I hope you can hear me cause I remember it clearly; the day you slipped away; was the day I found it won't be the same...
- Slipped Away
Prologue
She wore that black dress that Catalina had displayed early in the morning, her emotions in various swings.
"Come on", Catalina whispered linking her arm with her best friend.
Geet had a blank expression as she stared at the coffin that was lowered on the ground.
"Annabelle Martha Hammington, a Lady, a wife, and most importantly a mother...in the 25 years Belle and I were together..." her father started as she listened intently hearing his words of love for her mother. Fresh tears formed and she let them slipped. She could not believe that her beautiful mother was dead. She was sad as she grieved. It was painful but the doctor had predicted it. She sighed as she blew her nose.
"Are you okay?" Catalina asked.
She did not reply. She nodded and walked to her father. She clasped his large hands tightly as she cried. Her father patted her back and whispered "do you miss her?"
She nodded. She could not form words. She watched as the guests talked quietly to them. That was it, just them; her father and her. They did not know what it felt losing a parent at sixteen, their sorry' meant nothing.
"Daddy" her innocent voice broke Carl Hammington's thoughts.
"Yes, Geet" he said softly.
"Will you remarry?"
Her father's head snapped and he turned to face him. He could see fear if her step mother would not like her, if she would have step siblings.
"No, I promise I won't" Carl vowed.
She nodded as her father hugged her.
"Your Aunt, Rosalinda will come to teach you the etiquette of how to behave like a lady; just like your mother" her father announced quietly.
"Do you want to go home?"
She nodded and saw Catalina approaching her. The black limousine parked in front of the cemetery and the father and the daughter stepped in.
