Part 11

Geet was so shocked she still did not believe someone actually slapped her. She had always been the darling daughter of her family. Never had anyone raised hands on her in spite of her usual naughtiness.

Maan did not shout. He just stated very coldly," sam, don't ever repeat this. Don't make me get mean. You know I can be mean if I want to. Now I want you to apologize to this girl right now in front of everyone or else you will see the worse of Maan Singh Khurana."

Geet looked on as she saw a new Maan. He sounded so dangerous when he hissed his response to sam. Sam watched him for few minutes before she turned to geet saying," hey girl! Sorry about that but don't ever repeat what you did."

Before geet could answer Maan stated," don't piss me off anymore samaira. Now apologize properly to the lady here giving her proper respect she deserves."

His voice grew softer towards the end but he never stopped giving mean looks to samaira.

Sam said geet," I am sorry for whatever I did. I should not have done that."

Geet who was a silent witness to all this spoke out finally," Ma'am, I don't have any intentions of taking away what is yours. But if he is truly yours why are you so insecure even with a stranger? I suggest first try to know if he is truly yours. Now, I will take my leave as I have got some real work other than coming between lover's tiff."

She turned to Maan and for a second Maan felt he saw a new geet. She said in a neutral voice," thank you sir for protesting on behalf of me. But don't fight with your girlfriend for me. And do warn her to stay away from me cause I don't really have habit of taking my insult lying low."

She turned to go away when she stopped and looked back to say," and ma'am , from next time apologize only if you feel like, not because someone asked you to. Apology should come from heart else it doesn't have any meaning."

The group of seniors who had sent geet to sam hooted and applauded as soon as her words finished. One of them came forwarded his hands and said," hi, am dev khanna. That was bloody awesome. Nobody had ever showed her her real place other than you. What say? Friends? I will be happy to be a friend of yours."

Geet smiled for the first time after the entire fiasco and shook her hand as she spoke in her usual soft voice," geet. Geet handa."

Soon she was surrounded by the group who became friends for life. Their group consisted of dev, geet, pinky, yash, meera and Rahul. Geet, pinky and Rahul were first years while others were all second year students.

Maan watched her smile and chat. He smiled softly watching his geet come back to her true self. The way geet spoke to him made him shudder for a moment that maybe geet will be lost with the pain he gave her. But he knew he was not worth it and he was glad geet thought so too.

He walked away alone. Well he was always the solitary one. How dare he think he will get a companion? But meeting and knowing geet had made him dare to dream of a happy life away from the meanness and fake charade of his world….a life where he will have a family who will care for his emotional needs rather than financial ones ………a friend who will be with him for his true self and not for his status and money and a partner who will understand him and love him not his credit cards and bank balance……but that was too much to ask……his world does not allow him these luxuries………..that's why he does not want geet to be with him and loose herself in the process……….

Geet on the other hand settled well in college after the initial fiasco….she has a bunch of cool friends who are always doing some sort of masti………..she had come to know that Maan is here to do his architecture which is a five year course and he is presently in his third year. Samaira is doing a course in interior decoration. Since geet is in computer engineering her classes are held in IT block which is quite far from the architectural block where Maan and Sam's classes are held. This was a boon for geet as she did not have to witness Maan with another girl……………

Though to world geet had showed that her fiasco with sam had no effect in her but she had been broken inside. Her mind just asked one question…………did she not deserve the truth from Maan at the very least? She might have confessed her love but could he not at least tell her that he belonged to someone else, that geet has no place in his life cause his life was filled with HER…………

No matter what her mind said her heart always said only one thing," he cares for you geet. What you saw in his eyes at the beach was truth. The moments you shared were truth. He can lie, the world can lie but his eyes can never lie geet. Have faith………..if you have the courage to love him have the courage to have faith in your love as well…………"

In the fight of her mind and her heart she was always left emotionally drained. She decided to visit the place that always gave her peace….RK beach………

She had reached the beach at the twilight. The beach was filled with people………..some rich, some poor…….somewhere a father is teaching his child to make sand castles, somewhere a mother is stopping her daughter from going too far from the shore, somewhere a group of friends are enjoying the sunset throwing water on each other while somewhere two lovers are stealing a sunset in their memories……..a familiar warmth spread in Geet's heart and she realized that love actually exists around us, all we have to do is take the leap of faith………….

"Feeling better?"

Geet turned to find dev standing beside her. She smiled genuinely as she replied, " yep. What are you doing here?"

" Nothing much. Just making sure my friend is fine, just being a friend to her"

" That's really sweet of you dev. But what makes you feel I am not okay?"

" Your smile is missing geet. "

" What, I smile all the time. I enjoy each moment of my college life."

" I am not talking about the fake smile you wear on your face fooling the world. I am talking about the genuine smile, the one that can make anyone feel that life is still worth fighting for."

Geet looked down blushing a bit with the unexpected compliment. To avoid the awkwardness from spreading she asked, " Oh dev!! You are being poetic. I hope you are not in love with me?"

" You are a person anybody can fall in love with geet. But these words are not mine geet and nor are the feelings associated with the words."

" What do you mean dev?"

