I always like & comment in each update i read..
but as for as asking long comments, if the update is small or just a filler part or repeating the same thing happened in last two - three update then how the writer can expect long comments, then ofcourse reader will write in just one - or two words, here they should not be blamed
and above all most of writers update after long (say 4-5 mohts) time. in that case reader automatically loose interest in the story, only if the reader is not writer's friend, they comment or totally ignore the story. in that case how writer expect likes & comments.
its not always reader at fault.
is my pov as i am reader..
sorry if i hurt any writer

most of the time writer dont even acknowledge the reader comment or ignre it (it happened lot of time with me) ...
or sometimes they only reply to few reader's comment or their friends reply...it hurts reader's sentiments...so they chose to comment in less words...

Have my own explanation!
I do press like fo every update n comment on the thread of few writers there is a reason
In the very beginning when I joined this forum I thought comments ment ur views on the particular part
On the very beginning with one of our well known writer reply to my comment
I got to know commenting is about all praises. .
So I stopped being genuine!
N am scared to comment on the thread of many writers
Which you will never understand!

N abt the views even non members of the forum visit the thread think about it!

Maybe you are right, may be a couple of writers might only want praises and flattery in terms of comments. But really, I cannot comment on that because I rarely scout threads.

On my threads, as I have always been open; I reiterate that for me, comments are not means to an end. They mean my readers telling me that they are there and what they liked or disliked.
If you are scared to comment on a particular post, then I would say it is the post maker's doing. I don't think a writer should intimidate the readers. and yes, I never will understand because t doesn't scare me to comment. maybe because it is a pseudonym we are all using here.

Part time job, eh?😆
What to say regarding this?

Everyone sees the problem..

I sought a solution..

i had about 70% or more non-commenters on my story and a lot lot of silent readers.

I made my posts MEMBERSONLY.

The first chapter I put on the blog with a password, about 20 of the silent readers posted and asked for access.

I was made to feel so bad about going to the blog, ke kya kahu?

I received vicious PMs in addition to the ones with the standard excuses

I still post some chapters on IF but some will always be on the blog. The only difference now is that I have 1/3 of the readers I used to have but each one posts a comment about the story and is into it.

This offers the writer in me the satisfaction of giving my loyal readers a story they love without quitting

It also makes me feel less used and abused by the readers who are partial; those who will rush to fill quotas and post waiting and pictures for others while ignoring people like me who are not demanding.

The other part about blog access is that I can change passwords when I feel there is a leak and believe me even that has happened.

I work 6 days a week over 12-14 hrs a day and am married and living abroad so there is no facility of servants and drivers etc. Most nights I don't write until after 11 pm.

My joy is being part of Geet forum. I won't let people take that away from me. So I will not allow others to rule me and make me quit. Have been called a bi&$@ for that but hey, whatever works, right?

Sermons? Do we get paid for this stuff😆

I was gonna ask you to print this sermon in a separate topic ..so readers beside your own can have a read and like myself acknowledge the lack of commenting..
You have hit the bulls eye with this one.. its the lack of motivation that writers feel when they read one-liners or mostly nothing..

I have a very simple solution to this which the IF-team needs to take it up, make it mandatory for every member who accesses a chapter to leave a comment after, its quite possible esp if the writer chooses to make the post "members-only" then members who login can easily be made to do so... but hah! its a long method that would probably take ages to implement..that is if they listen in the first place!

The least a person can do is acknowledge that hey! I was here, read your work and this is what I thought.. Bas.. how you relay that is up to you.. simple words..long novels (like myself😆)

I think we need sermon delivers like you to infiltrate the young minds of silent readers😃

Hey, Sorry to butt in, even this post is made by Frosty, but being a reader like you..I just wanted to clarify..
I wanted to know why you are scared to comment? its a genuine question..please do reply.. I am just trying to figure out where you faced a problem that you made feel so.

About writers only acknowledging those comments which are filled with praises, that's a first ..since I have not read much of those, but I can understand where you are coming from..
Lekin kehte hain na ..that for one bad you can't avoid all the good that comes your way ...
You may have encountered some writers who think in that way.. but like you know yourself not all may be like that.. give others a chance ..

And being a reader like yourself, I just want to say that the satisfaction in giving your thoughts on a forum like this is beyond any.. we are lucky as readers and writers are even more lucky so because when you read a book, how likely will it be that you will post a letter with your thoughts on it to the author.. but here its direct contact.. A live thread where writers are given our opinions and thoughts sometimes which even turn the face of the stories!!

Hope to continue this conversation with you😳😃

Feasible solution Avi, apt too.
Let them try and then do the talking😆

Sermons, yeah well what else would I call it? I mean who better than you would know that i rarely come out of hiding🤪
So it was only apt to call it a sermon and since my readers and buddies here know I am a devil's atma in angel or vice versa; it was Saint Frosty😆

If we'd get paid here, trust me writing wouldn't have been this fun. I mean, when you write without incentive it is more honest. At least for me😉
