CHAPTER 16
ALL THE NAMES & PLACES ARE FICTITIOUS (if any resemblance to persons & places is purely coincidental). Any royal titles, architectural terms,IT terms & programs, office hierachy, wedding rituals, etc. are from my imagination hence THEY ARE NOT TRUE. PLEASE DON'T BASH ME !!!!!
Rishi regained his consciousness in late night but he was still in ICU! Sameera and Arjun stayed with Geet in hospital in the night as Dr. Ramamoorthy had admitted Geet in a private room under Obstetric and Gynaecology as Presidential Suite was unavailable! Only a lady attendent could be present in the room at night! Maan refused to budge from the hospital saying he will be with Arjun outside the room when Vicky called frantically saying that media is causing a ruckus at home and Dadimaa is getting effected as her BP (blood pressure) is fluctuating! Maan had to rush home.
Next morning, Rishi was shifted to a private ward to everyone's delight! Maan & Adi were sitting in Rishi's room and chatting to Rishi cracking jokes and remembering college days, when nurse rushed in saying that Maan was called by Dr. Ramamoorthy. Arjun, Sameera and Pooja had gone home after spending the night in hospital!
"Abb phir daanth (scolding) padhnewali hai!" (Now I'll be definitely scolded!)
"Haan yaar yeh Dr. Ramamoorthy toh Hitler ki bahen hai!"(Yah! This Dr. Ramamoorthy is a Lady Hitler!)
"Nahi yaar! Galati toh Geet ki thi. Khair mai chalta hoon. Rishi apna khyaal rakhna. Agar zinda raha to wapis aaonga!" (It was Geet's fault. Anyway I'll leave now! Rishi take care! If I'm alive, we will meet!)
Earning roaring laughter from both his friends. "MSK, ka kya haal ho gaya?" Rishi teased. (What has become of MSK?)
Once Maan left, Adi told the whole story making Rishi indebted to Geet. He still can't forget when Rishi and Adi were sitting sad and depressed on "Raksha bandhan" and out of the blue, a pair of soft hands came and tied "rakhi" to both of them. It was a week before Geet disappeared from their lives! "Geet yeh kya... ?" (Geet, what is this...?)
"Aaj se aap dono mere se ek rishte mei bandh gaye hain naa chahte huwe bhi! Aaj se aap mere bhai aur mai aap ki choti behan!" (Today you both are bound to me in this relation even if you don't want. From today you both are my elder brothers and I'm your younger sister!)
"Geet hum dono anath (orphans) hain!"(Geet we both are orphans!)
"Toh kya hua mai bhi anath hoon! Magar aaj koi mere apne ho gaye!" (So what? Even I am an orphan! But to I found some one to call my own.)
Adi and Rishi hugged and kissed Geet on her head and blessing her! This scene was witness by Maan from far, making him fall more in love with his "hazel eyed Mishty"!
Dadimaa, Maan, Teji, Lucky and Vicky were gathered in Geet's room. Teji and Lucky found out about Geet from TV and Arjun & Sameera when they returned from hospital in the morning! Yash was handling KC and Indian Paints for time being! Dr.Ramamoorthy entered the ward with her junior doctors. She sent everyone out and examined Geet. After examination she sent junior doctors away and called the family in! When the whole family was present, Dr. Ramamoorthy started, "I have got results of all tests done. The results are as follows, Mrs. Geetika Maan Singh Khurana is about two weeks pregnant. But due to previous miscarriage; stress & starvation during captivity and now blood donation she is extremely weak. We don't know the extent of harm done to the foetus as it too early to detect. This is a high risk pregnancy and has only 50% chance of the pregnancy to be carried full term. There are two solutions -
a) We terminate the pregnancy on medical grounds. Pro is that so far there has been no emotional bonding ! Cons is that future pregnancies will be even more difficult to sustain as two miscarriages have happened!
b) We let the pregnancy reach till term with lot of rest, nutritious diet, tension free environment and care by the family! The main con is that even if pregnancy can reach full term and baby may still be delivered as a "still-birth" (full grown baby but delivered dead)!
