"Maan kahan hai?" Dadima turned to her.
"Please Dadima" Geet whispered softly, she guessed by the look on the elderly woman's face she was angry seeing the separate sleeping arrangements and if she was going to blast her husband then her husband might take it out on her. "Kuch mat kahiye" she silently pleaded with her eyes
Dadima sighed seeing Geet afraid so she nodded at her request. "Teek hai. Aap tayyar ho ke neeche aiye, breakfast ready ho jayega" she informed.
Geet nodded and watched Dadima leave the room, she let out a sigh of relief, she walked over towards the window since the room was pretty dim, pushing the curtains away sunlight washed through the room lightening up brightly, she frowned in confusion as she noticed they weren't windows but screen doors, sliding them open she stepped onto the balcony moving to the rails, Geet was surprised for a moment however in admiration as she took in the sight before her. His room balcony faced a large garden which was looked after well and a massive rectangle pool on the in the centre of the entire garden of her as she looked down with bricked flooring surrounding it and there were quite a few outdoor chaise lounges lined a few feet away from the pool which would give a nice view of the garden and pool to anyone relaxing in them. A part of her was excited and looking forward to exploring the garden, she was brought out of her dream land hearing door being unlocked, turning around she saw Maan walk out with a towel hung around his waist.
Maan had forgotten for a moment that someone else was staying in his room, he headed straight into the dressing room leaving the doors open. Geet quickly shifted to the walls pressing her back against it as she caught him removing his towel fortunately she was quick moving.
Maan turned his head hearing the patter of feet, he quickly slipped into his pants and walked out then seeing the suitcase he remembered about his damn wife, his eyes drew to the open screen doors and he had to look no further, he strode towards the balcony feeling the anger boiling in him.
Geet gasped as she felt his grip around her wrist, he tugged her hard making her shift quickly and stand before him.
"Don't you have any shame?" he snapped. "Chup chup ke mujhe dekh rahe ho?" he clipped out.
She shook her head quickly, her lips trying to voice something out in her defence but talking back to him might just make him lash out on her.
"Muh mein zabaan nahi hai kya?" he grit out releasing her wrist. "Dadima ko iss gungi ko hi chunna ta" he muttered and moved away after throwing a disgusted look in her direction, he grabbed his shirt and walked out of the room leaving Geet stood there frozen and tears gathering in her eyes.
Maan climbed down the stairs buttoning up his shirt and headed over to the dining room where Dadima and Vikrant were waiting.
"Geet kahan hai?" Dadima questioned seeing Geet hadn't come down yet.
"Don't know and don't care" he shrugged and comforted himself in his chair, he ignored Dadima's glare and grabbed himself a toast and his coffee.
She sighed and stood to her feet.
"Is she disabled or something?" Maan looked up at Dadima. "She has got two feet to walk so I'm sure she can come by herself or does she need someone to always hold her hand?" he questioned.
"Maan woh yahan nayi hai, sirf iss ghar mein nahi lekin iss shehar mein bhi" she countered back. "Manta hoon jo Gayatri ne kiya woh galat ta lekin uska matlab nahi ke har ek aurat Gayatri ke tarah hai" she clipped out. "Geet Gayatri nahi hai" she told him firmly.
He looked ahead, his jaws clenched, his hands fisted as he heard the name of the woman who left him to bear the responsibilities at a young age, he slowly turned his head to Dadima. "She's going to be like that woman! She's getting the comfort and the lifestyle here and you'll see how she'll start her shopping spree. She'll milk money out of the business, out of our home, our family and you'll see how she leaves once she had her fill" he replied standing to his feet. "All women are the same, vicious, manipulating bitc..." he stopped himself seeing Dadima's eyes widening. He looked away and moved towards the doors without sparing another glance to anyone else.
"Maan" Dadima called after him.
He didn't stop once and continued walking, he climbed into his car and sped away, the thought of that woman or even hearing her name was like acid burning him. How could a mother leave her two young children for money? Who'd do that? Venomous blood sucking snakes like his so called mother would do it and for him Geet was one of them. She was going to leave him one day or the other if he lets her in or even accepts this marriage and he wasn't going to do it, he was going to protect his heart as he'd done over the years.
Dadima was about to head upstairs to call Geet when she noticed her climbing down the stairs, Geet had draped on a saree with minimal jewellery, despite her hate towards the heavy clothes she knew that a new bride should be dressed accordingly to look like a bahu. She stepped down smiling faintly at Dadima who wrapped an arm around her shoulder.
"Chaliye, breakfast tayyar hai" she gestured walking Geet towards the dining room.
