Chapter 44
Dadima had asked Geet and Maan to rest for a while before the evening sangeet, they had returned to their room, whilst Geet settled on the bed waiting for her mehndi to dry enough Maan had disappeared into the washroom to change out of his shervani wanting out of it.
He returned 20 minutes later and found Geet dozing off on the bed, her head slightly sliding, it was going to ache later on if she didn't support her neck so he walked over grabbing the cushion carefully lifting her neck and placed the cushion underneath.
He wondered if he should wake her and ask her to change, her clothes didn't seem anywhere near comfortable and there was a few hours till the sangeet this evening. As far as he knew the others were just doing the last minute decorations and making sure everything was beautifully done.
"Geet..." he touched her shoulder gently. "Geet" he called again when she didn't respond. "Geet you're going to be uncomfortable" he spoke. "Wake up and change"
She mumbled something incoherently which he couldn't make out, so he leaned forward.
"What?"
"Sone dijiye" she whispered grabbing the hand that rested near her shoulder, Maan gasped when her mehndi covered his fingertips, Geet slowly opened her eyes confused, her eyes widening when she saw Maan, slowly lowering down to her hand grasping onto his fingers.
She sat up releasing his fingers biting her lip nervously. "Woh... woh... main..."
"It's okay" Maan cut her off, he walked away to the washroom to wash his hands before the mehndi settled, Geet was about to animatedly smack her forehead then recalled the mehndi on her hands, she waited till Maan walked out then went in washing her hands.
The colour of the mehndi thankfully had settled, the smudged bit was barely just orange, the pattern however was darker and already printed. She slowly walked back out shooting a quick prayer smiling nervously when Maan looked at her.
"Woh... I..."
"Geet it's okay" Maan cut her off before she started apologizing, it was an accident and they both knew it. She shuffled on her feet for a moment before going around and settling on the corner of the sofa, whilst Maan had watched her. She dipped her eyes playing with her fingers in silence, Maan leaned back casually, he hadn't looked away this time instead perused his wife. Geet slowly looked up quickly averting her eyes when she noticed his gaze on her making Maan smirk.
She swallowed thickly chewing on her lower lip, silence continued to stretch between them. Geet looked everywhere then decided she was better off downstairs, so she stood quickly.
"Geet" Maan called just as she rounded the table.
She stopped slowly turning her head and looked at him.
"Kuch nahi" he shook his head teasingly, Geet blushed skipping away to the door, she stopped and looked over her shoulder.
"Maan..." she whispered softly gaining his attention. "Aap... aap aaye mujhe accha laga"
He smiled nodding in response, she left shyly keeping her eyes lowered bumping into Ranbir and yelped nearly fell backwards till he'd caught her.
Maan scowled as he had hurried out of their room hearing her and seeing Ranbir holding onto his wife especially with both arms around Geet's waist... He clenched his jaw narrowing his deathly gaze on Ranbir who stepped back nervously plastering a fake innocent smile. "Woh bhai jaan..."
"Shut up!" Maan cut him off, Geet looked surprised.
"Maan bete woh Geet ko bachaye hai" Dadima who had witnessed it walked over.
"Don't side with him dadima" Maan replied. "What the hell is he even still doing here?" he scowled.
"Maan!" Dadima frowned. "Don't be mean"
"That idiot lied" Maan pointed out. "Do you know how worried I got" he blurted out, Geet wondered what had Ranbir lied about that had gotten her husband worried, dadima smiled at his indirect response, she also noticed Geet questioning eyes.
"Bete I'll tell you"
"No you won't" Maan cut her off, Geet pouted looking sadly at dadima.
"I'll tell her myself" he crossed his arms. "You can go"
"You only have to say you want to be alone instead of being so rude" Dadima countered.
"And you!" Maan scowled at Ranbir. "Get out"
"Ranbir bete come with me" Dadima called out gesturing him to follow.
"Ji dadima" he quickly sped away from the wrath of his best friend's brother.
Geet looked at Maan waiting for him to speak, instead he walked in. She followed in the hope of hearing it from Maan but he didn't speak.
"Aap ne kahan ke..." she started pouting her lips when he hadn't spoken.
"I know" Maan interrupted. He was only trying to figure out how to inform his wife without getting embarrassed. Why did you even believe that stupid Ranbir anyway? He cursed inwardly. "Geet woh..." he sighed heavily. "I... Ranbir said you fainted" he revealed slowly. "And I... I got worried"
Geet stared at him surprised for a moment, she bit her lower lip dipping her eyes down instead, she guessed he was most probably going to be embarrassed; he didn't seem that comfortable as well revealing that so she didn't say anything else.
They were interrupted with a knock, before they had even answered Amelia walked in smiling widely at the both of them. "Here's your clothes. I chose them" she grinned rather proudly. "So dadima said you both should start getting ready, the sangeet will be starting soon" she smiled then left them to it.
