Chapter 19
"Cake" Geet placed the small plate in front of Maan.
"I'm still stuffed from dinner" Maan answered looking away from his laptop.
"I know, but I got a small slice and I thought we could share it" she dragged the chair opposite his desk next to him.
Geet spooned some cake and held it up for him, he smiled taking the bite and watched as she grabbed some more cake and ate from the same spoon. "It's so nice" she hummed licking her lips and held up another spoonful for Maan.
"Nahi, Geet. I'm seriously full" he shook his head. "You eat it".
"Maan, I'm trying to be good with my food so I can't finish this alone" even as she said that she ate the second spoonful of cake.
"I'm sure you can manage" he responded and watched her licking her lips once again. He reached brushing the crumbs from the corner of her mouth, Geet stopped and stared. She swallowed slowly and watched silently. Maan looked at where his fingers touched the corner before looking and meeting her gaze.
Geet looked away first and he dropped his hand clearing his throat.
"Uh… Are you sure you don’t want it?" she gestured to the cake and already standing to leave. "If not, then… I'll see you later".
"Geet" Maan caught her wrist, he stood drawing her close.
"Don’t, Maan please" she whispered. Especially if you're going to pull away.
"I want to" he assured as if he could hear her thoughts and understood what she was assuming. He cradled her cheek, she tilted her chin and stared at him. I really do.
Geet unconsciously placed her hands on his shoulder clutching him tightly, her lips trembled, and a shudder ran down her spine as he closed the distance between them.
Maan angled her face and pressed his lips against hers, she was soft and hesitating. He curled his hand around her waist pulling her closer until their bodies aligned encouraging her, Geet slid her arm around his neck tiptoeing as she couldn’t arch her neck further as she only reached his shoulder.
His kisses were gentle pecks drawing in her lips and nibbling on them at first, before he traced between her lips with his tongue seeking permission to deepen their kiss.
He tasted sweet chocolate cake as their tongues explored one another, he kept his hands locked on her hips and didn’t do anything further lest he scared her.
They pulled away after a moment breathing heavily, Geet swallowed hard and burrowed her face into his chest, her cheeks reddening as she realised, he had kissed her. She had her first ever kiss. She smiled brushing her fingers consciously on her lips.
Maan held onto her and didn’t say anything as he breathed deeply catching his breath.
"You okay?" he asked after a bit when neither of them broke the silence.
They simply stood holding each other.
"Hmm…" she hummed.
"I need to get back to work" he murmured cradling her cheek and tilted so she'd look at him and meet his eyes rather than avoid him.
"Ok" she whispered smiling.
Maan pressed a kiss to her forehead, Geet picked up the plate with the remaining cake and left him to work.
Maan sat down on his chair as he thought of the kiss he'd shared with Geet, she was soft, supple and melted in his arms. He dragged his fingers through his hair clenching his jaw and squeezed his eyes closed. How could I lose myself? I need to control myself.
Geet curled up in bed, her cheeks tinted in red as she gushed inwardly about the kiss she'd just had with Maan. He had kissed her. A kiss that had her toes curl and the butterflies skittering in her stomach.
Why couldn’t he just do that the other day? She shook her head. At least, they'd talked it out and he had promised to give them a chance. But why stopped him last time? she pondered silently and waited for Maan to join her. She wanted to ask him this.
Maan joined her a couple of hours later, it was almost close to 1am when he finally decided to turn in for the night and hoped Geet was sleeping. A myriad of emotions swirled around his mind and he didn’t know if he could hide it from Geet.
Unfortunately for him, Geet wasn’t asleep.
He offered a small smile to her and headed into the washroom to do his nightly routine, once he'd brushed his teeth and changed, he walked out and joined her.
Geet lay curled up on her side with her hand on her phone, she seemed to be busy reading something, he was grateful and hoped she'd remain on her side and keep reading whatever she was reading.
He could feel her shifting and placing her phone away, Geet turned to face him and shifted closer unconsciously.
"Ek baat puchu?" she asked softly as darkness consumed their room after he switched off the night lamp.
"Hmm?"
"Why did you withdraw away the other night?" she asked softly feeling glad that he couldn’t see her face.
Could he bring himself to share everything right now? He thought and turned his head to look at her. "I want to tell you, but I'm afraid" he admitted softly.
"Of?"
"That I'll hurt you" he reached up tucking her hair behind her ear.
"Maan, what is it?" Geet squinted in confusion.
"Not now, Geet" he looked at her pleadingly. "I'll tell you, one day… but just not now. I'm not ready…" he responded.
Geet was filled with curiously and wondered what he was hiding, but she nodded and accepted his request. "Ok. But I want to hear it from you whatever it is, it's going to hurt me if I hear it from anyone else" she informed.
"I promise you'll only hear it from me" he promised earnestly, Nobody knows about this. Not even dadima.
Geet nodded in acceptance, Maan lifted his head pressing a kiss to her forehead and rested on his pillow to allow sleep to consume them both.
