Well, in Bangladesh, Alta has nothing to do with being married / unmarried. But it's a part of traditional Bengali get up for women.

Honestly, I believe, if Allah allows a person a long life, than nothing or no one can prevent that. And if Allah wishes to end someone's life duration, no ritual or anything can prevent that from happening.

However, we are human beings, we sometimes feel uncomfortable or itchy if we don't follow some rituals even if we know the ultimate thing is on Allah, nothing will change no matter what we do. We still do it for the peace of our mind. That's completely diferebt thing.

But physical force to a woman for following a certain ritual? A big NO.
