Maan : Hello Geet... Geet are you there??
Geet sat on the bed clutching her pillow hardly with one hand and holding the phone on the other. If she could stop the whole world for this one moment, she would freeze it till eternity. Hearing him declaring his love like that made her heart flip almost complete out of her brain's control. His voice fell on her ears.."Geet are you there?" even that felt soothing. The warmth, the love and care for her and the sense of security that she felt. Oh wait, what was he asking again?
Maan : Geet kuch kaho..
Geet replied in a feeble and calm voice, "me yehi hu Maan..I'm here.."
Maan : and..
Geet : and?
Maan : do you still think its just my guilt?
Geet blushed. Even remembering his words caused a tinkle in her heart.
Geet : No
Maan : then what do you think?
Geet : I think that you should go to sleep now
Maan : Oh, common. I slept earlier. The jet lag is still there but I'm in no mood to sleep..
Geet : ..
Maan : Geet, don't put this off to some other time..I need to hear your reply..don't you still love me? Can't we forget all this for once and live our life?
Geet couldn't think straight. His love still had the power to enchant her. And so she was taken away from the reality, enchanted into a fantasy world where Maan once again was her prince charming. The too much direct confession swept her off her feet. She only knew how much his words meant to her. The fact that she was going to leave him was pushed to some farthest corner of her mind. All she could think of were his words and she could never think of disappointing him. But the words that came next even shocked Geet.
Geet : I have always loved you Maan..always!! but sometimes love is just not enough.
Maan : what would be more than love Mishty?
Geet : trust!! Which you don't have on me...
Maan : but Geet...I didn't do it on purpose. I was angry..I wasn't thinking straight and I regret it every single moment of my life!
Geet : that doesn't change anything Maan.
Maan : Geet, I made a big mistake. But don't I deserve another chance? I love you Mishty and I will never ever hurt you again. You have my word.
Tears were openly running down her eyes now and she made no attempt to stop them. A part of her wanted to trust him and hug him to comfort. But another part, which still reminded her of those dreadful lonely days of abandonment, scared her.
Geet : Why!!! Why does it have to be like this?? Why it still hurts so much??
Maan : Geeet..shhh..its ok.. I just wanted you to know that I still love you like I always did. You don't have to say anything! I can't see you in pain.
Geet : Maan, I don't have the strength to take anymore pain. It will kill me..So its better that we are in different paths. They will never cross
Maan : oh it crossed already (pauses) Mia!!
Geet: She is all yours.
Maan : You are her mother. She needs you!
Geet : She has you! And I don't..
Maan : I am yours Geet. Why don't you believe that?
Geet lied down on the bed. The emotional turmoil, jet lag and the tears made her eyes heavy and droopy and her eye lids started closing due to all the exhaustion.
Geet : We will talk tomorrow at the sangeet. You will be there right?
Maan : yes. Ami is dragging Annie along
Geet : that's good
Maan : hmm. Annie has come to life after so many years. She is busy getting the top designers make a lehenga for Ami.
Geet : god!! Ami and lehenga!!
She yawned.
Maan smiled, "sleep tight Mishty and have sweet dreams..about us!!"
Geet was already asleep. Maan listened to her heartbeats quietly and fell asleep in the garden itself.
Geet shifted in her sleep uncomfortably. Her mind was wandering through the different incidents. She smiled in her sleep as she saw Ami happily sitting on Maan's lap. Then her mind focused on Maan. His words well and clear replayed in her mind. But the scene suddenly changed. Maan was not with Ami. He was whispering those things into her ear. Her ears turned pink at the thought. She could feel his warm breath as he declared his love for her. Her heart thudded with anticipation as she felt his warm hands around her bare waist. It was at that moment she realized that it was his bare body near her that was emanating the warmth and teasing her senses. She turned around to face him and he placed a gentle kiss near the corner of her mouth. But she needed more. She put her arms around his bare back and gently touched his lips with her. She kissed on his mouth and the next moment he was invading her mouth tracing every corner with his tongue and leaving her breathless. Geet woke up moaning, "Maaannn.." She realized that it was all a dream yet she was panting hard. She blushed realizing her wild dream and smiled but then as much as it was real that it was an hour more after midnight, it was real that she could hear Maan's faint voice. She quickly checked and found herself clothed and was relieved. That's when she found her phone.
Maan : Geeet..Geet r u ok?
Geet sighed, so he was still there on the phone.
Geet : Maan, I'm fine!
Maan : I heard you calling me, is everything alright?
Geet: Maan I woke up and I saw that you are still on phone!
Maan : really? I thought you were dreaming about me!! So much for sleeping in the garden in this winter!!
Geet blushed scarlet. Ofcourse she was dreaming wild about him but no way would she tell that to him.
Geet : Maan! U r in the garden!! You left Ami all alone...
Maan : ohhh sorry..I'm goin right away..
Geet : good and sleep well!
Maan : naah.. I have to dream..
Geet : besharam kahi ke..
Maan : I dream of you in every way possible and I am never shy about it!
Geet : You better go and take care of Ami!
Maan : ok madam..
Geet smiled, "good night Maan.."
Maan : good night Mishty...