This is the reason I had yelled at Geetika (Geet had asked doctor to use her first name!) yesterday when she donated blood! Anyway I have told you all gathered here including Geetika true situation. You as a family decide and let me know within 36hrs.!"
"Doctor please save my baby, I'll do everything you tell me to. If you want I'll not get up from bed for 9months! PLEASE SAVE MY BABY!" Geet said with folded hands and crying hysterically. Then she lost consciousness due to weakness!
"You all can see how weak is she?"
"Doctor, if we go for MTP(Medical Termination of Pregnancy), how difficult will her future pregnancies be?"
"Ma'am, I can't say for sure but each time miscarriage happens, sustaining pregnancies become tougher! Because body develops a tendency to abort rather than preserve!"
"Mere...bacche...ko...bacchao! Mere...bacche...ko...
bacchao! Mere...bacche...ko...bacchao!" ("Save... my... baby!") Geet was repeating in her delirious state!
"No Doctor! We will go ahead with this pregnancy you tell us all the precautions!" Maan said as he was aware Geet will not be able to bear loosing another child.
"Mr. Khurana, you please think rationally not emotionally! You have time till tomorrow evening!"
After doctor left there was pin-drop silence among everyone present as they all were thinking what is the best solution! Dadimaa finally spoke, "Beta, Geet ki health sabse zaruri hai! Jab woh strong ho jaaye aap phir bacche ke liye koshish kar sakte hain!" (Maan, Geet's health is most important! Once she is stronger you can have another child.)
"Aap sahi keh rahi hain Dadimaa. Magar Geet apne dusare bacche ko khona sahen nahi kar paayegi! Woh che saal baad bhi Dhruv ke sadmei se nahin nikal paayi hai!" (You are right Dadimaa! But Geet will be unable to bear loss of another baby? She has not been able to overcome grief of Dhruv's demise after 6yrs.!)
"Toh kya karen?" (What should we do?)
"Main doctor se detail mei baat karta hoon!" (I go and meet doctor and discuss in detail!)
"Jeejaji, Geetu se agar hum kuch kahen toh kya woh theek hoga?" (Maan, will it help if we talk to Geet!)
"Tum chaho toh koshish kar sakte ho Teji, magar mujhe nahi lagta Geet maanegi!" (You can try Teji, if you want but I don't think it will help!)
Maan left for Dr. Ramamoorthy's cabin! Maan spoke to Dr. Ramamoorthy in detail about Geet's situation in total privacy! Geet was conscious again, Dadimaa,Teji, Lucky and Vicky were about to leave when Dr. Ramamoorthy arrived. "Alright as Mr. Khurana said you all want to keep the baby but there are few conditions, weekly check up of Geetika and after 3 months a thorough examination. If in three monthly examination, the foetus growth is below the expected growth at that time or we detect physical abnormality than I'm afraid we will have to terminate the pregnancy. Are you agreeable Geetika?"
"Yes doctor!"
"Then, please sign these forms! The most important things are - COMPLETE BEDREST for three months Geetika can only can use the washroom, NO CLIMBING STAIRS, SLEEP with feet RAISED and ABSOLUTELY NO STRESS! Geetika, incase you feel any cramps or bleeding please come to HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY! Rest of do's and don'ts are written on this pamphelet! You can be discharged tomorrow. Goodnight!" Dr. Ramamoorthy left for the day!
"The Presidential Suite is available now Mr. Khurana, if you would like to move in there?" Nurse came to enquire.
"Yes please!"
"Suniye!" Maan shot Geet his dark and intense glare, quietening Geet at once! It was the first time since they came to know one another that Maan is angry at Geet!
Khurana's were major shareholders(70%) of this Hospital although it was run by a trust! Hence, they were always given the Presidential Suite. Maan was planning to either dissolve the trust or buy the hospital as he was getting lot of complain regarding Hospital administration! When Adi came to visit Geet, Maan asked him to arrange meeting of hospital trustees as soon as possible!
