitive behavior from her towards him or his family will erase what he had formed of Sai in his mind. We can say Virat doesn't consider anyone else superior to Sai, even himself from this point. That night he truly opened his heart to Sai, nothing was holding him back, not his past nor his vaada. It was an avalanche effect from then onwards. He was just swept away by her from that day. No stopping.

Pakhi was out of his mind completely. He was checking for Sai who made this possible when he returned back home that evening. He was least bothered about Pakhi's return. He was glad she is back but nothing more. That night, I think Pakhi 'the love' was relabeled as Pakhi 'the infatuation' (waqt ka fitoor) . :) His guilt was there still.

Sai started building walls, this incident had completely opposite effect on her. It bolstered her belief that Virat would never love her and hence she would not let her heart fall for this man. It was deliberate move to cover her budding feelings for him with harsh words. Deal took shape in her mind. That word has become her sheild. :( You could see her using it more and more from here on wards.

There was a beautiful scene around this time or around miilestone 6, when they were both in the middle of an ugly fight and Pakhi comes and sympathises with Virat. He was visually in pain and confusion due to a bad head ache and Sai's behavior was driving him crazy but he had already started falling for her. When pakhi says Sai got everything like security, home and education by marrying him but questions him what he had got out of this marriage. Virat looks at Sai and at that moment it appeared like he realized what he really got, he has got Sai! I felt like he would blurt that answer out. :P Pakhi was terrified too so she diverts his attention 😆 Beautiful scene!

After that Virat did whatever he did for Sai, only as her husband. He used farz word unnecessarily which only drove Sai further and further away. But he was doing it all willingly for his wife. Everyday from then he was falling more and more for her. He was in full lover mode, trying to please her, buying her gifts and reveling in her antics. Thats why, that precisely why he would fight with her when she behaved rudely with his family in Amay's incident. He wanted to seriously work it out with her. He wants her to be accepted by his family. He was locked from his side in this marriage, so when she goes against the family or behaves badly with them, he gets anxious, after-all she has to live with them in this family forever!! thats where his outbursts came towards her. He wanted her to 'confirm' to the family. why? Because he wants her to be his wife, living in that family :) He started to control her behavior from here. Typical lover/husband mode he was in, little selfish.

Pakhi turned into just a family member for him. And he was now seeing things which he was not seeing before. Sai's honesty also rubbed on him and he started to see things in Sai's way. He was seeing Pakhi for what she is. His first disappointment came when she failed to support Shivani and next when she did not let Sai eat her breakfast. She was not the person who he thought she is!. The way Pakhi fell in his eyes is also exponential from here because, the more he understood Sai in this phase, the more he understood Pakhi as well. He still had guilt which Pakhi used whenever she sensed Virat is drifting away from her.

Sai's heart falls for Virat whenever he stands by her, be it her studies or other matters where he truly supported her. But she already believed that she cant be his love. So she uses more and more deal word, she keeps saying that her stay is temporary very frequently. Clearly she is feeding herself with this. poor girl. She was agitated when Virat brings ice to Pakhi, that she brings it up a day later. Why? Her heart doesn't want her to let go, but she prepares her mind for it.

9.

Vasanth Panchami is when Virat is fully attracted to Sai as a woman and wife. That Sindoor scene appeared as if he married her once again with full awareness. From here he was fully Sai's, in mind and body. :D This is his complete realization though he doesnt accept it. Holi is when he says he cannot live without her. But it started from here. Virat's love realization is completed here. What we got after that is his frustration that it is not reciprocated till the 2nd accident. Almost losing Sai for the second time, pushed his feelings to new level. Now I see that his love for her is almost unconditional (I dont think it exists in reality but..). He knows he cannot love any one else as he loves her, he knows she is the best person out there and he knows he will have to give her up if she doesn't want him. I think he reached that purest phase in the definition of love. He does flip back to husband mode and will have expectations from her which is human. But he did reach that stage of unconditional love for her, at some point.

Pakhi is not even friend now, we all know. She has become a liability. :D He blesses his stars for the day when his phone broke. thats his state with her.

Sai shut herself up completely after the ousting. But her heart has already fallen for him. She has given the place of her father to him already. She is struggling every day to stay with this man who she thinks cannot love her like wife. Because she sees him only as someone who wants to give a chance to his marriage out of his kindness or obligation. She. is full of love, but did not let that feeling reach to her mind till now. Now when she had an insight that he must also be loving her, she opened the gates of her fort, even to herself. She is shaking with these feelings for him. Hence all that Virat has gone through with her- the possisiveness, jealousy and the fear of losing etc. is engulfing her now. Virat had a slow realization, but for Sai it is like a damn broke open. All her love for him, that she kept hiding even from herself, is now burst open and she could not contain it. Neither her mind is able to process it fully. So it is going to be cathartic for her to deal with current situation.

Whatever SaiRat shared now is only love and friendship. But to stay in a marriage they need trust. So this track is going to be a very big step in that direction.

Note: I felt like writing this today after I started seeing some earlier episodes of Virat's realization. It was almost poetic how he fell for this girl. I am sure writers will give us the best confession looking at the way they have shown Sai's realization from 2nd accident. Just hang in there!

1. He wanted sai to behave like pakhi and be teached by pakhi , not because he wanted a pakhi in her, but for her to be more adjustable to this family.

2. Loved your point that after Sai's accident he has now unconditional love for sai. Before whenever they had fights it was because of his selfishness that sai should accept his love, but when sai almost lost her life due to his selfishness and anger , he has now become selfless in his love for her, although he still fears for that if sai will friendzone him forever, and not see him as a love, but he has left it on her .

3. Now coming to Sai's realisation, exactly after the pyaar dosti track, she stopped having any feelings for him as a lover, but she still said about the husband rights whenever required like for hospital pakhi- sai faceoff, and mahashivratri family faceoff, but this haq went missing after saree drama. That's one of reason she didn't like the anniversary as she felt she don't have any rights on him. After second accident, she started everything fresh, and after the dosti track, she looked at virat from a new angle who has completely got over pakhi. She get the hint that he has feelings for her, that's what she wanted to ask, but he got to a mission. So pakhi roadblock from her mind has been gone and now she is seeing a potential future with her hubby, a family.

This track has a potential for Sai's realisation and also to address the fact that in virat's life she is the only one forever and not just a backup for pakhi.

I felt torn between my two parts. One part of me felt nostalgic and euphoric recalling THAT SaiRat. You took us through this journey.

But the other part of me was feeling so sad ki THAT SaiRat is destroyed. 😭

So I was subdued. But that should not prevent me from expressing how beautiful your post is. It brought out each of the nuances in the SaiRat relationship so wonderfully. Thank you for this post. This post was making me want to re-watch the old episodes and come back to this write-up.

I wish the makers had continued on this path showing us such nuances and replaced each of the abuse tracks with those that is high on angst, anger and even separation. A little toxicity would have been fine too.

For point 1. Yes I meant he wanted her to behave like Pakhi, because she was accepted by the family. Not that he wants a pakhi in her. He accepted her fully with all her quirks.

Yeah the initial episodes brought out their feelings so perfectly. Neil owned them. I still have hopes on Vankar, he had given some best moments so lets see what he will do now.

Thats the beauty of this serial. You may have tracks, high and low, but the trajectory is there.

I think Virat started truly standing up for Sai after his mission wherein he got shot. She was non-committal, trying to be on safe grounds.

Pakhi is self-delusional. How long will she remain like that, Bappa knows.

The rest of the family has allowed her to walk on them.
