It has been a while since I have been thinking about who should be blamed? Should we criticise a character or the plot?
I have been watching the show almost since the beginning. I started to participate in discussions in the forum very recently, not even 2 months, since I joined. I was a silent reader initially and I then started to write posts and reply to posts.
I support both the characters and tried to understand the characters. A lot of questions were raised on the characters and I tried to answer them with my understanding. I also used to reply whenever someone had misunderstood the character or a scene. One can call it defending the character, I would like to say that I was sharing my understanding.
Only when there was severe unnecessary bashing, I resolved to defend the character. To my surprise, many tried to see what I had to say. They raised questions and I answered them. I also failed to understand a few things about the characters. I raise questions and people have tried to clarify. If I had a viewpoint and asked why should he or she do it, the person who has a real understanding of the character tried to convey what the character was actually saying or about the character's feelings.
What I follow is that if I am not convinced with something a character does or I am not happy with what the character is doing, I try to make sense from other's viewpoints. Try to look at it from their perspective. I look for answers. Anyone can fail to understand a character or a scene. We wouldn't have looked at a person or a situation from all angles.
Is this not what the forum is about? Get some understanding or try to get others perspectives? Why should one have such a strong belief and not consider other's views or opinions at all? We are all supposed to have a healthy discussion and I am really happy that I have been able to have.
From my understanding, a lot of people are enjoying the forum much more than the show itself. The forum is so much fun. All we should do is not get too harsh on any character, not to mock any character, not to have high expectations from any character.
I understand that it gets frustrating when a character behaves in a way we do not feel is right, but is it about what we feel is right? Shouldn't it be what the character wants or feels? Also, do we have a control over it? It is already written that way, executed in the plot.
I am confused with various things. The writer had sketched all the characters, have come up with a plot.
I notice that the character remains consistent and is in the nature, that they had established but I also notice variations in the character, a swing in the character during different situations.
Who is to be blamed? The character or the plot? When I write OS or Fan fictions, what I realise is that I have an idea in mind and to implement it, I sometimes write a few scenes in such a way that I get what I wanted.
For instance, the writer started it with a main lead for whom duty is most important. He sacrificed his love and had promised that he would never love anyone else in his life. Destiny had some other plans, he had to marry a girl since he had promised to take her responsibility.
Well, in such a small thing that I have mentioned above, actually he had to sacrifice his love and they had to show that he will have some factor to stop him from moving on his life. So they added something called a promise. This promise has always been ridiculed. There was a reason why the promise was added to the plot, only so that the character could marry another girl, but not in real sense. At every point, the plot can be questioned.
The character act as per the plot, who is to be blamed? I blame the character and raise questions why did he have to marry. I blame the character and raise questions as why did his guru not follow orders while they were on a mission.
Well, wherever we are right now in the story, it is only because of all of the above. To some extent, we can challenge or question a character, but to how much? Should we all together, not criticize the plot, how they could have achieved whatever they wanted by maintaining what as right.
I can question why Pakhi agreed to marry Samrat. I can question why Virat had to give a promise or why should he have to marry Sai. I can question why did Sai blame Virat for her father's death. And then the question goes on and on, why does Pakhi always keep looking for Virat's support, why is Virat being a friend to Pakhi, why is Sai not able to see Virat's feelings and why she is not able to reciprocate it. Is there an end to it at all?
They did it for when Virat falls in love with Sai, they can have a barrier named Pakhi and when his feelings are so powerful that the barrier doesn't matter, they can maintain a friction between the couple by Sai continuing to think it only as a deal and failing to understand his feelings.
The way they have achieved need not be the only way to achieve but it is already written. Can we do anything about it?
One can try to be as much logical as possible and this can be achieved very easily when it is an oneshot or a Fan fiction of a few chapters which we also write or update when we find time. The writer of the story would have started with something in mind and would have kept adding tracks and tracks, somewhere ended up in butchering characters, losing logic, losing the whole essence of a character too.
Is it necessary for us to be this harsh on any character? Are we criticising the character or the way the character was written or are we criticising the plot? I am lost. The forum gets filled with criticism as soon as blunders are seen. We are at an advantage because it a remake of a show from another language. Many of us know what is coming.
This doesn't mean that we cannot criticize a character, let's just keep in mind that many things are due to shoddy writing, due to the plot.
We will all fail if we try to look at logic everytime, we can discard a lot of things as shoddy writing, lot of things as illogical, lack of creativity and also discard a few things considering that they are being used as an instrument to gain trp, like the OTT.
Let us all enjoy the show together, criticize the characters and try to understand them together by trying to understand other's viewpoints too, not get too attached to any character that we cannot look at other characters in a good light at all, most importantly, let's all have fun by looking at how certain things are written or executed.
It will be fun when we can laugh about how a certain things that are written. Because I remember, when we watch a show together at home, that is what we all do.
I really like the forum for this reason, I am able to enjoy the show with a wider audience, with lots of friends, having fun discussing the episodes and scenes, coming up with predictions or new scenes. Is this not what this platform for? To be able to enjoy the show together and also to be able to exchange views?
There is no doubt that there is going to be contradictory views, but I think we can all still have healthy discussions and fun together.
Happy viewing all.
P.s This was something I have been thinking about, for a while. Not meant to offend anyone or anyone's views. Just sharing my ithoughts with all the members of this forum.
