A WEEK LATER
A PRESTIGIOUS TEMPLE NEAR MALABAR HILL, MUMBAI
Today is "Janmashtmi", birthday of Lord Krishna. The temple committee had organised a cultural program on the life and antics of Lord Krishna. Everyone was invited i.e. it was free show without tickets! When Ranjit Singh Khurana was told about this by one of his business circle friends he insisted on visiting the temple and seeing the show. Ranjit wanted to go so that he could spot new talent. Savitri Devi wanted to go for religious reasons and Vicky because he had heard that today's prasad is in form of unlimited lunch which is home cooked by the temple devotees. Only Maan was not interested as it had nothing to do with business and sports! But he was emotionally blackmailed by Savitri Devi and Ranjit into coming. On entering the temple premises they were at once greeted by Ranjit's business friend who had told Ranjit about this function. Savitri Devi was mesmerised seeing the beauty of temple decoration,
the dresses of idol etc.
she went and sat in front of the idol. Vicky was getting smitten by all beautiful girls passing by. Maan was looking here and there when a youngman came near him with folded hands dressed in white kurta pajama near him saying, "Bhakt-gann chaliye Krishanji ki leelaiyen prarambh honewali hain!" (Dear devotee please come as the life and antics of Lord Krishan is about to be performed.)
Savitri Devi was about sit on the floor when a hand stopped her. When she looked at the person who stopped her it was a beautiful girl of abour 18-23yrs, wearing a white lengha.
She said, "Kshama kijiye, Auntyji yeh farsh aapke liye bahut thanda aur sakth hai. Aap yahaan beithiye." (I apologise for my impertinence, but Auntyji the floor is very cold and hard for you. You please sit here.) The girl guided Savitri Devi to a place where there were chairs and many middle aged and old ladies were sitting. One lady asked her, "Gudiya beta Krishanji ki leelayein kab shuru hongi?"(Gudiya, when is the program going to start?)
"Sharma Aunty abhi aadhe ghante mein shuru honewali hai. Aap chahein toh stage ke paas abhi jaa kar beith sakteen hain!" (Sharma Aunty it will start in half an hour. But if you want, you can go now and sit near the stage!)
"Gudiya, kya Rishabh aa raha hai?" (Gudiya, when is Rishabh coming?)
"Patta nahi Auntyji Rishabh Bhai-sa ko daftar mein bahut kaam hai. Magar Sid Bhai-sa aa rahe hai." (I don't know Auntyji, Rishabh Bhai-sa has lot of work in the office! But Sid Bhai-sa will be coming soon.)
"Sid naa baba naa. Uske aane se pehle mai ghar chali jaaongi!" (Sid oh no! If he comes, I'll leave!)
"Kya Auntyji ek choti si shararat se aap itna darr gayeen?" (What Auntyji for such a small prank you are still scared!)
"Beta tumhari umar mein koi baalon mein chewing gum chipkaye toh woh nikal aati hai yaa baal kaat sakte ho. Magar humari umar mein chewing gum ke saath-saath baal bhi nikal aate hain aur phir wapis nahi uggte. Kyun behanji?" (My dear girl, if at your age someone sticks chewing gum in your hair it can come out or you can trim the hair. But at our age, along with chewing gum even hair is pulled out and then that hair never grows back. Isn't that so?) Mrs. Sharma addressed Savitri Devi. Making Savitri Devi smile.
"Theek mai aapko batta doongi jab Sid Bhai-sa aa jaate hain. Accha abb mai chalti hoon!" (Alright, I'll tell you when Sid Bhai-sa is here.) Gudiya left.
Savitri Devi started talking to Mrs. Sharma and other ladies. After 20mins., Vicky came running and said, "Dadimaa, Dad aapko bula rahen hain." (Dadimaa, Dad is calling you.)
Seeing Vicky, Mrs. Bhalla said, "Behenji kya yeh aapka pota hain?" (Mrs. Khurana, this is your grandson?) Savitri Devi nodded affirmative. "Kya iski shaadi ho gayi hai?" (Is he married?) Alarming both Savitri Devi and Vicky.
"Nahi. Kyun?" (No. Why??)
"Meri ek bahut soni poti hai Menaka, yeh dekho!" (My grand daughter, Menaka is very charming. Look!) Mrs. Bhalla said taking out a photograph. The girl was wearing braces with a huge smile and broad and big spectacles.
Vicky was horrified seeing the picture. Just then he saw Maan trying to attract his attention and said,"Dadimaa chaliye Dad bula rahe hain!" (Dadimaa, hurry Dad is calling!) Both Savitri Devi and Vicky left there in hurry!
Programme started. It had different performances done by men, women and children. Finally when the last program was to start Maan was about to leave as he had lost his patience, when Savitri Devi held Maan's hand in a tight grip and made him sit saying,"Jab tum poora program dekh chuke bina bawaal khada kiye hue toh ek last dance performance bhi dekh lo!" (When you sat through the whole program without creating a ruckus than why can't you wait patiently for the last performance?)
"Dadimaa, abb aur nahi!" (Dadimaa, I've had enough!) Saying this Maan was about to get up when the lights were switched off and there was complete darkness. Then stage curtains, slowly were raised with rotating colourful lights, like in a rainbow. And the announcer announced,"Abb dekhete shararti Krishan Kanhaiya apne aap ko rusht Radharani se kaise bacchate hain. Yeh nritya prastuth kar rahe hain Siddharth aur Geetika Rajsinghania." (Now we present that how mischievious Krishan Kanhaiya saves himself from annoyed Radharani's temper. The dance is presented by Siddharth and Geetika Rajsinghania.)
