Why is this trope the new trend?

I don't see much of ITV but I think recently Many shows have this concept of the Bhabhi liking the Devar. Maybe I am just extrapolating things but it is there in some series.

Is it the new Vampire/werewolf of ITV?

Why is it used in many shows?

I understand the cliches of love triangle, rich guy -poor girl, serious guy and happy go lucky girl.etc etc

But this cliche is something I cannot understand the selling point of it.

The only other show where the makers were successful in forcing Bhabi-Devar troupe was an old Star Plus show Kumkum: Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan.. wherein due to circumstances, the Devar Sumeet had to marry his widowed Bhabi Kumkum to save her from social disgrace due to the groom Vishal and his family cancelling Vishal - Kumkum wedding.

And this show had a successful run for 6 years.. as Sumeet - Kumkum were adored as a couple.. both by the family and the audience.

^I loved watching Sumit Kumkum scenes on YT never knew they were bhabi devar earlier. Another show is that one with Zain and Shrenu, as much as it was disturbing to watch him fall for her they had real good chemistry. Even though she was playing a game with them for revenge, she was married to his brother and was his bhabi for several years. And they just got together at the end after she's reformed. The show didn't run for long, I don't know whether it was Trps or people boycotted against it. SP sure has shown some weird stuff.

In Ghum they refuse to accept they're showing us a love triangle which includes a bhabi and devar, hence they keep shoving the best friends tag on us.

Another show which has the devar bhabhi trope was Ghar Ek Mandir- Ram Kapoor and Gautami Gadgil(his wife) first show. There as well Bhabhi is married to Devar after her husband dies.

But what's different in all these shows were:

1. The bhabhi was a widow

2. The devar was unmarried

3. The family pressurises them to get married

4. They have a legal relation

But non of the above things are valid for Ghum. Here a much married Bhabhi wants to be in a relation with her much married devar

But it was shown that she never actually married the guy so they weren't actually devar bhabhi.
