Why was the family so surprised when Laxmi said she was going to divorce Karan?

Did they actually expect her to live with him?

They all knew how he treated her. He neglected her, ignored her, was cruel to her and abused her verbally, making her cry every single day.

How can the family be be surprised that she doesn;t want to continue living with a man like that?

How can the family still want her to live with a man like that?

I thought they would support her fully

Maybe they were shocked in the way that a divorce is something that isn't meant to be... not a good thing... yh they know that Lakshmi isn't on the good terms with Karan but divorce is a BIG thing and a drastic step to take...

yeah you are right, but Karan as we all know did everything unknowingly. He didnt want to listen to Lakshmis talks because he didnt want any made up storys as he thought to obscure his thought process and plans. Karan did everything he did unkowingly. And its not like it was his fault Surya even got into an accident. If it could be prevented who on earth told Surya to walk on the streets alone? It was Surya decision right?

But seriously the accident was not Karans fault at all or thats what I think. And the family is looking out for Lakshmis future. They dont want her to regret her decision especially since she is making her decisions in such a haste. That is probabl why they were in such a shock.

Yea, realistically speaking usually a family wouldn't expect their daughter to still live with someone like Karan after everything thats happened. But I guess as Rukhaya said divorce is a big thing for them, and they don't want Laxmi to get divorced. And they also know that Karan did everything unknown of the real fact. But I agree, how can they expect her to live with Karan?

I agree that a family would not expect their daughter to still live with Karan, but I honestly think Karan has shades of gray--he has it in him to be good to wife, family, others. I think they see he is repenting and different from what he was before. I think because Lakshmi is entering divorce so quickly (we're talking about a several days!), the family is having issues.

Lakshmi has let it be known that if anything bad happens to her sister (early birth) or her father (we know he is in fact alive), she will break off all relations with K. Now that Saraswati is ok, and her dad will be ok, then what the f**k is her problem?----pride. She's strong and I respect her for that--but more and more lately, they have shown why she's the youngest.
