************ PART 3 - Signed and Sealed *******************
Geet let her fingers linger on the paper for a couple of seconds after she had signed her name. The reality of her situation slowly settling in. The weight of the decision, the finality of it, pressed down on her like a storm cloud. If anyone had told her this morning that she would be signing a marriage contract with Maan Singh Khurana for a year, she would have laughed in their face.
Maan Singh Khurana
The Maan Singh Khurana. The very man she had idolized while setting up her business. At such a young age he had accomplished what most could only dream of in a lifetime. His name was synonymous with success, his sharp instincts and unrelenting focus setting him apart in a cutthroat world. He wasn't just a businessman; he was someone who thrived under pressure, turning challenges in to stepping stones. His ability to command respect and dominate any room he walked into was both awe-inspiring and intimidating. It was this brilliance, sharpness and determination, that had made her admire him long before their paths had ever crossed.
And now she would be his wi-
Business Partner. Geet's mind quickly clamped down, strongly reminding herself that this is what this was - A business deal.
And she’d be damned if she ever forgot that.
Maan leaned back in his chair, his eyes never leaving Geet as she signed the contract. He observed the subtle tension in her movements, the way her fingers trembled ever so slightly as they hovered over the paper. For a brief moment, he caught her vulnerability — her eyes clouded with doubt, like she was weighing something heavy within. He saw the small, almost imperceptible gesture of her biting her lip, a fleeting sign of unease, before it vanished entirely. In the next instant, her features hardened, a mask of strength settling over her face as if she had consciously decided to hide her uncertainties. He couldn’t help but wonder what lay beneath that mask, what she was fighting to protect or prove.
He had no interest in emotions-he had always dismissed them, especially in the world he operated in. He had never wanted to understand anyone's feelings; they werej ust distractions. But not with this woman. With her, he found himself wanting to know why she was doing this, why she was willing to enter an arrangement like this when it didn't seem to be for any obvious reason. He didn't get it-and he wanted to.
He had to be sure-had to make absolutely certain that there were no hidden motives on her part, no chance, however small, that this arrangement would somehow backfire. As a businessman, it was his job to make sure there were no surprises, no risks.
Yeah, you tell yourself that.
Clearing his throat in a bid to shut down the annoying little voice in his head, he began speaking, his voice low but firm "So, this... partnership. are you certain this is what you want?"
He watched as her lips curved in a polite smile, "I don't take on anything unless I'm certain Mr. Khurana"
Even though she tried to put up a wall of defiance and strength, he saw right through it.
"I am a man of few words, Miss Handa. So let me ask you directly - why would you so readily agree to this?"
Her fingers tightened on the pen she was holding, and she bit her lip for a very brief second, but her voice remained calm. "I'm not here for charity, Mr. Khurana, if that's what you are hinting at - and I already told you, I don't want your money" she said, her tone unwavering. "I'm here for a business deal that benefits us both. You want a wife; I want that deal with VK Designs and Khurana Constructions"
Maan watched her intently, the slight crack in her voice was not missed by him, no matter how strong she tried to portray herself to be.
He let a glimmer of smile skirt through his lips before rearranging his features, ensuring his eyes remained serious.
"I need to be sure I know who I am dealing with" He leaned in, his gaze capturing hers. "And more importantly, I think you need to know who you're dealing with"
If that unsettled her, she didn't let it show. And he was impressed!
Maan leaned back, his gaze still fixed on her—sharp, calculating. Yet beneath that scrutiny, there was something else, something unspoken that sent a strange pulse through her veins. This wasn’t just about business anymore. It was a test, a challenge thrown her way, daring her to prove she could stand toe-to-toe with him.
Geet refused to waver. Lifting her chin slightly, she met his eyes head-on. “I understand what I’m signing up for, Mr. Khurana,” she said, her voice steady, edged with quiet steel. “And I can handle expectations. I’ve had practice.” A shadow flickered in her eyes, a memory she quickly buried—of years spent under her aunt’s relentless manipulations, learning the art of survival through silence and endurance.
Maan's gaze sharpened, catching the brief flicker of pain in her eyes. "You’ll be stepping into my world, Miss Handa and it’s not going to be easy"
Geet felt a jolt at his words but forced herself to stay composed. "I am not here for a fairy tale, Mr Khurana "
A faint smile tugged at his lips, something almost like admiration. "So why are you here?”