"I want to tell you some truths geet. Will you listen fully before deciding? "

" You are giving me some creepy feeling dev. Tell me, I will try to keep an open mind."

" I will hope for the best geet but I don't want to hide things anymore. The ragging day was not the first time I saw you geet. We did not meet but I did learn about you, a lot about you from someone else……..from someone I care about…"

" I am not getting anything you are saying dev. You are freaking me out."

" I will tell you from the beginning geet. First time I came to know about you two years back. That was about how cute you are, and how much you love butterscotch ice creams."

" What? But I didn't even know you that time. I met you just few months back."

" Yes."

" Then how come you know about me 2 years back?"

" But you met someone else geet, someone who had helped you here, in vizag and had even given you an ice-cream."

Geet could feel the chillness creeping in her soul as she remembered the crazy night years back when she had met Maan………but she had promised dev to hear him out and she will do that………..

" Maan bhaiya had Skyped me that night itself telling all about you geet. He was so happy that night. I had never seen him so happy in years. He almost looked like the teenager he really was. And then the thing continued. I know all about the sunrise from train, the morning puja in some temple or the boat ride back. You know geet, I had never seen him so happy as I saw when he used to recount all the moments with you. He had even got a pic of yours which he showed me. You with closed eyes enjoying the morning breeze and walking bare footed……."

Geet was trying hard to grasp all the information she was receiving. A familiar warmth spread inside her as she felt that those moments were cherished by Maan as well if he felt it important enough to share with his brother. She did not realize she was crying until she felt dev wiping off her tears….

" He cares a lot about you geet. I have always known you from his words geet and I feel the reverence for you in his voice whenever he speaks about you."

" You and Maan are brothers."

" Cousins. My bua ji is Maan bhaiyas mother. Among all our cousins Maan bhaiya and me have always been close maybe due to the fact that we both are almost of same age or that we both hate the fake world of ours equally."

" Fake world??"

" There are some drawbacks of being rich geet. And the pressure had always been there on Maan bhaiya to be the perfect heir of the khurana enterprise. He had too many expectations burdened on him right from his childhood. He had been a bright student always yet that was not his achievement but his duty. He was good at everything yet all those were what he was supposed to be. His entire childhood was gone trying to walk in the footsteps of his ancestors. Whatever good he did was never appreciated because that was what he was supposed to be yet a single mistake of maybe being late for breakfast by a minute was punished severely so that it was never repeated. He had lost his entire childhood and teenage being the perfect hire to the family, the oldest son of the khuranas."

" why are you telling me all of this dev?". Geet asked even as her eyes watered thinking why Maan had always looked so wary and afraid of wishing and dreaming.

" Because Maan bhaiya needs you geet. Even though he had lost himself in the process of being the heir he had always protected me and Vicky, his younger brother. He had given us the love and care he never received. He had let us have a normal childhood protecting us. For us, if Maan bhaiya is there we are safe. He had been both a brother and father to us. Even here, nobody knows I am the heir to khanna and sons except Maan bhaiya and now you. I can enjoy my college life like any other student while he even ruined his college life beneath his celebrity status. Yet I have never in my life heard him complain except once. Everybody knows and seeks The Maan Singh Khurana yet nobody even bothers about Maan."

" When did he complain?"

" When he could not accept your love geet."

When geet looked up with a shocked expression dev said," don't look so shocked geet. I know most bits of your love story…..At first I was little worried if Maan bhaiya is being played. I mean who won't know him? He is always on papers. But then when I met you I realized you love Maan, not Maan Singh khurana. I had seen your eyes searching for a glimpse of him even with the pain he inflicted upon you. I had seen you bear the hurt yet not blaming him once. And that's why I followed you here. You are like the little sister I never had. And there is nothing in this world I can't do for Maan bhaiya. I can't watch two of my favourite person hurting themselves. You both need each other and you both deserve each other geet. Maan bhaiya won't ever say all this but you are the most precious memory of his life and I want you guys to be more than just a memory to each other."

" samaira??"

Dev looked down trying to figure out how to explain. He just said," Samaira is not really a bad person geet. She is just obsessed with Maan bhaiya right from childhood. He has become her aim of life yet I won't say it love geet. True love never seeks, it just gives. I hope she understands that Maan bhaiya can never be hers."

" Why? Maybe he loves her."

" No geet. Maan bhaiya had always been a gentleman yet Maan bhaiya was never hers. He had been yours right the moment you guys met like you had been his."

" How do you know it for sure?"

" Did you ever tell me you love him. I read it in your eyes. Same goes for him. I know you love him. Just try understanding his silence geet because he won't speak his heart out ever. All these years he had practiced to supress his emotions geet and he is damn good at it. So it's up to you to read his silence. I am sure your love is strong enough to break all the walls he had built around him. You are in fight with Maan Singh khurana geet and it won't be easy. But I can assure you he is worth the fight."

Geet smirked. She had already decided to fight even before dev had started to convince her. She very well knew how stubborn that idiot really can be but then she is geet handa, she had never lost and she will never loose. She just said in her mind," Mr. Maan Singh Khurana…….wait and watch, I will make you bend your knees and propose me and that's a promise. You have to believe in dreams and love but most importantly you have to agree that you and me have a future together."
