I think any phrase that undermines Sai as his wife triggers him. This started right from the car ride after Sai's agreement where she reiterated ki "main bhi Kabhi apki biwi Nahi ban paungi" or something like that.

I feel as if he were sad about being forced into marriage but also subconsciously wasn't detached from it from the very beginning.

Ohh that's a very good point. It's interesting how he throws words casually around, and when Sai throws that exact same words to him, his face loses its colour😳
