He probably said that so that he has a reason to drop her.But now that she is going by herself, he has no need to get ready for work this early, so he probably came down for breakfast in regular clothes.

Most probably his family thinks he left to work early and will not be expecting him to be around to watch Sai grind chillies with her cut finger 😒.