Next day, Geet woke up smiling and blushing. Every time she did something her thoughts ran back to that dream. She smiled to herself like a teenager and hummed her favorite tune in her croaky voice. She blushed when she imagined Maan next to her while in shower and mentally wacked herself. All the day she thought only of Maan. His voice boomed near her ears. She wanted to feel his warmth, hold him close forever and tell him that she loved him more than anything else in the whole world. It was as if there was never any pain or hurt. Her mind danced like a little girl and she gave in surrendering her reality. In the evening she got very conscious while getting ready for the sangeet-cum-mehendi. Pinky couldn't understand why her papaji was still in a rush to get over with all the ceremonies asap and make the wedding possible at the earliest. She secretly doubted that it was because her father still believed that Adi might cancel the marriage once again. Anyways, so the wedding was happening the next day while the previous evening would have a clubbed sangeet and mehendi ceremony. They had to reach the Hayat by 7 and Geet started dressing up at 4. She wore a netted beige colour saree with bright pink sequins work on the border along with a sleeveless pink blouse. She looked at her reflection and coloured thinking about the effect she would have on him. One moment she was extremely happy and the next second her smile faded as she crash landed from her dream world.
Geet (self-thought) : ye me kya krne ja rhi thi!! I'm supposed to be going away from Maan and Ami in two days and here I am dressing up for him!! Tomorrow is the wedding and my flight is early morning day-after tomorrow. I need to leave right after phere and I should be saying good-byes to them atleast without their knowledge. Oh God!! Ami!! How will she do without me?? I can't get close to her today. She should learn to be comfortable with her real family. That's the least I can do for her, he na? And Maan!! Why did he have to say all that yesterday? Is it going to change my mind now? Never!! But it hurts more now! To be away from him knowing how much he loves me..it is like a fish that knows it cannot live without the water but somehow it has to get out of it because the same water suffocates it!! Not that your love suffocates me Maan, but it is too intense and it can be too harsh and I can't take that once again. I hope you and Ami are happy together like you are now!! I'm leaving my life and soul behind in this city once again...babaji what do you have in store for me!!
In the Khurana mansion Annie was in a fuss. She had left Ami with a renowned beutician while getting ready herself. And when she returned back Annie fumed at the sight in front of her.
Annie : Chaya, I told you to do her hair and eyes only. No need ofall these make-up!!
Chaya : But she is a celebkid. Isn't she supposed to be glamorous?
Annie : She is NOT jus some celeb-kid. She is Maan Singh Khurana's daughter and if bhai sees her with all these make up he will kill me. What if she gets any rashes or allergies?
Chaya : ohh..but they ae all high-quality products.
Annie : I don't care. Remove them. I will get her ready myself.
Ami giggled as Annie nervously started redoing her face.
Maan was getting ready in his room. Even after all these years, he still felt nervous, whether Geet would like the way he looked or not. Silly as it might sound but still she had the power to make him feel nervous. He was wearing dark royal blue shervani with light golden border work. Ofcourse the colour made him look dashing as always and thank God, the sling was off from today. Suddenly he sensed some movement at his door and smiled. It had to be Mia, the only person who dared to enter his room without knocking other than Geet. She looked beautiful in her cherry red lehenga and golden blouse. She was struggling to walk properly with the walker and duppatta in her hands. Maan kneeled down to help her. She looked at him curiously.
Ami : Dad, where is your bandage?
Maan smiled and replied, "Its off coz I'm perfectly fine. See!
He moved his arms up and down to show that he was fit. There was a little itching sensation but otherwise he really was fine.
Ami' eyes gleamed with happiness but her face fell immediately.
Maan : kya hua Mia?
Ami : I still have to use this..
She pointed at her walker.
Maan : yes. But that is bcoz your wound is bigger. But you will be fine soon and then we will run in the garden and play!!
Ami : yeyyy!!! You have to catch mumma papa! She is way tooo fast. I always fail. But now you are here. We will be a team!!
Maan looked at Ami dreamily. If only her words became true he wished silently.
Ami waved in front of him, "Cmon papa..fast..we have to see mumma
Maan asked, "are you missing your mumma?"
Ami : oh yess tooo muchh
Maan smiled, "me too.." then suddenly realising something he asked worriedly, "don't you like it in here?"
Ami : I love your house papa. But I want to tell mumma how much fun we are having here. Then she can also join us and we can all have lots of fun everyday!!
Ami beamed at Maan and hugged him.
Maan : ofcourse Mia. I promise you that we will bing your mumma here and be together always!!
Ami broke the hug and looked at him, "pinky promise?"
Maan chuckled, "ha baba pinky promise!!"
And he entwined his little finger with Ami as he promised to himself that he would never break this promise to his Mia.
Everyone was decorating their hands with mehandi. Pinky was happily applying mehendi on her hand as one of her cousins fed her Uncle Chips which Adi managed to smuggle into the Hayat despite the severe ban from Pinky's aunties. She suggested the artist to hide Adi's name like a puzzle so that he would use his extrasharp brain to find himself! One of the ladies asked Geet and then pushed her to the mehendi wali to apply mehendi on her hands. The girl asked her husband's name assuming that Geet was already married. She hesitated for a minute and then said in a faint voice, "Maan". She watched her hand as the lady beautifully hid his name right at the centre of her hand among the petals of a flower.
To anyone it would look like the petals but her eyes could read the words clearly, "Maan." And so did her heart which knew instantly to spot him even in this crowd of the wedding. The old teenage excitement was back as she saw her man making a grand entry looking as handsome as ever holding their little daughter in his arms.
His eyes were running all over the place and she knew it was for her. Her cheeks coloured like the mehendi that was now colouring deep her palms. She quietly got up and slipped away from the crowd. Tonight she only wanted to watch them enjoying from a distance. There was no chance of going near them and hurting them more.
