Gurgaon: Actress Drashti Dhami is returning to TV post her marriage with pre-independence era love saga "Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani" and she is enjoying her new life as nothing much has changed.
The 30-year-old actress tied the knot with Mumbai-based business man Neeraj Khemka in February this year. Drashti, who will be seen sporting two plaits and cotton saree's in the upcoming TV show, called it the perfect comeback venture for her after her marriage.
"It has been a pretty smooth transition for me. And this show is the perfect comeback venture for me post marriage. I am very happy to get back to work. The best part of the show is the get-up. I just love my whole look - the plaits, the cotton sateen, the printed blouses, the minimalist make-up," Drashti told PTI.
Set against the backdrop of the Indian royalty of the 1940s, the show is a classic saga of love which explores the dynamics of all that transpired behind the four walls of imperial palaces.
After the success of her last show "Madhubala", Drashti said she couldn't have asked for a better role than Gayatri in "Ek Tha Raja".
"I do feel a little under pressure since 'Madhubala' was such a success. But I am also looking forward to seeing my fans' reaction to my new show. Even my family and friends are very excited," the actress said during the launch of the show here.
At the start of the event Drashti and Siddhant Karnik, the male lead from "Ek Tha Raja..' put up a dance drama performance based around the theme of the show, - a love story of a King and a common girl.
The actress said for her, the only challenging aspect to be a part of a period show was to master the Hindi dialect of the 1940s.
"It found it difficult to speak in the dialect which people spoke at that time. That was challenging. Other than that, I did not have any issues with the role," she said.
In order to transport the audiences to the 1940s, an opulent palace, an expensive set has been constructed on the outskirts of Mumbai.
The TV show will also feature polo matches, imperial balls and expensive costumes.
"Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani" also has Anita Raj, Darshan Zariwala, Akshay Anand, Surekh Sikri in prominent roles. The show will air from July 27 on Zee TV.