Geet looked around curiously noticing only Vikrant sat on the table, she wondered where Maan could have gone, she almost felt bad because she'd guessed it was her presence that probably put him off, she knew he couldn't stand her, she'd known he hadn't accepted the marriage but this morning she guessed he couldn't stand her at all.
"Baitiye" Dadima gestured to the chair beside her.
Geet stared at the chair for a moment then turned her head to Dadima who was waiting expectantly; she wondered how could she sit? Especially with an elder and another male present?
"Bete?" Dadima touched her shoulder breaking her from her thoughts.
"Woh... hum kaise.." she mumbled.
"Bete yahan aapke gao nahi hai, yahan hum sab milkar baitke khate hai" Dadima replied noting how hesitant Geet was. "Ab baitiye" Dadima pulled the chair back gesturing Geet. "Hum na nahi sunenge" she told her. Geet nodded and sat herself down, Dadima seated herself beside Geet.
"Kya khayenge?" Dadima asked turning her head in Geet's direction which surprised Geet for a moment, she'd never been asked before what she'll like to have, she was expected to eat whatever she was given.
She looked at the table and eyed the toast, she tried to speak, despite trying to will herself to speak up she just couldn't, she couldn't bring herself to speak back, to open herself, to express her desire all of a sudden to strangers, she couldn't. the only person who'd she's ever expressed herself to was her mother, whenever she'd tried to voice her desires to her family she'd been showed her place so what was she to expect from strangers?
"Bhabhi kahiye" Vikrant spoke up, he wondered why she was so quiet, it was quite surprising to see a woman so meek, with him going to college he'd seen girls louder than some men, their non-stop talking and their constant bickering always gave him a headache.
"Woh.. hum... h..." she turned to Dadima. "Hume..."
"Hum aapko dete hai aaj, lekin kal se aap khud humse kahenge teek hai" Dadima intervened.
She nodded shifted uncomfortably, her fingers tapping against her thigh as she watched Dadima placed 2 toasts on her plate and passed it to her then made her own breakfast and started eating, Geet tentative picked up her toast, her eyes wandered to Dadima then to Vikrant and slowly she took a bite and chewed.
Dadima walked Geet around the house giving her a tour of her new home, Geet was in awe of the entire mansion, each room held its own essence, Dadima walked her outside to the garden after showing the mansion to which Geet was very much looking forward to, she couldn't help the smile that appeared on her face, her eyes took in the beautiful sight, the garden had a rose bed along with a number of flowers growing, from lilies to sunflowers, Geet was surprised to learn of Dadima's own vegetable patch, she noticed carrots growing along with onions with a few more vegetables. The servant watering the flowers placed the watering can down.
"Namaste meemsaab" he greeted both of them.
Geet faintly smiled in response looking at the flower bed, the different colours and assortments of flowers was so beautiful to her, she hadn't seen such beauty so near.
"Aapko phool pasand hai?" Dadima asked noticing Geet's eyes wandering the flower bed.
She nodded gently.
Dadima chuckled reaching out and plucked a white rose and offered it to her. "Yeh lijiye" she said. "Aap toh humse baat bhi nahi karte toh hum aapse dosti ke haat badhate hai" she continued.
"Dosti?" Geet questioned in response with an amused smile.
"Kyun hum dost nahi bann sakte?" Dadima feigned a pout to which Geet chuckled.
"Par dosti? Aap toh humare Dadima hai" she replied unknowingly accepting that she was related to Dadima now, despite not accepting her marriage and her husband she had already accepted the elderly woman as her Dadima.
"Toh kya hua? Dadima toh hoon, lekin dost bhi toh ho sakti hoon"
Geet nodded smiling warmly at Dadima.
"Toh lijiye" Dadima gestured to the rose she held.
Geet took it pressing a gentle kiss to the elderly woman's cheek, Dadima grinned already liking her granddaughter in law.
"Aap Geet ke kamre ke liye a vase mein phool rakke wahan pe rakiye" Dadima told the servant who nodded in response and headed back inside to the hall with Geet.
"Accha bete hum soch rahe te ke aaj aapke muh dikhai bhi rakhe, humare kuch rishtedaar hai, aapko dekhna chahenge"
Geet nodded accepting dadima's wish, she didn't want to upset the woman who'd been kind to her and offered her comfort, friendship and more.
"Teek hai" Dadima smiled brightly. "Nakul" she called.
"Ji.." he walked over towards her.
"Ghar ko sajana shuru kijiye, aaj sham muh dikhai hai humare nayi bahu ke"
"Ji"
"Sab kuch tayyar karna shuru kijiye aur khana bhi lazeez hona chahiye" she ordered then turned to Geet.
"Chaliye bete hum aapko tayyar karne mein madad karte hai" she held onto Geet gently and walked up the stairs with her.