A girl dressed in beautiful red and white lengha came and then a youngman dressed as Lord Krishan came on the stage. Stage was lit and on the stage was Radha and Krishan with Gopis doing "Raas-leela". Radha getting possessive and jealous regarding gopis surrounding Krishan and Krishan teasing Radha more and more in order to see her possessive and jealous behaviour.

The youngman playing role of Lord Krishan did not have to dance much, but the girl playing Radha was dancing with so much grace and was extremely light footed. The last 30 secs. of the dance had classical undertones to it. The girl danced and did not miss a single beat! The girl playing Radha concluded the performance with fast footwork and classical poses. Thereby ending her dance with graceful finesse. The audience unable to stop itself rose from their seats applauding. Along with the audience, Khurana family was also mesmerised to different degrees. Savitri Devi was confident that she has found her Bahu for Khurana Khandaan. Ranjit was sure that he has found a new talent to take on Indo-Taiwanese tour. Vicky was still in a state of wonder that as he had never imagined that folk cum classical dance could be so graceful (according to Vicky!). Maan was in a world of his own seeing a milky white beauty with hazel eyes possessing so much beauty and grace. He wanted to know more about her. When the youngman playing Krishan put his arm around her shoulders to guide her off the stage, Maan had an unconscious urge to rip him limb to limb for putting his hand on the beauty who was meant only for him!
THREE DAYS LATER
Location: RAJSINGHANIA'S PENTHOUSE, MALABAR HILL, Mumbai,
Krishankant and Radharani saw majority of their children i.e. Neel, Yash, Arnav, Veer, Sid and Geet sitting so thought to broach the topic which was making them escstatic since past three days. Radharani started, "Bacchon tum sabko ek khush kabaari deni hai." (Children, we have a good news for all of you!)
"Kya Maa?" (What Maa?) Yash asked.
"Geet ke liye Delhi se ek rishta aaya hai." (There is a marriage proposal for Geet from Delhi!) exuberant Krishankant announced.
"KYA?" (WHAT?)
"YEH AAP KYA KEH RAHEN HAIN MAA AUR BABA?" (What are you saying Maa & Baba?)
"Geet toh abhi bacchi hai!" (Geet is still a child!)
"Geet itni choti bhi nahi hai. Uski umar mei mere Siddharth ho gaya thaa." (At Geet's age I was already a mother of Siddharth!)
"Maa tab ki aur aaj kal ki baath alag hai!" (Maa, those times and current times are different!)
"Geet ki shaadi toh jald se jald hogi agar iss ladke se nahi toh kissi aur se. Magar shaadi toh hogi!" (Geet's wedding will definitely be done, if not with this boy, then somone else.) Krishankant said taking a tough stand. "Haan agar tum bhaiyon ko ladke ke baare mein kuch poochna ho, toh pooch sakte ho!" (Yes if you brothers' want to ask anything about Geet's future husband you can go ahead.)
The five youngmen knew that when their Baba or Papa's is in his this stance he is not open to discussion. Although he took this stance rarely but when he did, it meant "NO MORE ARGUEMENTS!"
Five brothers looking at one another made a non verbal combined pact. Hence the rapid fire started.
"Kya ladka khaana banna sakta hai?" (Can the boy cook?) Yash asked.
"Kya ladka puja-paath karta hai?" (Is the boy religious?) Neel enquired.
"Kya ladka martial arts aur gym karta hai?" (Does the boy do martial arts and go to the gym?) Udayveer questioned.
"Kya ladka acting kar sakta hai?" (Can the boy act?) Sid quipped
"Can Geet's future husband do Salsa?" Arnav said while doing some Salsa moves.
"Ladka kamaata kitna hai? Yaa Sid ki tehara sirf naatak karta hai?" (How much does the boy earn? Or he just whiles away time like Sid?) Rishabh demanded walking into the mansion from work.
Geet's brothers were throwing these volley of questions at Krishankant and Radharani because they had just broached the topic of Geet's upcoming marriage alliance.
"Beta, ladke ke baare mein yeh sab kaun poochta hai?" (Beta who asks all this about a boy?) Radharani tried to reason.
"Kyun nahi? Humari behan se toh woh yeh sab poochete hain ki --- Chal ke dekhao." (Why not? When girl is questioned--- walk and show us?)
"Khaana banna sakti ho? " (Can you cook?
"Silai aur Kadai aati hai ki nahi?" (Can you stitch?)
"Ramayan kaa paath jaanti ho?" (Can you recite Holy Hindu scripture, Ramayan?)
"Kahaan tak padhi ho?" (Till where have you studied?)
"What nonsense? If girl's are expected to answer these questions why not boys?"
"Ladka padha-likha, acche ghar kaa aur business tycoon hai!" (The boy is well educated, from a good family and a business tycoon!) Krishankant said with pride.
"Toh usmei akhaar zarur hogi. Sab paisewalon mein hoti hai!" (Then he must definitely be an arrogant snob! All rich people are!) Geet outright rejected the proposal.
"Magar tum mai toh akhaar nahi hai." (But you don't have arrogance neither you are a snob!) Radhaji tried to explain logically to Geet "Mayuri, tumhari abb shaadi ki umar ho gayi hai beta. Thande dimag se socho." (Geet, you are of a marriageable age darling. Think rationally!)
"Theek hai agar aap mujhe iss ghar se nikaalna hi chahteen hain toh yehi sahi. MAI SIRF USS LADKE SE SHAADI KARONGI JISSE MERE SAB BHAI PASAND KARTE HAIN!" (Fine if you want to chuck me out of the house, I agree. BUT I WILL ONLY MARRY THAT BOY WHOM ALL OF MY BROTHERS APPROVE OFF!) Geet burst into tears and ran to her room. Leaving behind shocked Krishankant and Radharani; and furious Rishi, Neel, Yash, Arnav, Veer and Sid that their parents have made their Gudiya cry.
