Chapter 54: A Consensus (A)
'Maan' she whispered louder as she stepped into the doorstep of the forest, fear and distress being paramount. Once near the edge, she meekly shakes out his name out again but only to hear crickets and other animal noises return, Geet had then turned around to return to the desolate road near the car however the dark sky caught her eyes and then a saying so remote thundered in her being 'No person, no place and no creature should have that power to make you cry in fear. Be sure you will be fine whether you're in a crowd or alone. In fact, at least know that I will always be there for you' and something in her urged towards the crowding trees. Hands pulled down, and legs lay scattered forcing Geet to duck down and jump over branches and roots, in that journey she let fear take a back seat as she solely focused her eyes in the dark to protect herself from a fall.
'Maan' she called louder than intended and an 'Aaaooohooo' returned her call, freaking her legs into a wild run.
'MAAN ... MAAN' she screamed running as fast as her legs could carry, her heart thumping in horror. Every once in a while, she'd look behind to see if anything was chasing her in the absolute dark. Darkness always scared her, but the mixture of the woodlands and the pure black resonated the scream within her.
'MAAAN' she screeched louder, running in to the solid chest of the exact man she was calling.
Maan who sat nearby immediately ran towards her voice realising how big of a mistake he made in his madness. He had never really thought before acting but his reckless behaviour now sounded immature and foolish with a crying Geet plastered against him.
'Geet, shhh, I'm here baby' he tried silencing as her shaken body held tightly, so tight that he could feel her heavy heart beat against his chest in terror. If he left guilt before then he felt irresponsible now, he knew he just had to think before acting.
'I'm sorry' he whispered placing a teary kiss on her head, as she broke out into a hiccupping cry
'I was so scared' she thumped his chest for leaving her like that, still terrified of the thought of being alone in such a place
'I'm sorry' he apologised again stroking that hand that lay over his chest and then he pulled down his head and placed a sacred kiss to her quivering lips, I'm sorry' he whispered onto her lips helping to silence that thundering heart both his and hers.
'Get changed and I'll plate up' Meera ordered walking towards the kitchen as Vicky trudged up the stairs, very tired and grumpy.
'Was it that bad?' Meera asked once Vicky lazily walked down and sat beside her, in front of the gorgeous plate of food she just served
'Hmm' he answered falling to rest his head against his resting elbow, with closed eyes he forked a few morsels of rice into his mouth as Meera edged closer to him.
'I'll feed you' she offered and he let her, this was what was missing from yesterday. Meera pampered and looked-aftered him well, especially on days like this when physically and emotionally he had nothing to offer.
'How was work?' she asked as he bit down the food trying to detour his attention back to her
'Tiring...wait how...?' he started widening his eyes finally to look at his wife who dressed herself in a shiny silk nighty making a knot in his throat.
'Ramji came back and told us' she answered as a blush settled onto her round cheeks
'Has Geet.. he started looking away, slightly red himself for being caught staring at his wife like that
'Hmm' she answered trying to cut down the topic since she knew of Maan taking over and right now Vicky knowing would only aggravate things rather than make them better hence instead she brushed her hand through his head and he smiled showing his white pearls earning him a peck to his cheeks.
Dadima watched the couple downstairs, her grandson was kissing his beautiful wife who now sat in his lap, smiling at the happy couple she went back to her room forgetting the water jug in the hallway itself. Seeing her grandson's happy was her only aim but unfortunately that want wasn't possible for both her children; maybe Maan didn't deserve happiness and seeing him sad was probably her punishment. That was her last thought she had before a drug-induced sleep took over. Depression was Dadima's long companion and so was her sleeping pills, which sat in the bathroom cupboard for the last several weeks however with Geet's exit, her pills and depression made way again. Maybe more because of the guilt that gnawed against every fibre within her frail body.
'Shall we go home?' Maan asked Geet pulling her hands into his hands, both sat on a fallen log which overlooked the bright shiny moon. It was then that Geet looked away and stared at her husband, hopefully in all aspects now however she still was honest about discovering herself hence she stood her ground and laid her want.
'Geet I thought we...' he started in defence, his eyes moving over her face for any signs of regret or simply anything as his heart went into a frantic beat
'Maan I do want to give us a chance but before that I want to visit my home, I haven't seen my family since we've been married plus you promised to take me there once Dadima recovered and you still haven't' she answered averting her gaze to her feet, still withholding her true desire on conquering herself before she conquers him. A part of her learnt to live in secrecy, the part which was loyal to only her.
'Ok let's go to Hosyarpur then' he smiled getting up, after patting down the dust from his trousers then he forwarded an ardent hand towards Geet wishing for her to hold onto him forever and like expected she placed her hand gingerly with a confused smile but his next move had her smiling, he pulled her to his chest and placed a delicate kiss to her forehead and then walked towards the opening of the forested woodlands where his car stood. Holding her secure was all that mattered to him now, he wished to live with her; every day and any day.
Sameera stayed in her room ever since Maan left her, she now realised she was always a guest in his life and like a guest she was to leave but where was she to go. Adeel, though was a friend of some sort however she can't return to him and the father of the baby was unknown. Yes she remembered him, or at least his back. He was a guy she met in one of the many clubs she's been, she had gone crazy celebrating her freedom after fleeing the rehab. Too drunk to know of the date, never mind her action; so when one morning she wake up bare in some strangers arm, she hadn't thought of anything other than collecting herself and walking out to fetch another bottle of intoxication. However right now, she regretted that move; if only she stayed in that hotel room until he changed sides and looked at her; if only she stayed long enough to see his face. But that regret didn't bloom too vast because face or faceless, it didn't matter because he was never going to be her baby's father; for there was a ring, a sacred bond in his finger that pulled the duvet over his head as she looked his way one final time before walking out the hotel room.
Was it a regret? She couldn't tell at that time but now, placing a firm hand to her beating belly; she knew it was the best thing that happened to her.
'Baby I promise to look after you' she promised with honest eyes, liquor hasn't touched her ever since the revelation of her foetus and then her eyes misted with the thought of her baby's father, a contoured image appeared almost immediately; probably a mix of Maan and Adeel until Adeel took over.
'Oh my?' she cried realising Adeel was overtaking Maan's position in her life, and again she was to face the hurt of love and trust. Why was she always loosing, why was it her that always ended up with a broken heart?
