Chapter Two
The world spun around her as her body fell against the teak door, her eyes closing down with the effect of being tired or alcohol - she couldn't fathom.
She fumbled with her purse before taking her flat keys out.
As she fiddled with the keys, she remembered the evening's happenings, involuntarily making her hands fidget with the keys aggressively until her gaze fell on her hands, which stopped her movements.
Her skin glowed in the moonlit night, the lone silver bracelet with Swarovski crystals around her wrists glinting.
She fisted them as she thought just how many times she had felt male hands linger for a moment more than necessary when a handshake was exchanged. The groping hands, the accidental touches, the suggestive remarks aren't something she was new to.
She was used to them all, and though she never showed she cared two hoots about any of them, it vexed her. Every single time. And though she might show herself to be immune and blind to the advances, she took it as a challenge and although subtly provoked men by showing her indifference, by showing that the power play was indeed in her advantage.
It did push her to edge when the hideous old bas***d poured a drink for her deliberately making it stronger over her tolerance. Knowing his ugly intentions didn't make her deny the drink gracefully. She instead took it with a smile, which he could have as well interpreted as flirty.
She knocked the glass down, and entertained him for fifteen more minutes before taking her car to ride back home.
Whoever might have started the game, she liked to play in her way. She was not stupid enough to stay there for longer and let the drink kick in anyway.
If there was something that had made the night all worth was the surprise in his face, to see her withstand the drink, and not succumb to his game.
As she struggled with her keys some more had she felt it. A presence, and even in the state she was in, she turned rigid, her entire body going defensive.
"Ma'am" the voice was not something she remembered, and as she faced the person, the first thing she saw was a set of eyes which looked concerned.
"May I be of any help?"
"No thank you" she said as she turned back and inserted the keys and fiddled with it, wondering why wouldn't the damned lock budge and let her in.
She stumbled and felt him steady her by her shoulders and her reaction was instantaneous.
She pushed his hands away, further pushing herself away from him, her back against her door. A light flickered, revealing his features clearly...
His face looked familiar, and it took a moment before it clicked. He was the same person she saw that evening at the coffee shop...
"I was trying to help, despite of your beliefs" he said, and for some reason she felt the voice to be contained.
If she were sober, perhaps she wouldn't have said what she said next.
"If this is for sex, then it isn't working"
She heard him pause for a beat before laughing.
"Though this might look unbelievable to you, it isn't for sex. I just thought you would use some help"
"Help for?" she asked something pounding in her head, making her lose her concentration "Getting me out of my clothes?"
He smiled and with a swift move, he was at the door, and keyed in, opening the door, catching her off guard, making her lose her balance, as she was resting her weight over the door, and leaning by it.
He caught her before she fell, his arms going round her waist.
The moonlight accentuated her delicate features, her hair that was tied in a bun now coming lose, with few tendrils out of it already. Her eyes that never left his were filled with just one emotion and it was suspicion, something he wasn't sure if he wanted to see in them.
"You distrust very much Geet" he whispered now, picking her up in his arms, and surprisingly she didn't fight him.
"I am given enough reasons for that"
Something said it wasn't directed just at him.
Walking to the room to the right, which as he guessed turned out to be her bedroom, he put her on the bed pulling away.
She waited for his next move, for which he just smiled and covered her with sheets before walking out of the room, the door closing behind him with a click.
The remote logic in her head reasoned her not to sleep, as there was a stranger in her flat, just on the other side of the door, but the remote voice was drowned moments later as she was too much tired and drugged to think reasonably, and before she knew her eyes drooped, and she fell asleep.