She took a deep breath, choosing her words carefully. "Partnering with you isn't about your wealth; it's about expanding my business and getting it to where yours is now. It's about building my empire."
For a moment, Maan simply watched her, his expression unreadable. Then he leaned forward, his eyes darkening with that same intensity that had unsettled her from the start.
She swallowed, holding her ground even as a flicker of tension passed between them, hot and unnerving.
The silence that followed was thick, electric. She could feel the weight of his gaze, as if he could see beyond her composed exterior, through the armour she'd built around herself.
Leaning back in his chair, he studied her with a look that was far from casual, "Let's be clear about one thing. When we're together in public, there's no room for hesitation. We won't be just business partners in their eyes. We're husband and wife."
Geet's spine straightened, her resolve strengthening. "I can play the role just fine." she said, extremely proud that her voice had been steady despite the storm within her.
He raised an eyebrow, almost as if he saw right through her, "Can you? Because this isn't just a transaction"
She resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Instead, she kept her voice calm, letting a hint of challenge slip into her tone. "You're underestimating me, Mr.Khurana. I know exactly what people expect of a 'happy couple.'"
His gaze flickered with a glint of something darker, something she hadn't seen before. "Good. Because once we're in this, there's no backing out."He leaned in, his voice low, each word carrying an intensity that sent a shiver down her spine. "You'll be my wife. And while you may think you can handle it, the minute you’re faced with reality, I doubt you’ll feel the same way "
She met his gaze, holding his intensity with her own. "Now we’re just wasting time with assumptions, Mr. Khurana. I am not the one second guessing my decision – if you want to think about it, or change any of these terms, we can discuss that, otherwise there is nothing more to talk about. I have signed it. We both get what we need from this, Nothing more, Nothing Less”
A subtle tension passed between them, the kind that felt both like a dare and a promise. His lips curved slightly; the first sign of an actual smile she'd seen all evening, “You talk a good game, Miss.Handa.”
Geet met his gaze head-on, unwavering. “I don’t just talk, Mr. Khurana. I deliver.”
Something flickered in his eyes, an acknowledgment, perhaps even amusement, but it was gone before she could decipher it.
He leaned back in his chair, fingers tapping idly against the desk. “We’ll see about that.”
With that Geet straightened, smoothing an invisible crease on her suit, preparing to leave.
Maan’s eyes followed the movement, his gaze lingering just a second longer than necessary.
Her expression was unreadable, composed—but he had already seen the cracks, the fleeting moments where uncertainty had threatened to slip through. And yet, she carried herself with an air of quiet defiance, refusing to betray anything more than what she allowed.
He found himself admiring that.
Not in the way a man admires a woman’s beauty—though he would be lying if he said she wasn’t striking—but in the way one acknowledges a worthy opponent. She had walked into this agreement fully aware of the stakes, meeting his challenge without flinching. That kind of resolve was rare. It was… impressive.
Still, he had no place entertaining such thoughts. This was a contract, nothing more. Any unnecessary distractions—especially ones that came wrapped in determination and fire—had no place in his world.
This was business. Nothing more.
As she reached the door, his voice cut through the space between them, firm and unquestionable.
“The Oberoi. Eight o’clock.”
Geet paused, turning slightly, her brows lifting in question.
Maan met her gaze evenly. “Dinner.”
She tilted her head as if assessing him. “For?”
He smirked, “Business, Ms. Handa.” He said, his tone smooth and impassive as he pointed to the marriage contract she had just signed.
As low smile played on her lips, as if she had expected nothing less as her fingers curled around the handle, but before stepping out, she turned back slightly. “Good. Because I do not expect anything else, Mr. Khurana.”
And with that, she was gone.
Maan exhaled, his gaze lingering on the closed door for a moment longer than necessary. There was something about her—the quiet defiance in her eyes, the way she met his challenges head-on without hesitation.
It was irritating. It was intriguing. And it was dangerous.
With a sharp shake of his head, he turned back to his work, pushing aside the unwelcome realization that this arrangement might be far more distracting than he had anticipated.
And that was the last thing he needed. Attraction had no place in business, and it was in everyone's best interest—especially his own—if he kept it that way.
